My 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with just under 60,000 miles on it dropped into "limp" mode driving up…read morethe Fairholme hill on my way home to Forks. I had to drive it home in 2nd gear. When I started it the next day, it no longer went into limp mode. I crossed my fingers, hoping it had "fixed itself," but a few days later it happened again. I called Tranco and talked to Mitch. He explained that "limp" mode can be caused by many things, but gave me a few things to look for. He also explained how to check the transmission fluid level, since the van doesn't come provided with a dipstick. He suggested that I take the van to a local garage so that they could put it on a scanner to make sure that the problem was transmission-related. I took his advice. The problem was transmission related, but it wasn't always there. It would drive fine one day, then go to "limp" mode the next. I called back to Tranco and talked to Brian. He explained that it's difficult to diagnose an intermittent problem. I explained that I couldn't trust driving the van anymore. He checked for technical service bulletins. He saw that there was an available control module update, but the Dodge dealer would have to do it. When I told him how far away I lived, and asked if he could help me get it fixed, he agreed to let me leave the van long enough for them to drive it enough to diagnose and repair it. So I dropped it off for a couple of weeks. He made the appointment at the dealer and got the update done. The module update added diagnostic capability. That, combined with driving the van like it was his own when he had a reason to go somewhere, enabled him to diagnose the problem with confidence. One of the clutches in the transmission was sloppy -- basically worn out. Brian clearly explained how he'd come to the conclusions that he had, and clearly described what they would do to make sure that the problem was properly fixed. My background includes having run my own garage for 26 years, and having been an ASE-certified master mechanic. Everything Brian said to me made sense. I told him to go ahead and rebuild the transmission. The price was reasonable, especially considering the good service they had already provided to me. We got the van back three months ago. I'm pleased to say that the transmission performs astoundingly well. It's better now that it was when we bought it. The shift points are so smooth that they're barely detectable. It drives like a different vehicle. I've fixed and replaced a lot of Dodge van transmissions in my life, but none of them drove as well as the one that Tranco built for me. Their rebuilder is a master builder. Their service is topnotch.

I'm from out of town and broke down on my way into PA due to a shop back at home doing a bad job…read morewith a clutch install. I first went to a different shop in PA which sent me here because they thought the whole transmission was bad (I was skeptical of this because to me it really felt like the clutch was slipping, but I figured a transmission place would still be able to work on a clutch, whereas a regular shop might not be able to do transmission work if that was actually the problem). Bayview could have taken advantage of me because they knew I was stuck out of town and had a 2-3 week lead time for most work. They also could have told me that it was the transmission and charged a lot for fixing that. However, they agreed that it was just the clutch and got me in and out with a new clutch in under 2 days. Being a city slicker, I also ended up actually saving money overall, since labor charges are relatively low here compared to in Seattle. The new clutch felt great from the start (unlike the bad one that grated and crunched in 1 and R from the beginning, which the installers refused to acknowledge, despite the grating and crunching continuing for almost 2 years) and has been performing as expected since. If I ever needed a transmission rebuild that wasn't an emergency situation, I might honestly consider coming out here for the work and making a trip out of it. Also, the desk people were super nice!

It was not conducive to my desire to purchase. I thought to ask for a female sales associate at Wilder Honda. I will pay 40% more for a higher class car there with a comfortable sales person. An old saying in sales is: God gave you two ears and one mouth; it's best to use them in that ratio. On the plus side, he fetched the car so that I would not have to walk to it. They did not have the kind of vehicle I was looking for, but it is a more rare type. This dealership seems to have mainstream every day modern vehicles. I don't know any of these people beyond an initial meeting but based on first impressions it was enough to suggest that the only one I'd trust is the youngest, the owner's son. He was a gentleman with integrity and character. Since I was raised to not say anything if you don't have anything nice to say, I will not speak in too much detail to the behavior of the two older gentleman who interrupted the younger gentleman helping me. They are why this review is two stars. I will be honest from a psychological perspective. If I was diagnosing them I'd probably use words like narcissistic manipulative dishonesty.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I've heard horror stories about mechanics before, but I've NEVER seen an auto…read moremechanic service business so absolutely, & blatantly RIP OFF a customer, the way this one did me!!! Admittedly, this was quite a job. I needed to swap engines in my 2002 Toyota Camry. A friend of my daughter's (Anthony) started the job. Got to the point where the engine was ready to come out, then quit. On the phone, the guy said they could get it right in, and it would be about $1000 to finish up. I had the car towed there along with the new engine (a crate motor that I'd purchased). In addition, I loaded the trunk & cabin with a bunch of new parts, such as: new lifetime serpentine belt, new lifetime upper & lower radiator hoses, engine & cabin air filters, transmission filter & gaskets, super premium spark plugs, really, everything you could think of to be sure everything was in tip top shape once it was done. And YES, I certainly do have receipts for every bit of it!!! It was in their possession 2 days after New Years. They didn't even get started on it for almost 2 weeks! I called every week, at least once. It started with the guy I talked to quit (didn't get a name, so no idea if this was so). Then a new guy started, & he was the one working on my car, but he was only working 2 days a week. Well, finally on January 27th, they called & the car was done. But now it was going to be almost $1900! Of course I went nuts! They finally agreed on $1494.47. I went to pick up the car. The upper engine cover, was like brand new, now was missing!Once I found it, in the trunk, it was broken in 3 pieces! Not an easy thing to do! They said oh they found it in the front seat with a CV joint on top of it! And the speedometer no longer worked. Then I found they had put it back together with a USED serpentine belt! There wasn't even a used serpentine belt there, as he cut the old one off. Then I noticed a used lower radiator hose, and a new upper hose, but not the one I bought! I told them in the beginning I wanted ALL used parts returned to me. They didn't return the fuel rail, air conditioner compressor, power steering pump, and PLENTY more!!! This place ripped me off so bad I can't believe it!!! All they have to say about it is that they never got those parts!!! So I called & talked to the tow truck driver. He says they are lying like nobody's business!!! He said that if those parts were missing, they were taken out AFTER they took delivery. which he says he KNOWS they were in there because he'd seen them himself. And my receipts show that I bought ALL of these parts WELL before the car ever went to this place! Why would I buy all of these parts, NOT to have them installed when it was the EASIEST time to do it?? SOMEONE'S LYING, ans SOMEONE"S a CROOK!!! I told the guy the day it was towed there that I had ALL of these new parts for putting it back together. NOBODY EVER CALLED ABOUT THE PARTS THE BROKEN UPPER ENGINE COVER, NOTHING!!! They put all these garbage parts in on a NEW ENGINE INSTALL!!! Why would ANYONE put a crate motor with 59,000 miles on it with these junk used parts??? Take your car to this place at your own risk. If you can't stand there & watch them do the job, you will probably be sorry!!! I KNOW I AM!!! WORST PLACE ON THE PENINSULA, DON'T RISK IT!!!
