I have known- and admired-Roberto Murgia's desserts for years and always wished to taste some of his creations.
Roberto incorporates traditional Sardinian, hard-to find flavors and his desserts and pastries are made following the ancient Sardinian traditions. One could say that he is trying to save a world that his about to disappear.
Many of his pastries are made with sa pompia, which is a Citrus hybrid cultivated for its edible fruit that can only be found in some areas of Sardinia.
This past Christmas I was on vacation on the island and drove to Alghero to pay a visit to his shop and try some of his panettone.
I was not disappointed and meeting him in person was one of the highlights of my trip.
I ended up purchasing several panettones to give as gifts to family and friends and they were all well received.
Months later, I still get compliments on how delicious they were.
We tried his famous Panspinoso (panettone made with artichokes, candied mandarin, honey, among others) and it was scrumptious!
