This tiny kiosk in Hidalgo Street in the Quiapo district of Manila calls itself Doll Shoes, but I don't think it's the registered name. In fact, I don't think it's registered at all.
This is one of those countless stores that sell cheap goods which has plenty of buyers. I have no idea if shoes that look like they were meant for dolls is the fad nowadays. It seems to be. All of the shoes here go for P150, which is probably fair. What do I know about ladies' shoes, anyway? They are supposedly made in Marikina, which remains the shoe capital of the Philippines.
Luckily for me, the store also has a decent collection of caps, which I like to collect.
I asked the guy handling the store how business was these days. He said there were many buyers, women of all ages.
If a P150 pair of shoes can last a year or so, I suppose that's good enough. After all, you usually get what you pay for. I just have to wonder why there are no kiosks selling inexpensive men's shoes in this area. There are a few in nearby Sta Cruz though. read more
