Have you ever been to a clinic that is so poorly managed, you wonder how it could be in business? That is DOCS Urgent Care of North Haven. This review is based on my experience at the North Haven location on Saturday, Jan 8, 2022 and Sunday, Jan 9, 2022. There are so many red flags, so please be cautious when making an appointment and coming here for any sort of medical ailment. I made an appointment for a COVID test the day before, spent time filling out paperwork, and downloaded a mobile app to ensure that I would be set for my appointment. On the day of my appointment, I sat in my car and checked in. With COVID restrictions, I wanted to avoid waiting inside and sat in my car waiting for them to call me back. I waited for a good 15 minutes and nobody ever called me. I even called, but nobody picks up the phone. I also used the online app messenger and it said I would get a response in two hours or less. I saw a huge line forming outside, so I decided to wait in line with others. Red flag #1: They don't have an online check-in system. Red flag #2: Nobody answers the phone. Red flag #3: The messenger on the website is pointless. After waiting in line for another 45 minutes, I was able to finally talk to someone who wanted me to fill out paperwork. I explained that I did all of the paperwork online and they couldn't see it. She was confused, so spent some time looking for it and then she found it. Red flag #4: They can't see your paperwork already done in advance. I then went to take my test and the person told me I would have my results in an hour, but plan on two hours. I never got my results. I called, emailed, and used the messenger on the website. Red flag #5: They never sent my results. I then drove all the way back the next morning to explain my results were missing. I waited in line again. The guy said that they forgot to upload them! I was shocked. He printed them and said they would upload them. Red flag #6: They forgot to upload my results. With so many red flags here, you can see the clinic is poorly managed. The employees were doing their best with what resources they had. Not a manager or doctor on-site, which really makes me wonder how this place operates. My experience is based on my personal visits. If it wasn't for me advocating for myself to get my results on my own, I am not sure I would have received them. Red flag #7: The mobile app still doesn't show my results. Advocate for yourself at this location. They have an email address on their check-in window, but I am not sure how often they check it. Here it is: northhaven@docsofct.com I had a horrible experience and suggest you find an urgent care that has on-site management that is able to handle their patient's needs. If you read other reviews, you can see people had similar experiences, so just be cautious and advocate for yourself.

I would come here again if I knew exactly what I needed. I arrived about an hour before it closed on a weekday for a bad reaction to bug bites. There were two other parties who arrived about the same time I did. I was a little thrown off when I was asked in the wide-open why I was here. At other urgent care centers, I have had the opportunity to write it down on a piece of paper for privacy. I saw Dr. Manchandani, who was not the warmest doctor, but I think he could tell I already knew what my issue was and that I was a pretty straightforward patient. He didn't bat an eye when I had additional questions for him. The exam room was clean, but you could tell it was a little worn. Overall, it took me just over an hour to get in and get out. I believe the doctor I saw was the only one working at that hour.

We saw Dr. Hernandez-Trujillo, who had terrible bedside manner, but that could be looked past. We had a skin test done and the results prompted Dr. Hernandez-Trujillo to order bloodwork. She had told us that in the meantime she would prescribe an EpiPen. When we went to get the prescription we were told hadn't been called in and had to call the office multiple times over multiple days to finally get the prescription to the pharmacy. (Meanwhile, our son couldn't be in childcare without the EpiPen) We got his blood work done two days after the initial appointment and results came in a few days after that. We waited a week before calling the office to see if it was reviewed, and additional four days later, we still hadn't heard, so followed up again and we're told they would call us back. Hours later we talked with someone in the office that was incredibly insensitive and rude, including laughing at my husband for asking what the next steps would be and to clarify what "strict avoidance" meant. She was incredibly unhelpful, despite telling us that the results show a severe allergy, chiding us for not looking at the patient portal when it was updated 30min prior to them calling us. TL;DR : we had to follow up to get a prescription and blood test results, everyone we interacted with was a rude and insensitive, and the entire time we felt like we were an extremely low priority, despite having a life-threatening allergy identified for my 1yo.

Over the next two years the rash would fade and then gradually come back. When the itching and burning finally got to a point I could no longer tolerate, I went to see a dermatologist. He gave me a very brief exam, told me that I was having an allergic reaction, and directed me to take Benadryl until I could rule out what was causing the breakout. (I should mention here, I despise taking any kind of medication.) Not wanting to endure the grogginess caused by an antihistamine for any length of time, I immediately eliminated anything and everything I thought had caused the rash. Laundry detergent. Dryer sheets. Body wash. Lotion. Shampoo. I even purchased all new cotton sports bras in fear I had an allergy to Spandex. NOTHING WORKED. In fact, the rash got worse! It spread to my chest and had gotten itchier than ever! I was completely devastated. I eventually convinced myself I was allergic to my own sweat and nothing could be done to cure me. The rash continued to get bigger, redder, and unrulier. I was suffering from the inside out. I was self-conscious and painfully uncomfortable all the time. On occasion, I would scratch my skin so hard that clear liquid would come out ... ewwww! This went on for YEARS. In early 2017 I had undergone PRK surgery on my eyes. The freedom of not having to wear contacts and glasses anymore made me feel like a billion bucks. It also got me back to thinking about that damn rash! I could only imagine how fabulous I'd feel if I could somehow get rid of it. As soon as my eyes were fully healed, I began researching local skin doctors. That's when I stumbled across Dr. Amy. With amazing patient reviews and a very professional and informative website, I felt really good about giving Dr. Amy a call. When she answered the phone and actually said she could see me that same day, I was completely blown away! A few hours later, I was sitting in her office. When I first met Dr. Amy, it felt like I was reconnecting with an old friend from college. Her kind, caring, and genuine nature made it so easy to talk to her. She spent almost a full 30 minutes asking me a variety of questions on diet, sleep patterns, exercise, health, etc. Then she looked at my rash. Within seconds, she told me she believed I had either a dairy or gluten allergy. I was ASTONISHED. In all the years of dealing with this hideous rash, not once did I ever tie it to food! Ok, so now I felt like I was getting somewhere! Dr. Amy put me on an elimination diet, which meant no dairy or gluten/wheat for a full month. She also gave me a supplement and some topical cream to use. I left the appointment feeling extremely positive. Dr. Amy must have sensed my excitement because she even gave me a hug good-bye! Ready to hear the best part of my story? My six-year-old rash cleared 100% within three days of seeing Dr. Amy. It was miraculous! Now I'm going on almost a solid two full months of being rash-free. I've gone back to see Dr. Amy twice for check-ups and she was just as excited as I was over the results. I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Amy to anyone who is experiencing skin issues and is looking for a natural way to get phenomenal results. She is fantastic and just a wonderful human being all the way around!
