I have to give this IGA a full five stars! We found this while driving to see if we could get a few…read moreneeded items locally instead of running into Gainesville to one of the big chain stores. It was refreshing to walk into a small town shop that is not run by global corporate giants who have never heard of the town or met the people who call it home. It reminded me of my childhood of going to the local grocer or hardware store. They do have a decent selection of items from produce to meat, and all of the dry goods you may need, but as a small independent grocer, the selection is not as large as your chain stores. We were able to find everything we wanted and needed. The cost per item was higher than other retailers as to be expected since they cannot purchase in the quantity the big box people do. But, what I spent extra at this IGA was easily saved in fuel costs of making the drive to Gainesville. We were greeted when we walked inside the door and every staff member we met was friendly and helpful during our shopping trip. If we lived locally, I could see us making this a stop for those small shopping trips or one-off needs and visiting frequently. When in the area and finding ourselves in need of forgotten items, we will be returning.

But we also come to find that special gift or soda or hot/spicy sauce and let's not forget the multitude of jarred pickles and chutney and fruit preserves and best of all the half sliced Georgia peaches. We did not order from the sandwich shop this time, but we know they are great. Tomato House labeled products are a must to bring home. We are again very happy to stop and shop at the Tomato House.

They have now developed and evolved a lot especially with the bathrooms and seating around the area where they serve the ice creams. I'm so glad that I get to visit this place to have some fantastic ice cream experience out in the farms overlooking the green pastures and cows grazing (sometimes). They do close relatively early at around 5:30 PM but that being said, they have some excellent staffs who are courteous, quick and kind enough while they take orders. They run of out the week's special so quickly so try to be there as early as possible. The lines can go up to the parking lot during busy weekends especially on Saturday's and Sunday's late afternoon. So plan accordingly. They are strict on timings; literally saw an elderly senior couple driving in desperately to try their ice cream 3-4 minutes past the closing time and they were denied service. While I truly understand their pain I feel the staffs had every right to deny service beyond their closing time. So just repeating myself, plan accordingly and visit. If you are reaching at 5:31 PM as per Google Maps, then simply stop driving and visit on another day. I haven't tried their milkshakes, but would definitely recommend their ice creams.
