    Happy M.

My kids take two classes a week and this is what happens there. This is not a reputable business to become involved with. My children's baby sitter brought my kids to class one evening. One child is 6 and the other is 9, my baby sitter who is 15 years old walked the kids to class and during class an instructor there approached my child and baby sitter and said to them that "No one has ever received their bodan without attending Saturday class. The instructor informed my babysitter that my child should come to class this Saturday. (Extra classes COST EXTRA MONEY.) This is not the first time the folks at this establishment have mentioned more classes to us, but it crossed the line talking to my babysitter about a financially obligated issue, and tearing down the self esteem of my child as if he isn't good enough. I was at home when my babysitter texted me this information. I marched over to confront Marcia the owner, that her business practices were unacceptable and no Owner or instructor should be telling my children or my babysitter that the kids need extra classes to achieve goals. I asked her why she couldn't pick up the phone and call one of the parents privately and not in front of the children? Why would she speak to children and my babysitter that is 15 years old about more instruction? She said because a parent wasn't there. I ask her again, why she couldn't pick up a phone? This was the one occasion one of the parents wasn't there. They use psychological manipulation at this business and that is a misuse of power. The classes at DMW don't have enough instructors for the amount of children in each class. I have asked on several occasions for an instructor to watch my child do a form because no one was helping them and they were obviously struggling during class. I'm not bringing my child there to be pretending to learn martial arts. My child is there to actually learn. If they aren't helping my child during the regularly paid program,( 2 classes per week.) why am I going to pay more for an additional class of the same? This is not a club, It's a money maker. I will not allow brain washing of my children while this business try's to steal my money! Practice what you preach!

My two boys have been attending DMW for 3 years. Classes are over crowded and under staffed. The children are directly marketed to weekly to buy products and private classes. My children have been told in order to advance, they must sign up for Saturday extra classes. Why must extra classes be needed if a proper curriculum is taught and tracked for each student? The children are regularly encouraged to upgrade there equipment for additional costs. The bag of supplies we purchased "BBC" do include several weapons and protective gear but do not include any hand protection. My boys keep asking me for hand pads or gloves to help avoid blisters and scratches. The Bi weekly classes are primarily taught by older students rather than the two owners "Marcia and Dan" who sit at the end of the gym. Occasionally they chime in, or close out the class in time to hand out candy and large cookies right before dinner at 6pm. My boys enjoy the gathering of neighborhood children and being active in the winter out of the rain. The owner Marcia told me that my youngest child and children his age "6" have little control of their bodies and retain little of the forms taught. So I ask why do you move them up in belt testings? Her response was self esteem and the feeling of accomplishment. If you ask me I believe the only accomplishment is the ever growing bank accounts of Mrs. Marcia and instructor Dan. When my children express interest to start another after school activity in DMWs place I will gladly make a change.

    Open practice before belt testing.

Awesome place! I've…read morebeen part of Kung Fu Club Fall City for four years now, and joining this school has truly been one of the best decisions for me and my kids. I train alongside my 14‑year‑old son, and my daughter trained here for three years before heading off to college. The consistency, quality, and genuine care that Sifu Johann Sasynuik brings to every class are exceptional. This school is far beyond the scope of a typical martial arts studio or any commercial training program. It's a place where you learn effective self‑defense, develop a deep understanding of structure and movement, build leadership skills, and practice qi gong meditation that meaningfully enhances both physical and mental well‑being. Sifu Johann Sasynuik is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and fully committed to helping each student grow at their own pace. I originally joined because I started gaining weight and feeling slower in my daily life. A friend recommended this school, and at first I wondered why I should try a Kung Fu program. It turned out to be exactly what I needed. Within a year, I lost most of the extra weight I had gained over the years in a healthy, sustainable way. I became more active, more confident, and even started sleeping deeply more often. Watching my kids train here has been just as rewarding. They've developed discipline, focus, and resilience that carry over into school and everyday life. If you're looking for a place that offers authentic training, a supportive community, and real personal transformation, Kung Fu Club Fall City is the place to be in. If you're even a little curious, drop in and check out The Kung Fu Club. You won't regret it.

Sifu Johann is a great teacher, and you will find that you will learn just as much from the other students there too. I have made friends for life, as did my children who also trained with me there. You will learn practical skills that are extremely effective should you ever need to use them. Plus, it has a great family atmosphere for all ages with none of the 'tough guy' attitudes that are often prevalent with other martial arts studios. The pricing is also extremely competitive. My best advice is to go try it out and see if you like it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving it a go!

