Our host used to be a sommelier in Paris and had extensive knowledge of wines and food pairings and great vintages.......he knew his stuff We purchased 2 cases of a mixture of everything we tried and let me tell you it could not have been easier. By shipping to the US, not only was shipping free of charge but we also got a 20% VAT price reduction. I did not know what to expect, but so glad we did it!! I sure agree now, that this is the #1 thing to do in Beaune!! A passionate, knowledgeable, and welcoming husband and wife team introduces you to Burgundy wine, about the region, how to read wine labels, "how to taste Burgundy wines", and food paring. The blind tasting was super fun!! It was the most interesting, educational and fun, eye-opening experience. This is not your typical "wine tasting." I recommend you do this first (when you arrive in Burgundy). The knowledge you'll gain from this tasting experience will benefit the rest of your wine trip in Beaune and Burgundy. We bought a few bottles and they waived the tasting fees, but I believe its only about $10-15, for 3-hour class. (For the value, that's a super bargain!). Reservation is highly recommended. I believe the only way to make a reservation is to call them directly. They speak English so it was super easy and hassle-free to make an appointment by phone.

Although we wish we were, we don't know a whole lot about wine, but we do enjoy tasting to find a favorite and learning more about how to taste. Just buy a tasting package at the counter. You have your choice of 7 wines for 11 euros & a souvenir metal tasting cup or 7 wines + the grand cru wines for 15 euros & a souvenir wine glass. We got 1 of each. Head down into the 13th century caves below and read through the tasting notes and info about each wine. It started with reds, went to white, and ended with the grand cru fancy cooler that a store associate will help you with scanning your "badge." You can pick up a wine carrier to the wines you'd like to buy along the way or just wait until the end for the store. They also go through if you want to ship an order home too. Everyone was very friendly. We ended up loving one of the whites, which surprised us. Stowed it in the luggage and can't wait to break it open for a special occassion!

RN74 opened soon after and what better place to try another Meursault but at a place that is ALL about Burgundy? Perusing their vast list I happened on upon the 2005 Chateau de Puligny Montrachet. Everyone at the table raved about the wine. This was a game changer. So much so that I've been obsessed with this wine. I've since found it at the Fifth Floor, Aziza and a handful of other places. The problem with vintage wine is, it's a scarce commodity. As I seek it out it gets harder and harder to find and some point it will no longer exist and I will be sad. However I have the Domaine du Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet to make me a believer in white wine. It's been a huge revelation.

They had bottles on the tour dating back to the 80s. What I would give to have one of those bottles tonight! They had a tasting part to the tour and there was another group of Americans there as well. It was as if the two guys had been drinking a while and were tipsy and mocking us. Other than that bit of rudeness, it was great. I would have loved to have bought some wine but it was incredibly expensive to ship and the dollar to euro was just silly off balance. It would have been a fortune to send it home.
