After two weeks, we're running the AC at a full 2 degrees warmer than we used to and are still as comfortable as can be! On top of that, the unit is only running 9-12 hours a day! And that's in the Florida summer! We even added a supply and return for the enclosed Florida room on the west side to keep the temperature in there reasonable. Everything went so smoothly! The technician arrived, and I mentioned that the bedroom is always a few degrees warmer than the rest of the condo. He went outside, came back in a few minutes and told me that there must be a blockage in the ducting, and I needed a whole new unit, which would be 10-12K. I was astonished, because I own a number of properties, and it has never cost anywhere near that for an 800 sq ft. condo! I said I didn't want to spend that kind of money right now, and I'd jst purchase a home warranty on the property, which I had planned to do anyway. That way when the AC stopped working they would repair or replace it. He stepped outside, then came in and said his boss wanted to talk to me. The "boss" got on the phone and told me very severely that my unit needed replacing. I told him "No thank you. I don't wish to spend this amount at this time." He then said, "My technician told me that you are planning to buy a home warranty. That is insurance fraud, which I don't suggest doing in the state of Florida. EXCUSE ME?????? I told him that since the unit is functioning - if I purchase a home warranty there is no fraud taking place. This unit could run another year, 2 years, 10 years! It is not acting any differently than when I purchased the unit and had a home inspector check it out! His response was, " NO! It is broken and you need to get a new unit NOW!" When a company puts on the full court press like this, it is definitely a scam. They feel that if they scare a woman into believing them, we will buy what they are selling. I'm sure they looked up the ownership, saw it was in my name and figured they'd take advantage of a widow or single woman. I would avoid this company AT ALL COSTS!
