I went 7 different martial locations through SFV and they all have the same carefree script plus exact crazy monthly pricing. After reading reviews I finally found Master Sam and his team at FKMA and automatically feel in love with how everything was ran. First day walking in I had an hour conversation with Giovanni in his office not even talking about martial arts .. more about Giovanni's past, present and where he would like to go in the future!!! His approach is amazing he wants your child to flourish inside and outside his classes with grades, family and friends just life in general. Shit! After the first day I walked out learning something as a parent ..he really is a awesome man.... now to his kick ass staff! Minutes later, I was so sad when he came running out to me in tears. After the class, Master Park worked with him one on one to get him comfortable and confidant. This happened again. I chose this studio because of a referral from my best friend who's kids compete in tournaments. While my son is slower and less athletic than the other kids his motivation is to keep getting the next level up. I like how the coaches know the kids by name and take the time to instruct with demonstrations and watching them closely while they grapple. I tell my son he doesn't need to win, just keep trying. After a year and a half we are still here twice a week trying our best. He's about to earn his grey and white belt and I'm proud so of him. I eventually found Kyu Martial Arts and it was definitely a game changer for me. Kyu Martial Arts is great for getting in shape and (very important) to learn Taekwondo (martial arts style). Master Lee pushes his students to do their best. Each class is very physical, demanding, and very engaging. The big key here is that Master Lee will get in your face and make sure you're really trying. Believe me when I say it is beyond awesome and motivational. The class is doing different work-outs each night while we focus on fighting and defense techniques. It motivates people to practice, it encourages learning from mistakes, it builds patience and resilience. I love we can practice with any ranks. Black belts get better when they can break down moves at different levels based on individuals level. It shows knowledge and understanding. Those without black belts get to learn directly with black belts to ensure accuracy and expose to variations and styles. I also appreciate the beliefs Aikido brings into the dojo, especially if dojo practices and teaches each member to take care of the dojo. Lastly, I have visited many different dojos and styles, the one thing I am looking for is the ability practice even if I am in my 80s, if it cannot support me while I am aging, then it is not a style that considers life seriously nor long term. If you see a dojo that has people from all ages and walk of life, something to take note. People are serious and it's doable.
