I picked up two single pack NY Strip Steaks to grill while traveling/camping. I don't know where they source their beef but both of these steaks tasted so good. A taste I thought was long lost buying meat in large chain stores where I live. I would have rated this a 5 but could not not purchase Clorox spray. But it is understandable this smaller store may not stock everything, or perhaps run out of items at times. I will definitely be stopping here from now on.

The location is easy to find, right off the main highway, and the parking lot had plenty of space. Inside, the store is pretty standard for a Walmart Supercenter. They had a solid range of products--groceries, clothes, electronics, even an auto center and pharmacy. It's definitely a one-stop shop, which came in handy. That said, some areas looked understocked, especially in the produce section. We also noticed a few expired items on the shelves, which was a bit frustrating. The staff we interacted with were friendly enough. One associate helped us find some dog food and even offered a suggestion for a nearby place to eat. But when we needed assistance at checkout, it took a while to get someone to the register. It seemed like they were short-staffed or maybe just not well organized. All in all, it was a mixed bag. You'll probably find what you need, but don't expect top-tier service or perfectly stocked shelves. For a small town, it gets the job done--but with some room for improvement. 3 stars.

If you hapened to be on highway 412, halfway between Clayton and Springer, NM you must stop at the mercantile to refuel your car and your tummy. Cody and Victoria Price own it. Amazing generous smoked brisket sandwich, comes with chips, yummy pickle and onions!!!! It was so good we forgot to take a photo, we ate it fast. Their fried pies are legendary around there. Cody told us they sometimes run out by 1:00 pm.

I don't know if the high prices are due to the "trapped" population. This store is consistent and is a good place to stop to pick up a couple things if you come in off the highway. Its kind of weird though with carpeting that give people static shocks. I saw one guy doing self checkout and he got such a loud crack of static that the checkout wand went flying out of his hand and landed 30 feet away, luckily it did not strike anyone. NM has the highest percentage of people on snap, and the prices here are high because it is the only grocery in this town
