Doris 1905 is an old school hat shop, whose origins are a part of both a glorious and tragic history. I was just strolling by on New Year's Eve, and the store window display drew me in like some alien spaceship. Walking in was easy.
While the indoor hat display made selection difficult, I kind of knew which hat I wanted. It was a light beige rabbit fur hat with a wide, rakish brim. The style was unmistakably Italian, perhaps worn in Palermo, but never in Knightsbridge. The saleswoman was helpful, but it was New Year's Eve, an hour before closing. I took less than five minutes, impulsively spending 156 Euros.
I'll have to be selective wearing this fedora. It isn't for Salt Lake City, too "out there" and flamboyant. That's met with derision by both the religious and the outdoorsy. This hat is for a better future, which is right around the corner. read more
