Doc's Cottages is just what the doctor ordered. If you are planning to visit South Lake Tahoe, forget the overpriced motels turned into "faux" luxury resorts with resort fees or the shadily priced Airbnb/VRBO rentals that appear to be cheap until you see the ridiculous cleaning fees. Consider Doc's Cottages, a small business that is owned and operated by the amicable owners, Lloyd and Angie, since the 1980s. On top of that, Doc's Cottages is dog-friendly ($20 per night), just make sure to call ahead and let the owners know. Each of the eight cabins has its own kitchenette with an electric stove, mini-fridge, microwave, pots, and utensils. There are also charcoal BBQs and an outdoor fire pit. We stayed in Cabin 4 (single bed) in March 2020, which is heated via a central furnace and an electric fireplace. Both work really well to warm you up. However, since Doc's Cottages is not a typical hotel, you do need to bring your own toiletries (shampoo and lotion). If you forget, there is a Raley's supermarket across the street. The cabins were very clean and despite being built in 1929, you would not know it. However, being almost 100-years-old before laptops and cell phones, there are not enough power cords. I travel a lot so I always bring a power strip and you will need one if you need to plug in multiple iPhones, laptops, etc. Also, during our stay, the WiFi seemed to be a bit spotty (possibly due to the weather) so we just used our iPhones as personal hotspots to use our laptops. Other than that, our stay was awesome. When we visit Tahoe, we try to bring our dog with us when possible. Many hotels are dog-friendly but charge a ridiculous fee or have a requirement that your dog should not be left along in the room. This is not the case as Doc's! $20 per night is an amazing bargain, and you can leave your dog in the cabin as long as your furry one is potty-trained. We were able to leave our little guy, Charlie, in the room while we hit the slopes at Kirkwood and Heavenly without having to stress about him. Additionally, Doc's location cannot be beat. It's on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe so there are no resort fees and it its right next to Harvey's Casino and within walking distance to the Heavenly village and gondola. What's more is that there is a brewery right across the street at the Basecamp hotel that is dog-friendly and has outdoor fire pits, cornhole, table tennis, and of course good beer that is open to about 10 PM. At the end of the day, Doc's Cottages provided just what we needed. A cozy cabin with a kitchenette that was dog-friendly. Since we lug around ski gear, it was great to have the parking be right in front of the cabin as well. And of course, I love supporting local-owned small businesses. * Special thanks to the innkeeper and really friendly Debbie for helping remove the snow from our Subaru when we were checking out! * It turns out that Clark Gable used to stay at Cottage 1 when he used to visit South Lake Tahoe. So if you want a bit of history you can try to stay there. As for me, frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" since I'll take any of the cottages!

Beautiful little cottages! Well kept well maintained!! Earlier this month was our fourth stay there and we've always had a great time!

Nothing fancy, it was just was we needed. Tucked in behind Harvey's just a couple blocks off highway 50. The side street is nice and quiet. There eight cottages to choose from, I recommend checking them out on line there are great pictures and descriptions there. Booking was easy as well as checking in. The next morning the owner checked on us to see if we needed anything. Cottage #4 was perfect for us. The studio kitchen had everything we needed. Cold cold frig, coffee maker and toaster. And a nice breakfast nook. The queen bed was large, comfy and clean. The bathroom also clean- just a tip, don't flush the toilet if someone is in the shower- they would be happy. The towels are soft and huge. There was a nice big flat screen tv and cable. The electric fireplace was great- it added ambiance and took the chill off in the evening. It even had a remote control so you didn't have to get out of bed. The price for our weekend was just right. No hidden resort fees or parking charges. Its location is perfect- walking distance to everything in the area. I would definitely stay here again.

Best hidden secret in South Lake Tahoe EVER!! Close to the Casino's, dog friendly, individual cottages, next to the concert venue, access to private beach and inexpensive - yep you can't beat this! Clean, cozy, and perfect size with a kitchenette - we were elated with our accommodations and the owners are just the most amazing couple EVER! We will definitely be back, thank you for a wonderful getaway!

Kitchenette included pots and pans, toaster and coffee maker. As well as microwave and stuff to wash dishes

Booked three nights here for our honeymoon and I'm glad we did! First off, Angie was very friendly and showed us around the cabin. Cabin had everything you'd need like pots/pans, microwave, mini fridge, stuff to wash dishes and a toaster. Very convenient location as you can park right infront of your cabin to easily unload your luggage. Also super close to the lake (only a 5minute walk). The mini fridge kept our drinks super cold! We stayed in cottage number 2 and it was very clean upon arrival. Only thing I'd say negative about this place is I wish it had AC but they do have plenty of fans in the cottage and the amount of windows gives off a cool breeze. Overall I recommend this place for a nice romantic getaway. Side note: they have a patio area with a grill you can use if you wanted an evening after the lake BBQing.

