I am not surprised but I also understand sh t happens. I've had orders in the past done wrong and I never complained but today I bought a tostada bowl and I ended up getting RAW CHICKEN.

Stopped in on my way home to grab some fish tacos to go. They were still warm when I sat down to eat, and everything was great. The rice is honestly some of the best I've had from any local taco shop, and the beans were delicious too. The fish was well-seasoned with a nice coating, and the white sauce was super tasty. The hot sauce had the perfect kick for me--spicier than most places, in a good way. I'm excited to come back and try more!

Scrumptious Mexico Cuisine, fast and reasonably priced. Fish tacos have a chipotle tartar sauce that is off the chain. Haven't had a bad experience yet.

Hard plastic found in my carne asada burrito

Don't get me wrong. Donny P's is great. But as I'm eating my burrito I feel something hard in my chew and pull out what appears to be a hard piece of plastic. I can no longer back up DP's whenever a coworker talks about the poor quality with the food as this was the final straw for me Still finished my burrito, but cmon Donny.

A family member hyped Don Panchos up to me, and I couldn't wait to try it. Spoiler Alert: It lived up to the hype! Granted I have only had their Bacon Breakfast Burrito, but it has been delicious the handful of times I have gotten it. My family has tried some other items and have had only nice things to say. One day I will branch out, but right now their burritos have me on lockdown! With shrinkflation these days, you typically get a tiny burrito for $10, but not here! These burritos are CHUNKY and oh so good. Definitely worth it. The staff is extremely friendly as well which makes the whole experience that much better! Every time I visit, I make it my mission to stop here, and you should too! :)

Visited SoCal for a wedding this weekend so as the saying goes, "When in Rome ..." Being so close to the border, we wanted some Mexican food! With our hotel being conveniently located across the street, we decided to try Don Pancho's. The food did not disappoint! Service was friendly and helpful (appreciated the cashier answering our newbie questions like "What's the difference between regular and mini tacos?") Food was delicious and a good portion. Prices were very fair. For 3 of us, we ordered 3 small tacos, 2 regular tacos, an enchilada platter and one horchata, all for about $35 including tip. Minus one star for a faded menu on the building from which you can't read the prices, and for charging a 50 cent "surcharge" with no explanation (I would have asked but didn't notice until later.).

Wife loves the Chicken Chipotle Fries and gets them all the time. Workers are generous and very friendly. Come here if you're nearby and want comfort food. Place is well cleaned and parking always available, fast in and out kind of deal so take your food to the beach! great amount of food for the price, easily feeds 2 people and they never slack on anything

CALIFORNIA BURRITO (Grill line on carne asada)

Don Panchos is one of those places that has not disappointed me once. I hadn't been to Los Panchos in many years. I've been here a few times in the last 3-4 months. Today I had their Cali Burrito (add pico de gallo and extra crispy fries) I think Los Pancho's California Burrito can compete with any in town. I think it's in my top 3 now (2. Lolita's - 1. Crack Taco Shop). Could be #1 too though. I gotta check again. First bite I can taste carne and not 5 layers of folded tortilla. I think their carne asada is nicely marinated before. It has that true carne asada taste to it. You can actually see grill marks on the carne(you can see it in the pic). I don't like food that argues with me. The carne asada does not argue with me at all. Very soft and tender. I ordered the fries extra crispy and they were perfect. I also added pico de gallo. The burrito comes with cheese, guacamole and sour cream. The carne to fry ratio is perfect. They add the right amount of guacamole and sour cream. Every bite is delicious. It was easy to finish the burrito. I felt energized after eating it not sleepy and sluggish. Good amount of meat less tortilla and fries. The salsas at Los Panchos are definitely stars. They have 3 salsas RED, GREEN and HABANERO. The RED salsa is one that has depth and attention to detail. Very diverse. That's the kinda salsa you can use to dip chips in, use for a family carne asada, chilaquiles, chiles rellenos etc. The GREEN salsa is perfect for tacos. It has a lightly sour taste in a good way. It has a nice lime taste, which is perfect with carne asada. The HABANERO always surprises me. I always think it's gonna be too spicy but it isn't. It's cool to taste habanero pepper and not kill my taste buds for the rest of the day. I really enjoyed this salsa. Good service. Exactly what you would expect out of a taco shop that's used to big crowds. They are efficient. The ambiance is very old school. Small parking lot, a few tables outside and a few more inside. chill vibe while you wait for your food. Everyone does a half circle by the windows and just stare at the windows. If you're visiting San Diego, this is a local gem. Mainstream will not tell you about places like this. Highly recommend

