Science is alive and well at Cedars Sinai. The staff is amazing. The nurses and the clinical partners work as a team. No one ever waits for the other one to do their job. They do their jobs together. It's very proficient and efficient. Even the cleaning people are friendly. They always have a smile on a good morning. I think whoever hires staff at Cedars deserves accolades for their ability to find the best of the best in every aspect of the hospital. Believe it or not I enjoyed the food. I more than often ordered the salmon and the sweet pea soup. I was moved to a long-term care Hospital and I really miss the salmon :0) I would give Cedars Sinai 10 stars if I could.

As a matter of fact I was sick myself with an AKI and a creatinine that was badly elevated. I recall vividly saying "I'd rather die at home" then be admitted to this hell hole of a facility. This place is really unsafe and I have seen so many egregious errors go down watching my father's care take place here, then my aunt, and now a close friend of mine. First and foremost if you say you see a safety issue they will gaslight you and cover their ass. When I was with my Dad in the ER back in 2023 they failed to scrub the hub when they were pushing medications in his line. If this was a code I would have been a little more understanding but it wasn't. It's gross. They failed to reassess angioedema and airway obstruction as the night went down. Only I was asking him to open his mouth and double check. So much task oriented robotic care was going on, it was bloody unsafe. Now my aunt, well they killed her. I no longer have an aunt cause of this hospital. I won't get into further details but I encourage everyone please please report to CMS if you have speculations about a loved one's care. Don't even go to joint commission, go to CMS. It doesn't change loss but I know this one was a royal f-up.

Honestly, the poor 1 star reviews here are shocking to read because our experience couldn't be…read moreanything further from this and I would give a 10 star rating if I was able. It's not everyday you find out that your mom is having heart failure, come in feeling devastated/hopeless, but these people did their absolute best to take care of us with compassion, integrity, and go above and beyond to address our needs. This entire process was almost 2-3 months long, my mom had a complex 15 hour surgery, and yet made a recovery in less than 2 weeks, and was discharged today and is now soundly back at home, and it's all because of the incredible team here. There's a lot of people to name from their amazing staff but here's some specific people that left an incredible impression on us I'd love to give credit to: Station 45: Sydney the nurse was extremely warm, compassionate, and took such great care of my mom during the initial stages of her being admitted in January while they were diagnosing her condition. Critical Care Unit: Joe, Cassie, Cesar who treated my mom with the utmost respect, patience, dignity, and care given her post op condition. No matter how much assistance was needed by my mom, big or small, they attended to her swiftly in all manners, continually provided me reassurance, and thoughtfully answered any and all questions and concerns. Extra special shout out to Felicia Sanders and Haig who went above and beyond to provide my mom with the utmost comfort, you both were angels. Step down unit, floor 2, of West Tower: Shannon, Letty Martinez, Jazzmin, Elena, Becky, Gloria, Robert, Rhonald, Carlos, Art, Brenton, and Jed. Wow this team was also incredible. They continually checked on my mom as well through the day and night, encouraged her walking and movement, breathing treatment, independence, and literally guided her every step of the way in that journey. Extra special shout out to: Hailey Milsark, Mary Cavena, Emily, and Yolanda. I visited her everyday, and never once had to leave with any doubt or worry in my heart and soul, knowing she was in exceptional hands. Cardiothoracic surgery team: Dr Lim, Dr Bob, Dr Andy Chang, Elysa Guran, Melissa, Sunita Boparai, and of course, Dr Armin Kiankhooy and Dr Grace Huang who performed miraculous work in a lengthy, complex, and demanding procedure(s). There isn't enough words to describe our awe at the superhuman job you did to put my mom on the path of recovery and healing given her initial diagnosis. We feel extremely blessed and count our lucky stars that the universe gave us the good fortune to have been put under your guidance and care. Sorry to anyone I may have accidentally missed, but we truly love and appreciate you all. We recognize how difficult your work and job is, and just how demanding it is, and yet you all were continually at it, day and night, with the highest positive attitudes and energy and it made all the difference for us in our healing. You are all the real heroes and we hope you get all the credit and respect you deserve, because this was one of the hardest things we had to go through in this journey of life, and you all made it as pleasant and smooth of an experience as could be. In our experience, we were treated with love, care, dignity, and gentleness, and made to feel like we were a part of their family/friends. I'm no medical expert, but I believe the high level of care we received here is why my mom is making such an exceptional recovery. You all have helped give her a new lease on life. We are truly grateful beyond the words I was able to write here.