The bed was too hard and a bit high.

We really enjoyed our stay at Doc's Cottages. As others have posted, it's walking distance to everywhere you'd want to go to ... the beach, shopping, resaurants and casinos. We stayed in cabin 2. The only con I have is that the bed was horribly uncomfortable. It was too firm, no bounce at all and we woke up sore. We appreciated that the mini kitchen had everything we needed if we wanted to cook, although we didn't use it.

Small bedroom with fireplace, TV, fan.

Stumbled upon this place and the owners were very nice and happy to see us. Had one room left with two bed and it worked out perfect. Had an electric fire place and warmed up nicely. Bathroom was large for the size of the cute little cottage and TV in both rooms. Only $147 with taxes and fees for one night. They were proud of their place and would stay here again :-)

This place is wonderful! The staff is very accommodating and so pleasant to deal with. The cottage was very clean, equipped with everything needed for cooking. All pots and pans were in great condition and everything looked pretty close to new. We were greeted by the staff upon arrival and she walked us to our cottage to show us how to use everything and to make sure that everything worked. I wish I remembered her name. Both ladies that helped out were very nice and pleasant! This will definitely be our new go to when traveling to Tahoe!!! Thank you so much for providing such a clean and welcoming establishment!

Do they allow large dogs?

Yes but there really is no where for them to go. There’s no fields or grassy areas unless you drive away from the Casinos. Nice trails further down.

The champagne at check-in is a nice touch. If there's a line, sit by the fire in the lobby or the one outside while you wait. Rooms are good sized, especially the mini suites. Small things keep this from getting five stars: * No true desk area with plugs if you have to work * Lights in bathroom are dim making it harder to shave * Bed is very comfortable but pillows are mid Spa is very nice. I appreciate the steam room and the shared quiet room with snacks. The heated outdoor jacuzzi is epic -- I may have stayed in it for 30 mins. Massages are resort priced but excellent. Food is high quality and good variety. (Will review separately) Lots of onsite activities, especially during summer. Almost all of the staff are over the top friendly. Despite asking every time, I've never been able to get a late checkout. I guess they are always busy.

I had never stayed at the lodge before, but several of my friends have and could not recommend it enough. We had a ground floor two-queen bed room. Everything about this hotel speaks luxury. The room was spacious and had all of the comforts you could ever want: soft, plush beds, a large bathroom with ample vanity space, large walk-in shower, and massive bathtub. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely breathtaking and we enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the beach watching the sunset over Lake Tahoe. I love that they offer fun activities such as board games and s'mores around the fire. They offer morning, yoga classes by the lake as well as lawn games like cornhole. The pool looked wonderful, although we did not partake. This is definitely a spot you would want to come if you were celebrating a wedding or an anniversary. And I intend to bring my husband here for our wedding anniversary in October!

Just book it, especially if you have fur babies!…read more My husband and I live in Reno and wanted to book an anniversary trip to Tahoe that we could take our senior Weimaraners. We also have a friend who is a photographer and we haven't had professional photos taken since our wedding 18 years ago so we thought The Landing would be the perfect place since they host weddings here and it's right next to the beach. There are so many excellent parts to mention but I will start with the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so friendly and welcoming to us and our dog. Our 15 year old had just passed and so our 12 year old was a little lost and loved all of the attention. She was treated just like one of the family. They even allow dogs on the free shuttle which is so perfect so we were able to go into the village and have lunch with her. It's a downhill walk back and so pretty, so we enjoyed the fresh air back. They upgraded our room and the views of the lake were perfect. It was so easy taking Juno out for potty breaks. It was extremely quiet and clean. The heated floors and toilets are a nice touch. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and it is the best meal I've had in Tahoe. The Venison is unbelievably tender and flavorful. My husband loved his homemade pasta with huge prawns. Our server, Kevin, went above and beyond to make the night special. They even let us take a few pictures in the bar area which I think turned out really cool with all of the bottles and colors in the background. Of course we all come for Tahoe! This place is right on a perfect spot. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, some trees and grassy areas also made for perfect pictures. We were there right at the start of Memorial Day weekend so it was extremely quiet and peaceful. I'm sure it will get busy in the height of summer but even then being able to walk across the street from your room makes it so convenient. We want to thank everyone at The Landing for a perfect trip! We can't wait to do it again!

