Each time we come to the Trade Days Market, we come a day early and eat donuts at The Donut Corner.

It's been several years since I have been here, you see, I live in Hawaii, but have visited this…read moreplace twice, on two separate drives from Houston to Lake Fork. We were hungry for a snack and stopped in. To my surprise, a nice Korean lady greeted us and welcomed us into her shop! Being Asian myself, it was comforting to see that she made a thriving business for herself in Texas. I remember the donuts and kolaches were great! The following year, we stopped by again, and she remembered us! She said we were crazy for visiting Texas in the summer heat when we could be in the perfect weather in Hawaii, LoL! I told her that she should visit Hawaii someday and that there are a lot of Korean people and restaurants here. She said she hopes to visit. Once again her donuts and kolaches were a home run! I would visit this place again, just to say hi to my old friend! Aloha!

This place is overpriced compared to the other donut shop down the street, but it is so convenient…read morefor people staying at the Salt City Inn, that I decided I would give their overpriced breakfast croissant a chance. I mean, maybe its worth $2 more?? After making my purchase, I inquired whether the sign that says "Closed to dining" was still valid. I mean, the sign was behind some stacked chairs, and dining in most places has opened up with the pandemic less of an issue for those of us who are vaccinated. The Asian woman working the counter just kept smiling and saying "yes", but I hadn't phrased it as a yes or no question. I restated it several times, and kept getting "Yes, as the sign says," but she wasn't looking at the sign, so I got the feeling that she couldn't understand much English and this was her stock answer when she didn't know what to say. I took my bacon egg and cheese croissant across the highway and sat at the picnic table at the Van Zandt County Juvenile Department to eat it. I was looking forward to an especially good breakfast--considering what I'd paid for it. Yuk! It was terrible. How can you mess up a bacon egg and cheese croissant??? I looked inside. It was stuffed full of very fatty bacon--not crisp at all. In fact it looked like it was either raw bacon or boiled. I went back across the street with my receipt and told the woman I could not eat the sandwich because the bacon was raw. She gave me my money back but also got very angry and told me to never come back. As I left she continued yelling at me and telling me I was disgusting. So her English is good enough to cuss people out, but not good enough to deliver good customer service. I don't usually write reviews, but in this case I am so appalled by their 1) high prices 2) horrible quality and 3) bad manners, that I thought people should be warned. This place should be boycotted by decent people. They have no right to be in business. If you want breakfast at a donut shop, I recommend instead you go to Grand Saline Donuts, 906 W Garland St, Grand Saline, TX 75140. It is just down the road, right off highway 80. Their prices are better, they let you dine in, and the bacon on their bacon egg and cheese croissants is nice and crispy. The atmosphere there is quite friendly as a group of old farmers dines there every morning and makes a social hour out of it. PS The Grand Saline Donuts is also run by Asians, so this is not about racism. PSS Its too bad there are not negative stars for ratings. This establishment is pathetic.
