They have a varied range of animals consisting of lots of types of birds from around the world, Prairie dogs, deer, Llamas and many more, to many to mention. They have a large area where you can go in and pet the animals within as well as the usual pens holding the other animals. There is a Falconry Centre, which is paid for separately (only if you want to hold and have your picture taken with one) as well as a hatchery, woodland walks, barbeque area and a massive playing area for the kids, indoor and outdoor. There is also a gift shop and cafe a lot of the produce being home made. When your there it feels like your on a large farm with amazing animals that are always friendly and looking for a bit of attention, you can even buy bags of food so as your trotting around the centre you are able to feed them as well. Entrance fee is £6 per adult and £4 per child; family tickets available, so it is excellent value for money and you could spend the whole day there. Staff are very friendly and always at hand to help or answer ant questions you may have. If you do have transport this is a brilliant day out for kids and adults and with ample free parking you wont miss out on a wonderful day. Sturdy footwear is advisable

I started at Dean Village, and walked through Dean Garden to the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. It was a nice alternative to walking the city streets or taking transport to the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, which was my destination. It took me just about an hour at an easy stroll with brief stops to take a few pictures. I sent a few of those pictures to some girlfriends and their comments were, "It's like you're in a storybook" and "Gorgeous, that can't be real." Take a look at the pictures and see if you agree. Or better yet, take a walk and see for yourself!

We went to Blair Drummond this Sunday, not for the first time, but for the first time in a while…read more We went without booking tickets, but ended up making an online booking standing in front of the gates. So, book! The weather was nice and that made sure we had a lovely day. The safari drive through was good, the individual displays nice. We finally saw the tiger (jumping down from a tree), the chimp viewpoint is a good addition and the lemar walkthrough always nice. We spent a very nice 4 hours.

My wife and friends and I were part of a group visit and there couldn't have been a nicer place. The approach to the castle is a really long canopied drive with views of a loch and Perthshire countryside. By the time you arrive to the castle, you already feel like you've stepped back in time. As stated in the name, you have access only to the Gardens and not to the actual castle itself. This of no consequence as you can easily get lost in the size and intricacies of the gardens for at least a couple of hours. There are statues, sculptured hedges (is that an accurate term?), plenty of flowers (obviously), a small loch, and even some peacocks wandering around... what more could you ask for? I would highly recommend the gardens as part of a day trip to Crieff. And as it is only a couple of miles from the town centre, there are plenty of cafes and shops nearby.

Most of these gardens are now downsized or just grass, but Drummond's is still there and is fantastic. It's beautiful, the colours. All year. It is only open April to October though. The only downside is that there is not a cafe there from which to enjoy the view. Entrance is about 4 quid. The castle is not open to the public except on one weekend a year.

This small and attractive 6 acre loch is in the hills a mile above Dunoon (beside the A885 Sandbank…read moreroad - free parking in a lay-by) and seems to be used mostly for freshwater fishing these days, although it's also nice just to sit on the banks! I very recently found out that my favourite pipe tune, 'Lochanside', which I've loved for many years, was named after this loch. It was written by Pipe Major John McLellan remembering his time spent along the attractive and secluded shores. McLellan (born 1875), a multi-talented man by all accounts, was from Dunoon. A pity the loch isn't shown on the Google map; however, I've added the arrow in exactly the right place.

We didn't know about this park though which is right across the street from the Abbey. And it's a wonderful park. There are several sights along the way, the small "Tower Burn" river goes across the park, there's a café, a playground and several trails leading you through woodland and open spaces. Some urban wildlife as well. A good number of pretty tame squirrels too. A nice place to spend some time in. Alone, with family, with your dog.... Really enjoyed it.

Pittencrief Park or as locals call it "The Glen" is a huge park in the heart of Dunfermline. The…read morepark was gifted to the town back in 1902 by Dunfermline's famous son, Andrew Carnegie, a philanthropist who made his millions in the States (think Carnegie hall in NYC). Before internet, reality TV and crime dramas people actually used to flock to the park on sunny days from across Scotland to spend in the 70 something acres of manicured lawns and gardens. It may not have the same draw today, but when the sun is shining it can still be really busy. Not only is 'The Glen' a wonderful park, but it has some other very interesting features such as Pittencrieff House Museum, the remains of the 11th Century King Malcolm Canmore's Tower, (when it was the royal residence of Malcolm and his queen, Margaret), greenhouses, woodland walks and a statue of the man himself, Andrew Carnegie. There are also fantastic views of Dunfermline Abbey and Palace from the gardens. The Glen Pavilion in the centre of the park holds many local events from gigs, to arts and craft fairs. The Pavilion is also where you can get a quick caffeine fix as here you will find the park's cafe. There are also 3 kiddies play parks, ideal if Mum and Dad fancy a wee break from entertaining the kids. Anyone who grew up in the area will have such fond memories of the park. It's still really easy to spend a good day here. There is also a great chance to see peacocks and squirrels, so take a bag of nuts for some close up fun of these cute little critters.

I CLIMBED A FREAKING MOUNTAIN!!!!…read more Ahem, I'm sorry, I'll restrain myself. Anyway, yes, I climbed an mountain and made it to one of the peaks. Not THE peak but up there. The Scotsman and I took the gondola ride for about 15 minutes at a nice pace up the side of the mountain. This is quite picturesque, through the trees, over the bike and walking trails and over several little streams. It's GORGEOUS. Finally when we disembarked, we were at the Ski lodge area. We looked about and took the path that led to the viewing point. It's a nice path, it meanders some what and gets quite steep. It's not EASY but it's not HARD either. If you're not at least some what accustomed to walking around and up things, don't try it. There are plenty of spots where you can rest and a lovely little cold stream running along the land. Out about 1000' from the trail is a memorial to someone who loved or lived there. May they rest in peace. Once you get to the top, the view is incredible, and there's a sense of accomplishment, or there was at least for me. My knee didn't give out and my friend surprised himself too!

Seriously, go climb this mountain. What awaits you at the top is worth it. The view is absolutely…read morebreathtaking. This summit provides a beautiful panoramic view of Edinburgh. Open 24/7, it's definitely worth a visit (maybe even more than once!)

I have hiked Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcano, a few times and it's not for the faint of heart…read more But if you want a challenging workout with fantastic views of Edinburgh as your reward, this is for you! There are a few different ways to make your way up to the top. For first timers, I would suggest taking the route near Holyrood Palace which, while not easy, is more gentle than the route near Pollock Halls. My first time up, I took the latter and ended up climbing up boulders - which felt a bit precarious. No matter which way you go up, bring lots of water and wear shoes with good traction. You will definitely feel like you accomplished something when you reach the top. And, as I mentioned, the views are spectacular! At the summit, I always make a point to touch both the white triangulation pillar and the bronze geographical indicator. On our most recent trip, it was April so the weather was perfect! The previous time, we hiked it in August when it was a little too warm and we were greeted by swarms of midges at the top!