All the included amenities make The Landing stand out! One of our drivers, Benjamin had great energy and suggestions! Loved the free shuttle drives to everything nearby within a 2mi radius. Amazing location. Everything is within a walking distance. We had a partial lake view room with a balcony and fireplace. Our room was spacious and beds were super comfy! There's a mini fridge and Lavazza espresso machine and coffee pods. Heated bathroom floors, heated toilet seats, great shower pressure, and a bathtub with jets. Loved the touch with bath robes and slippers! They also have a rooftop bar with a direct view of the lake. One of the nights, there was a wedding and it was closed to hotel guests. The next day around 5:30pm there was live music- the duo was singing covers and taking requests. They were amazing! There was also complimentary charcuterie. Definitely a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Here are some other noteworthy amenities during our stay: Complimentary champagne from 3pm-10pm. Smores kits 6pm-10pm. Coffee, hot cocoa, tea, fresh apples in the lobby- and the best water from Tahoe. Free daily admission to the private Lakeside Beach. Heated pool and Jacuzzi. Fire pits. Even after we checked out, beach admission, parking and shuttle drives are still included for the whole day. Onsite restaurant, formerly known as Jimmy's which we didn't try. We stayed for a couple nights and wished we could stay longer. It was a stay that made us not want to leave the room and hotel! It was a perfect getaway and we can't wait to return for many more firsts together.

No room service, no daily maid service. Limited flexibility if for some reason there is a need to change rooms. I was informed that it was due in part to folks reserving the time share rooms. Valet parking can be slow if it is a busy time period. Pretty on par with many properties. People do smoke outside in the courtyard/by the gondolas and if your room is above you will get a bit smoked out. I noted that the property is right on highway 50 so there is quite a bit of through traffic; bicycle, vehicle and pedestrian. The rooms were clean and if one gets the full suite (kitchen, living and dining area) very spacious. Close to shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Overall, a nice place to stay. Just be aware that it is not (by design) a traditional hotel as I mentioned.

It's close to everything,…read moreincluding Heavenly Village, restaurants, shops, and the gondola, which makes it incredibly convenient and walkable. We typically stay at Edgewood when visiting South Lake Tahoe, but decided to try something different this time. Unfortunately, the stay got off to a rough start. We arrived around noon on Friday and were told our room was ready, even though official check-in is at 4 PM. When we went up, housekeeping was still cleaning and informed us it would be another 30 minutes. Later, the manager called to apologize and explained that we had been given the wrong room number. He asked for permission to have staff move our belongings to the correct room. While the apology was appreciated, it wasn't a great first impression and set the tone for the rest of the stay. There is no room service, despite having an onsite restaurant (Fire + Ice), which was disappointing after a long travel day. I also asked the front desk if they had honey so I could make green tea in our room and was told they didn't. For a Marriott property, that felt surprising and oddly basic. Housekeeping is not provided daily. There was no one to make the bed or tidy up during our stay. While we were told we could call if we needed anything, it still felt like a noticeable downgrade in service for a hotel at this price point. We stayed from Friday to Sunday, and the only complimentary item offered was a single homemade cookie, handed out individually. On Saturday, hot chocolate was available, but it was $5 per cup. Charging for hot water, cocoa powder, and a few marshmallows felt nickel-and-dimey, especially at a resort-style hotel. The biggest frustration, however, was the constant timeshare solicitation. Immediately after checking in, we were approached at the concierge desk and pitched a "promotion." We declined. Later that same day, we were approached again and declined once more. Then on Saturday evening at 7 PM, my personal cell phone rang with caller ID showing Marriott. It was the same person calling yet again to pitch the timeshare. While a gift card was offered, not everyone is interested in $200. Our vacation time is more valuable than sitting through a 90-minute sales presentation. After declining multiple times, the continued follow-up felt unprofessional. A clear "no" should be noted and respected. The room itself was nice. We stayed in a one-bedroom villa with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, living area, and a separate bedroom and bathroom. The layout was functional for families, with two TVs and a sofa bed in the living room. However, the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable and made sleeping difficult, especially after long days out. There was a simple welcome note in the room, but no other welcome amenity. We weren't expecting much, just a small thoughtful touch. The property does offer an outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi, open from 8 AM to 10 PM, which is a nice amenity for families and for unwinding after a day out. Checkout is at 10 AM, which feels early. Many comparable hotels offer at least an 11 AM checkout. In our case, by Sunday morning we were so eager to leave due to the overall experience that we checked out at 8:00 AM. We genuinely couldn't wait to go. Overall, while the location and room layout are strong, the lack of basic hospitality, repeated sales pressure, limited housekeeping, and early missteps made this stay feel more transactional than relaxing. For the price and the Marriott name, I expected a far more polished experience. We would not choose to stay here again.