This morning we decided on Don Poncho's taco shop for breakfast. We ordered 7 breakfast burritos total. 4 breakfast burritos that came with bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, potatoes & cheese. 3 bacon breakfast burritos (we added beans) that had all of the above minus the other meats. Everyone was more than pleased with the taste and size of the burritos. There is onsite parking and an order window in the front of the building where you order and a window on the right to pick up your food. There is also a small indoor dining room, with the entrance being on the left side around the corner when facing the building, where you order at the window inside. On the right side of the building there is an outdoor seating area that is currently under construction. The staff is always friendly and the place is constantly busy but not too busy to get your food & go quickly. Prices are reasonable and a good value and size. Definitely my favorite taco shop in IB.

We have been going to this place when it was Las Ponchos in the 70s and 80s till early 90s when it changed to Don Ponchos. Back in the 70s you got 6 rolled tacos for a dollar. We miss those days. We left IB in the early 90s but every time we visit including the 2 weeks we've been here now for a college graduation, we've gone there three times and it's 25 minutes away from us. We get our food, eat it in the car, and then we go out the strand through Coronado and over the bridge back to the RV park we are staying. This place does not get the love it deserves. The food is always hot, fresh, and the workers are very, very nice. read more

Can't believe how many people call this place "Don Poncho's." I love correcting them. BUT ANYWAYS..... Food is always great, even as breakfast the next morning. Those that were eating their food there was enjoying the outdoor dining. My son and I enjoyed socializing with a few locals, some were new to the area (where I was born and raised). This place is ALWAYS a must visit. read more

I got a carne asada burrito. It was not the biggest nor had the most ingredients, but it was already sinfully juicy and tasty with just the steak, guacamole, pico de gallo, and salsa. You could say that, with flavor, sometimes less is more. The smaller size allowed the wrap to leverage the umami without needing rice or beans as much. Also, these are cheaper than most burritos I've had recently, so you're not really losing money. Some burritos in town are kinda....huge anyways, and I say that as someone who can eat three of these if I want to. A 3.7 average is somewhat low for Yelp, but I already had a co-worker rave about this place, and I am cursed to drive by it on my way home from work. And reviews are often the victim of what I would consider a form of volunteer bias. People with a 3 star experience simply aren't motivated to write reviews. I can't say this is as impressive as Chula Tacos, but there is something about the vibe that makes me want to give it a higher rating. There definitely seems to be locals that habitually come here for lunch or on their way home from work. That must count for something. read more

Ordered burritos for my broker caravan in IB. Great value and flavors. Known for the machacha breakfast burrito- the agents loved them and most just took half (Don Panchos precut for us). The bean and cheese breakfast burrito was great and I wish we had more leftovers!! read more

Very good burritos!! I highly recommend trying the carne asada and the shredded beef burritos. The nachos with jalapeños were very jalapeño loaded but still very good! Good pricing and very generous portions. The service was super quick and very nice! It is a takeout oriented location with order and pick up windows and some limited outdoor seating. Order the z3 pack tacos with carne asada. Ordered two without onions and one without. The packaged them separately which was very nice. The hot sauce is really good have a good amount of spice. The meat was melt in your mouth good and had amazing seasoning. The service was quick. It is a walk up taco stand. I didn't like not seeing prices but otherwise no issues. read more

California burrito was so small, TikTok over hyped this place. Barely had any meat mostly fries I don't see any sour cream, cheese or guacamole. Save your time and money this is giving stingy. And why is there beans in my carne asada fries ? read more

I ordered a shrimp burrito. The burrito itself was quite large but inside it was all rice and 6-7 small shrimp. It was basically a rice burrito. I hadn't been in several years thought I would give it another try. Never again. read more

Love this place, but they have gotten very stingy now about they're hot sauce. Used to get the table side hot sauce before the hoax, what happened. You get a big old plate of carnitas for fifteen dollars and they give you two ounces of hot sauce, which there's enough for 2 tacos. Now they want 25 cents, each. For more hot sauce, which is a ripoff! Book! read more