One year ago today I had one of the worst medical experiences of my life at Huntington Health…read more I went to the ER with severe stomach pain. A CT scan was performed, but the radiologist apparently misread the results. My appendix had already ruptured and I had an appendicular abscess forming around what remained of it. Because of this error, I was left without surgery for an additional night while in excruciating pain. Surgery did not occur until the following evening. When I was taken into the surgical room, there was blood on the ceiling, which was shocking and unsettling to see before a procedure. After surgery, I was placed in the maternity ward being used as overflow because there were no available rooms. The room felt like a closet. The TV did not work, and the monitoring system initially didn't work either--they had to go find another one. I was given a PureWick catheter device to urinate with, and it was never changed during my stay. I later developed a severe urinary tract infection. A nurse in my family told me these devices are supposed to be replaced multiple times a day. One night after surgery around 3 AM, I woke up in excruciating pain and repeatedly pressed the nurse call button, but the remote didn't work. I could hear nurses laughing nearby but no one responded until I gathered enough strength to yell out. Only then did staff come in. I also remember a night when blood was drawn and the nurse smelled strongly of alcohol, which was extremely concerning. Overall, the experience was chaotic, painful, and deeply unsettling. Between the diagnostic error, the lack of responsiveness, and poor post-operative care, I would strongly caution anyone to think twice before going to this ER if other options are available.

They took me…read morein immediately, put me in a room to the side (not just a curtained area) & hooked to heart, oxygen & respiration monitoring machine. Urine, blood analyisis, given an asprine - suspected stroke. ER busy, like every big city ER. They closed my door so as not to have to endure extremely loud cussing & abusive language of a street person whose life they had just saved when he was revived. A quieter upstairs room was available by 3am. 6 or 7 tests were ordered, including CT & MRI scans. I was not allowed to leave until all tests were completed & evaluated. An overnite stay was mandated, & I was imoved to a private room. Nurse shows you a video upon the TV of hospital rules for the patients. 5 stars because: all the many staff were courteous, professional, knowledgable & personable, food was delicious (all 3 meals), perfect temp & climate controlled. They had all the state of the art equipment necessary for my diagnosis. I was wearing shorts & not long pants, & was allowed to put the smock on over those. During one exam, the technician made a mistake that resulted in a bit of a mess upon my smock, which he replaced. But I was imrpessed that he was man enough to own up & admit it & not try to rationalize/excuse it away. I was given a photocopied pamphlet describing in detail what my symptoms indicated (Transient Ischemic Attack), necessary tests & possible tratments, etc. Dr Te was excelent. With such a large facility & so many demands upon services & equipment by overflowing, unpredictable & cantankerous clients, I felt that the person/people did a remarkable job keeping events scheduled & organized such as to maintain as efficient a "flow" as possible. By Sat eve all tests were completed. Released Sat PM with a free taxi ride (paid by my insurance). TIPS to help you while in hospital: 1) If you're rt handed, let them find a vein in your LEFT elbow pit in which to put their manditory port needle. So much easier for eating, grooming, etc. etc. 2) When someone comes around with an apparatus or to collect you for a needed exam, don't put them off because of an "inconvience" (example to finish lunch or phone conversation/visitation), because it may be quite some time before that machine or techie is available again. If the Dr. ordered it & you missed it, you may need a longer stay. 3) I maintained cheerfulness, respect & apprciation even in the midst of sometimes painful & restricting circumstances. In my mind, all these people are heros & are doing the best they can. Don't wear out your welcome with constant complaints & negative talk. 4) Follow hospital rules. The bed is alarmed. Ever have another patient unexpectedly wander into your room? I don't want it. Also, no hospital wan'ts additional injury to patients due to a fall. 5) If you use a cell phone, always carry with you a charge cord.

WORST HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD…read more I recently underwent eardrum surgery with one of the top surgeons in Los Angeles who, unfortunately, performs surgeries at the surgery center connected to this hospital. Due to a reaction to the anesthesia, I unexpectedly needed to stay overnight following the procedure. What should have been a quiet recovery experience was anything but. Throughout the evening, a patient in the room next to me was repeatedly screaming due to what appeared to be severe distress, and a patient across the hall was loudly making threatening statements toward staff, saying she was going to kill them. As someone recovering from surgery, exhausted and vulnerable, the environment felt incredibly stressful and unsettling. Every time I needed to use the restroom I had to call for assistance. If I attempted to get up independently due to them taking too long, an alarm would sound continuously until staff arrived. Combined with the overall environment, this made an already difficult recovery feel overwhelming. When I asked staff whether there was a quieter recovery area available for post-surgical patients, I was told that patients are assigned based on room availability. Due to there being a known park across the street filled with drug addicts, this is where they come for drug overdoses is what was explained. I fully understand that hospitals care for all types of patients and emergencies, and I have tremendous respect for healthcare workers. Following surgery, patients need rest, a sense of safety, and the ability to recover in peace. Had I known what the overnight environment would be like, I honestly would have preferred recovering at home. Very terrifying experience.

