The day we scheduled the appraisal, Gary showed up on time and got right to work. I noticed that Gary was not in a hurry to get in and get out and on with his day. He methodically checked every aspect of every room and did a full exterior inspection. Gary concluded his initial visit to my property and told me he would send me the appraisal as soon as he put everything together and wrote his report. A day or two later, Gary called me and asked if he could go back to the property and inspect a bit further in a couple areas. I obliged and really appreciated the fact that it meant enough to him to come back on his time to make sure the accuracy of his report was not compromised, regardless of the time it takes to gather extra information. When I received the appraisal, I was impressed at how detailed it was. It included everything from a full report about the condition of the property, pictures, comps and other notes. Gary went as far as to detail, in his opinion, what updates were needed in order to maximize selling price. All in all, hiring Gary Scott was no doubt a great decision. My personal take on Gary is that he's a really good guy that truly enjoys helping his clients and building long term relationships with them. Also, Gary is very ethically conscious, knowing that his clients privacy and confidentiality is of utmost importance. In the north-eastern region of Oklahoma, the only guy to call for an appraisal is Gary Scott! I waited over an hour and a half to go in and see their Sterling items. The line outside with a…read morewaiting list to get in managed poorly, but inside there was a stupid long line to check out. On top of that the pricing was extraordinarily over the top. When asked if they would discount some of the silver items like all the other things on the regular discount days I was told they answered it depends on the item. I would strongly suggest instead going to eBay for any purchases of value and avoiding these sales. I myself will never attend another one of their sales unless there's something extraordinarily worth me waiting all day and spending a stupid amount more than it's worth. I've been to lots of their sales and I'm always annoyed and disappointed. Not again. Do better!!!

They initially offered $7,000, despite my research showing comparable vehicles in my area valued around $10,500. State Farm rejected my comparables, dismissing them as "inflated," even though their own selections were clearly unreasonable. At the end of August, I reached out to Josh Dorris and officially retained him on September 3, 2025. Josh was exceptionally thorough in explaining the process and outlining the next steps. State Farm appointed an independent appraiser around September 16 or 17, and by September 19, the two appraisers had negotiated a final settlement of $11,750. I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome and the efficiency of the process. From the day I hired Josh to the resolution, it took only 16 days--likely would have been faster had State Farm acted more promptly. Josh was consistently responsive, whether by email or phone, and his professionalism made a frustrating situation much easier to navigate.

I was livid, as I'd put down $5,000 cash and would've lost it all! However, I decided to read my policy, and learned about my right to hire a personal appraiser, so I invoked my rights. I hired Joshua Lee Dorris with Collision Safety Oklahoma, and he went straight to work for me, not putting up with any of their bs! He fought them tooth and nail to get me the most out of my settlement, and he did an absolutely amazing job! He was very communicative, very confident, and very knowledgeable! I'm now walking away with more money than I started with, which to me is deserved since Root put me through so much, and even breached their own contract! If you're ever put in the same position, and your insurance company is trying to mistreat you, I strongly recommend you give him a call! He won't disappoint you, I promise!
