The walls are lined with hundreds of wine selections from the best of Portugal and I have never seen a wine menu as complete. Every region is listed with all the offerings. The food menu is not huge but more than adequate for everyone to find something to enjoy. We ate extremely well (pork and octopus dishes) as servings were large and the price was low. I just love this restaurant, and can't wait to visit again.

Upon arrival we weren't sure if we'd get a table since we didn't have a reservation, but the place wasn't too busy and they sat us right away. At first glance we weren't impressed, but once the food came out we were in shock -- it was phenomenal. I ordered the octopus and not only was the portion size humongous, it was definitely one of the best octopus dishes I've ever eaten. The large salad we got to share was also enormous and delicious, and my partners grilled prawns were equally tasty. Service was standard, waitress was very kind. The prices were reasonable and likely a great deal considering the serving size. This place my our trip to the region of Portugal and if I ever come back, I'll definitely make a reservation in advance and come by.

Restaurant O Painel is one of the great Português restaurant. The price for the food is reasonable. The restaurant is busy. I feel like eat like the local. Many residents enjoy a good meal here. We started with Caldo Verde a local traditional green broth. The green we think is make from shredded kale leaves. It is delicious. Our main dish is Mar E Terra de Novilho - surf and turf with veal. It come with four tiger prawn and piece of veal in garlic sauce. This is the dish I recommend. We also got the Pratinho de Iscas Grelhadas - Traditional grilled pork liver. Very good mixed of liver in stir fry grilled. The local beer we have Bohemia Original. It is a dark beer. It is between stout and white beer.

Our travel package included dinner, but our scheduled restaurant for the night was closed for family holiday. We got a voucher for this restaurant and are very grateful! Service was amazing, our server spoke English very well and helped us with translation of the menu. Google translation made some funny mistakes ( "sawdust" for crushed cookie dessert) as an example. Everything was wonderful. We had a local sparking white wine, grilled salmon and grilled chicken. A gem in the town of Luso, glad to have been able to visit it and the beautiful architecture here.

As you walk to your right, you see a massive fresh fish lined up on ice, waiting for an owner to claim them. I ordered the Tiger prawns in garlic, not the best. It's in a red sauce with a mild fishy taste but once added some fresh lemon juice, it helped mask the fishy taste; all in all, it wasn't my favorite. The grouper was unbelievably delicious, with beautiful grill marks on both sides of the fish. A bowl of olives to start with cold bread with a side of cold butter. Everyone knows I'm a warm bread and butter girl! The grouper accompanied a soupy rice dish, and it was delicious. All in all, this place was lovely; the food was mediocre. Hopefully, next time, we'll try something else.

We had the dourado and the linguado. Both were cooked nicely and served with a nice side dish of steamed veggies (collards, cabbage and carrots - quite tasty) and potatoes. Of course, you have to drink wine in Portugal, so we also had a very good white wine from the Douro region. We finished with some really delicious desserts ( chocolate mousse pie and a caramel creme torte - layers of wafer-thin cake with a caramel cream filling) and coffee. It was all very good, and the price was appropriate for the quality of the food, drink, and service. I would have given this place 5 stars if it had been the first place I had dined at in Aveiro, but the night before we had better food for substantially less. You won't go wrong with this place, but you could do better.