In this massive property with over 400 rooms, you'll find outdated spaces, worn furniture, dark and dingy hallways, dirty windows, hard old towels, thin bedding, lumpy pillows, and beds on the firm side. Even the plants outside have stopped being watered and left to die. Ice machines are broken on multiple floors, so you end up wandering around to other floors in the hopes of one working. The indoor pool has a bit of a Hefner grotto vibe but is constantly packed with screaming kids. It's as if someone told management just to keep the lights on because nothing else matters. Prices swing wildly: sometimes just over $100, but on busy weekends they shoot past $600. Then they tack on a $27 nightly resort fee and another $20 for self parking. Truly delusional fees for what you get. I've stayed here several times only because the rooms are comped. I would never pay to sleep here. There are plenty of wonderful hotels, and even motels, in the area that don't charge bogus resort & parking fees. The online room photos are heavily filtered and don't match reality once you check in. A few positives: the rooms are spacious at over 400 sq ft, and some have minor upgrades like newer bathrooms. There's a Starbucks near the gaming floor, a spa and a few restaurants. I haven't tried them so no opinions there. Overall, this place desperately needs a facelift and real upgrades. The soaking tub takes some agility getting in and out, but is nice and deep and has jets. It takes a while to fill up, but once it does, it's really relaxing. We love how both walls next to the sliding glass doors on both levels have a see thru fireplace. Such a cute, romantic detail that's nice to have running while you're relaxing. The heated floors in the bathroom are an added perk. Oh! And you get your own garage- even though you still have to access the home from outside the garage. They are incredible accommodating. They have a list of things offered on request like kids toys, hygiene kits, ironing board, etc. They get added points for having those really expensive amazing Dyson hair dryers as their hair drying option too It's one of our favorite places to stay!

Never stayed in a Yurt before. Was a beautiful and unique experience. The people who work in and…read morearound this property are so lovely, professional and willing to help. The bed was so damn comfy out of all the hotels that I have stayed at. This was just like sleeping in my own bed, soft and firm to just so cozy! I will definitely come back especially during the snow season. It was absolutely picturesque.

Definitely recommend this Hotel. It is not a fancy hotel,…read moreand that was okay. The staff were all very friendly and nice to chat with. Met a nice girl that told me all about her travels to Japan. Which is helpful and put my mind at ease as my husband and son plan their trip. Staff and GM were very helpful and patient with our group, which did include mainly younger children. We took up most of the kitchen as we ordered pizza and dined indoors. Sorry to nearby guest if we were too loud. We were all just so happy to be together. We enjoyed time at the nearby lake watching the sun go down, swimming in the pool, playing in the hot tub, roasting marshmallows (which was generously provided by the hotel), and playing board games. Food was also easy to order and delicious. So convenient to be able to grab complimentary coffee with our breakfast, which was yummy. Yogurt bowl, with the berry compote was my fav. Overall my family really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again. Thank you Coachman staff!! Also thank you to Liz who coordinates group reservations! She is extremely helpful and kind. Would not have found this gem if not for her.

Coachman is divided into two sections with a street separating buildings 5-8 from the lobby and…read moreremaining buildings. The area around the lobby is beautiful, appearing newly renovated with working fire pits, a deck and pool area, bar and lobby area. If you are in a room on that side, there are plenty of amenities for you to enjoy. We were in building 7, a room across the street from the luxury of those conveniently located amenities. In absence of the amenities, it did offer quiet as there was not a lot of foot traffic or people on our side. There was a fire pit directly beneath our 2nd floor room; however, it did not work since it needs gas (per the staff). None of the fire pits on our side worked, we were later told they were for the community center by reservation. Check in was easy, the staff who assisted were pleasant and thorough. When we arrived to our room, the in person version did not look as upscale as the photos I based our booking on. The fact that there is a shared microwave should have been the biggest clue. There is no coffee maker, rather a kettle for hot water and packets of something to use. Checkout was simple as well. Amenities: The fridge was pretty spacious for being small and there were plenty of shelving for snacks. The hanging space had five hangers, which were located directly above the kettle. The toilet seat had 3 temps to warm your bottom and the water in the shower (and sink) got really hot so be careful. The mini balcony was nice to exist on and fairly quiet even with cars and people passing. The staff were friendly and have been accommodating with requests for room service. Heavenly Ski Resort was a 5-10 minute walk from this location along with a plethora of eateries and shops including Target, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Ace and other shops. All within walking distance inside the same shopping center. We will not return to Coachman Hotel for future stays. There are plenty of surrounding hotels near by. Our daughter did enjoy the balcony, the room was clean and well maintained. For us, we prefer accommodations with an actual coffee maker (as advertised), a microwave in the room and a more luxurious feel to our stay. The s'more hour was fun for our lil one to experience. Staff were exceptional so I would not discourage anyone to consider Coachman.