I was in the ER for 19 hours because they didn't have any beds upstairs. That is unacceptable. But the doctors and nurses did their best to care for me until I could be admitted. Wen was part of the overnight staff and was incredible. The ER was not sanitary. The bathrooms in the waiting room and within the ER especially were not being maintained and I might have contracted the flu from using them. Once I was admitted to the second floor, the levels of care were exponentially better. I had around the clock care and a call button for if I needed anything. They made sure I knew what was happening with my body and gave me full control over my treatment options. The food was surprisingly acceptable; sometimes even good. One thing that I found strange was that I never was told about how billing worked or what my insurance would cover. If you have loved ones, please think carefully before coming here…read more My brother passed away while under this hospital's care, and our family was not properly informed about how critically ill he truly was. For weeks, we were told he was "sick" and that his liver was "not doing well." It was only at the very last moment that we were told he was actually in severe liver failure with kidney and multiple organ issues. We were led to believe he was improving, which is why he was moved to the 9th floor to "recover on his own" with minimal support. If his condition was truly life-threatening, we do not understand why this was done, why he was not monitored more closely, or why our family was not clearly warned. When his condition suddenly worsened, we were only told at the very last minute how serious it was. We were told he could not be transferred, despite the situation being life-threatening. He had been hospitalized since Thanksgiving, yet critical decisions and communication were delayed. My brother passed away last week. What hurts most is not only the loss, but the lack of transparency, urgency, and communication during his care. Families deserve honesty and timely updates -- especially when someone's life is at risk.

I'm currently a patient at Providence St. Joseph's in Burbank, and I want to share how truly…read moregrateful I am for the care I've received. From the moment I arrived, every nurse I encountered has been an absolute sweetheart--attentive, compassionate, and genuinely caring. They never let me fall asleep feeling worried, and they consistently made me feel safe and supported. I came into the ER on Tuesday night with my children, and the staff helped me immediately. What started as a normal day ended with me being admitted and scheduled for surgery. I'm here alone, and while my kids are thankfully with family, being in the hospital on a holiday by yourself is a heavy feeling. You want to be home, but you also don't want to take anyone else away from their plans. The reality of my surgery hit me hard. Wanting a tiny bit of comfort, I called the kitchen right as they were closing just to ask--if possible--for some ice cream. Nothing specific, just something small to lift my mood. I got the voicemail and left a simple message, saying I understood if it wasn't doable and wishing them a happy holiday. About 20-30 minutes later, there was a knock at my door. Even though the kitchen was closed, a staff member brought me a cup of ice cream--and surprised me with the sweetest little strawberry cake topped with whipped cream. That act of kindness meant so much to me. It's those small, thoughtful moments that remind you how good people can be. To the nurses and the staff member who went out of their way to brighten my night: thank you. I truly appreciate you.

My review is specifically for the ER department…read more I truly try to be understanding because I know hospitals are understaffed, overwhelmed, and the staff deals with difficult situations every day. I've always remained polite and patient during my visits. But after multiple experiences here, I honestly feel like something needs to be said. Every single time I've come to this ER, the wait has been excessive -- usually 7+ hours just to be seen or placed in a room, followed by several more hours waiting for updates or care once inside. I understand emergencies happen and patients are prioritized by severity, but the overall experience feels extremely disorganized and lacking compassion. The waiting room is consistently dirty and overcrowded, with visibly sick people sitting for hours without updates. What bothered me most, though, was the attitude from some of the staff at the front desk. Patients and family members asking simple questions are often spoken to like they're inconveniencing the staff just for needing help or clarification. During my most recent visit, I spent nearly 10 hours there before eventually deciding to decline admission and go home. I was placed in a room without a pillow or blanket and asked three separate times for a blanket, but was ignored each time. No one expects perfection, especially in a busy ER. But basic compassion, communication, and respect should still exist. People come to the emergency room scared, sick, in pain, and vulnerable. The way patients are treated matters just as much as the medical care itself. I genuinely hope this department improves, because no patient should leave feeling dismissed, ignored, or like they were a burden for simply needing medical help.

My client is over 60, wheelchair-bound, has a history of colon cancer, and came to the ER for shortness of breath. When he asked to use the bathroom, no fall risk precautions were put in place--nothing to ensure his safety. He had very limited strength, difficulty breathing, and yet he was sent to navigate this on his own. Using the handicap rails, he attempted to stand and immediately fell. Only after the fall was a fall risk wristband applied. This is basic patient safety, completely ignored. When I went to follow up, social worker Elizabeth became aggressively hostile as I asked simple questions about my client's condition. She refused to provide clear information and escalated the situation unnecessarily. I requested assistance from the charge nurse, Julio, who was present but offered no real accountability or support--simply stoic and dismissive. My questions about whether my client was checked on after the fall, or how his safety was addressed, were brushed aside. This hospital clearly prioritizes procedure and profit over human life. A patient nearly injured in their care had to fight just to be treated with basic dignity and respect. They are quick to discharge or transfer patients without addressing the serious risks and errors they caused. For a facility that deals with vulnerable populations--elderly, disabled, undocumented, homeless--this is absolutely unacceptable. MLK Hospital urgently needs systemic accountability: proper fall prevention protocols, training for staff in communication and empathy, and a real commitment to patient safety. Until then, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hospital to anyone, especially for those who are vulnerable or unable to advocate for themselves.