We've been going to Dan Poncho's for the last eight years always loving it but unfortunately, the last two times we went we got our usually California burritos both times first time we both ended up with food poisoning. We thought it was strange maybe some odd thing then we just ordered same thing again again and ended up again with food poisoning not sure what's going on with their location, but I haven't noticed with all the changes. There's a lot of complaints from their staff to food. Hope it gets fixed. I'll be taking a break from them. read more

Great food. Quick and economically priced. The only thing that sucks about this place is that they are so cheap about giving out the delicious salsa. If you ask politely for a certain amount (the salsa are tiny) they just throw a few in and close the bag. Always check and call them out-especially if you tip. read more

Very good taco shop. We began eating here regularly a few months ago, and haven't been disappointed once. You can knock the sour cream-cut guac, but it pairs well with their food; and is always fresh. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Don Panchos is always good. read more

I was curious to try Don Pancho's because of some shoutouts the place got on social media. I got a California burrito and found it strange that it doesn't automatically come with guacamole and you have to ask for it. The carne asada was seasoned well but overall, the burrito was just okay, not memorable. Sauces were a bit watered down and lacking some flavor in my opinion read more

Updated Review: 3 Stars. Everything is the same except their phone service sucks. They put us on hold then never came back. We tried to call back 5+ times and were given a busy sound. Old Review: The food here is delicious. They always do a great job making my meals here. The mini street tacos are always a good get, as well as the California burrito and carnitas burrito. I think solely based on the food it's a must try to go here. The staff here is always friendly, helpful and kind. I've never had a rude encounter here. Food comes out fast and it's all good vibes here from the people. The dining area could use work. The tables are always dirty. You can usually find a table to eat at, but if it's really busy (which it really does get busy during lunch time) you may have trouble getting a table. The trash cans are frequently overflowing. P.S. I used to love coming here. It was my go to especially after being at the beach all day. I stopped last night about 6 pm after being at Coronado. I ordered a taco salad, with carna asada, and ate it there. The shell is fried and it tastes like it was cooked in bad grease. So I didn't finish it, and just ate the inside. I left about 6:45 headed home. I live 10 minutes away, by the time I got home I was throwing up. Been throwing up off and on all night and woke up still nauseous and feeling icky. This was definitely food poisoning at its finest. Sorry I won't be coming back. read more

Howdy, folks! Captain 619, the cowboy surfer, is back with a fresh take on Don Panchos Taco Shop. Now, let me tell ya, this place used to be my go-to spot for many moons, especially when me and my lady had a hankering for some tasty grub. But lately, things have taken a tumble down the canyon, and even my iron gut is having a tough time keeping their food from turning into a raging fire inside me. It's a real bummer, y'all. Not only that, but the cleanliness of this joint leaves much to be desired. It ain't exactly the spick and span saloon you'd hope for. And let's talk about the quality of their vittles. It's gone downhill faster than a tumbleweed in a sandstorm. It pains me to say it, but I reckon this ol' spot only deserves a measly two stars from this cowboy surfer. But hold on tight, 'cause there's more to this tale. Many a time, I've forked over my hard-earned cash for extra fixin's to be added to my order. But more often than not, eight out of ten times, they plumb forget to include 'em. Can you believe it? It's like trying to rope a wild stallion, I tell ya! Just today, I paid extra for some good ol' cheese on my burrito. And guess what? Despite reminding 'em three times about past mishaps, they went ahead and left out the cheese once again. To add insult to injury, they had the audacity to charge me $1.49 for the missing cheese, along with a sneaky 50 cent surcharge. Now, that ain't no way to treat a loyal cowboy surfer, I reckon. So, my friends, it's with a heavy heart that I have to give Don Panchos Taco Shop a disappointing two stars. Original name: Los Panchos. Owner just changed Los to Don. Same owner. Same Food, Los Panchos was like one of the original taco shops. they have been around since the 70s. now there are taco shops trying to be like los panchos on every damn corner. los panchos is the best, has been the best, and will continue to be the best. they have the freshest food and are very clean. i love the california burrito (carne asada, cheese, sour cream, and french fries). i also love the carne asada fries. damn i'm getting hungry. on days when i dont feel like eating a lot i get two shredded beef tacos or 3 rolled tacos with the works (sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and salsa). read more
