This place began as a social club for, yes you guessed it 'the dockers' who worked and lived in or near the local Belfast docklands. It's still there today, a testament to the history of the area, and it's still a popular haunt with many, although it's not necessarily very commercial so if you're looking a young, hip, night of debauchery, I would go elsewhere. That is not to write the Dockers off, I've enjoyed quite a few nights here. It's what you would expect from a social club. It's not modern and swish, but it's friendly. You can go on a normal night to enjoy live music, musicians and entertainers, and they have the occasional tribute acts performing too. They also hire out the function rooms for parties and events. The bar staff are helpful and down-to-earth, really friendly - the atmosphere is always positive in here, not a fighting kind of place, and more popular with the older crowd. I also went to see a play here, "The Liverpool Boat" based on the lives of Belfast people emigrating out of the Island, it was very well done in the surroundings of the club, it made it very real as though you were part of the action - so a good venue for all sorts of events and occasions. read more