Phantom BJJ is the place I picked my love of jiujitsu back up again and it was a blessing I decided…read moreto go. However, I did leave for a reason. For those who don't know, Jiujitsu is an art of self defense that is definitely more practical for real-life situations. It involves fighting from the ground, taking people down, and actually doing submissions such as arm bars or chokes. It's similar to wrestling, but not quite as intense. The environment: Phantom has a mediumish sized gym, and honestly it's enough. The kids class tended to be extremely crowded and it was a push for space sometimes, though. There is a lobby as well, two dressing rooms, two bathrooms, and a cubby area to stash your things. The staff: The coaches are literally some of the most amazing people I've ever met. They're encouraging, practical, and care a lot about each person who steps foot into Phantom. However, after I quit (partly because of health issues, partly because they no longer had a womens class), the main coach sent degrading comments that were extremely rude and unprofessional to try to guilt me back into going to jiujitsu. It may have come from a caring place, but I am extremely offended - I stopped going to Phantom mostly because there was no womens class, and therefore no class I felt comfortable in. Another thing I didn't like was that the coaches often favored the male fighters. It took a friend of mine over three years to get her blue belt and the coach still complained about her missing classes (the only ones she missed were because of womens issues she couldn't help). Meanwhile, the boys are often given more credit, recognition, and belt promotions. Though I was at the same skill level as many of them, I watched them get promoted while I and many of my female friends were looked over. Here, I'll throw out a shoutout to one of the most amazing female coaches there: Simone, who has definitely been overlooked a lot and overcome a lot. She ran women's classes until they were shut down and was extremely supportive and always so kind! Classes: Last I went, they didn't have a womens' class, which is definitely a downside and the reason I quit. Jiujitsu is a very physical sport and as a woman, I will not fight with men. They used to have the womens' program, but ended up shutting it down with no explanation. They do have an adults class, kids class, and pandas class (the really little kids class!). They're open every day of the week, with different varieties of classes (gi or no gi, and a striking class for the kids). Competing opportunities: Phantom competes in two main Washington state tournaments: The Revolution (at the Puyallup Fair grounds) and Proving Grounds (at Green River). They have competition classes for both the kids and adults interested in competing or already regularly competing. Final thoughts: I'd recommend Phantom to anyone who's interested in starting jiujitsu, wants to get back into doing it, or is a seasoned fighter already. The community there is incredible. However, I would not recommend Phantom to any women because there is no women's program and the coaches often favor the males who go there. A lot of women who go there don't get enough credit or recognition for their strength and skill.

Contact the owners through Facebook and they were helpful and informative. For an women getting…read moreinto the sport I choose this place because they have a women's class on Tuesday and Thursday from about 7-9pm - Shannon is an excellent instructor but there are other instructors that help that are awesome! I saw this place being recommended by many of the local moms in the Maple Valley/Covington Mom group on facebook, so I checked out their website and found that Han Mu Do incorporates Aikido/Hapkido in their teaching! I contacted Washington Han Mu Do for my son to attend the trial class. My son loved the trial class, and he wanted to continue (He is one of the most undecisive kid on this earth, and him wanting to continue is a big deal). It's been almost 2 months since he started, and he loves the classes. The environment is very family friendly and they teach the kids respect and discipline in addition to martial arts (which my son needs badly). Their prime location is also what sealed the deal for us. They are located within close distance from the local elementary schools, which makes it convenient to take my son to the class after picking him up from the after school program. In the same center, there is Taco Time and McDonalds just across the street for easy dinner after the class.

Not so great if you want a mix of the physical and mental, yin and yang, contrary to the yin-yang symbol incorporate into their logo. While Han Mu Do is a good form of martial arts, the Maple Valley location is the only location in Washington State. You will likely start over if you leave. With only a few licensed instructors, mature students are often relied upon heavily to lead lower students and classes. Favorites are compensated, others are not. As a result, the schedule is not reliable due to leader availability. Unlike Washington Han Mu Do, other martial arts studios often include some aspects of Asian philosophy, such as an active focus on the balance between mind and body, meditation as part of the session, and understanding that spirit and body need to be in harmony. This studio is about forms, sets, and workouts. Repeat. Overall, a good cost to experience ratio when compared to a gym or other exercise place. But is that really what you wanted to do when you join a martial arts studio?
