First come, first serve but they play favorites. I have been coming to this barbershop for over a year since moving to San Jose and they get my requests right about 30% of the time. Before coming here I had a pretty good mid-fade with medium length hair on top and short on the side. After requesting for a mid fade, I ended up with an undercut so that's that. Ever since, I would ask for a low fade knowing they cut higher than expected. Only keep coming back because their prices are great but it's a mixed bag. Sometimes I get an amazing hair cut, sometimes I have to go back 30 minutes later because the barber didn't blend my sides and I can clearly see the line when she changed guards. Overall, it's okay. Kind of forced me to write this review because I went in, five minutes later, two guys arrive and the only available barber serviced them first. They acted a bit surprised to go first so I'm assuming they didn't actually call ahead and reserve. read more

I was doing errands Friday night and being stuck in traffic from Palo Alto to Milpitas I forgot I needed a darn haircut. So after I picked up my new spectacles at the Great Mall, I sat in the parking lot looking for a Haircut Shop that was not going to close at 7PM. Nearest one was DK Salon. So I hopped onto 680 south and proceeded to my destination. Upon arriving at the shop the front parking was filled so I parked on the side and walked in. Place is large but wasn't filled with customers mainly due to the fact that it was 7:30PM. Kim tended to my haircut needs and understood what I needed. There were no mistakes from her and she is gentle as caring as she looks. Her shampoo and scalp massage was very relaxing and I nearly fell asleep. I'll definitely be back in 2 weeks. I like to keep my hair semi short (#4 on the sides with trim and texture on the top). They will cut small portion of your head and ask you if it's the right length you want. Place is kept very clean and space is very large. Employees are very friendly and talk about travels and beauties in life. WARNING: This is not a place for men to go styling. Great place if you want your hair done, waxing, facials, etc. for quality work for unbeatable prices. The store is really beautiful inside and the atmosphere is so up beat, and they play some pretty good music. I come here all the time to get everything done. Wow! This place saved my life! Needed a haircut ASAP for a special event and my regular barber was not working so I had to yelp a nearby place with good reviews and came upon this. Now I came in and was welcomed by all of the employees and they asked if i needed a haircut so I went to some random lady. i was kind of reluctant because it's usually the not-so-great person that grabs a new customer but after explaining what I want, the lady acted like she knew what I wanted. My vietnamese is non-existant so I explained everything in mostly english and hand gestures. If i had her name, I would definitely would have mentioned it! She proceeded with my sides and confirmed with me how short I wanted, and how high i wanted the fade. I usually get a faux hawk from my regular barber in milpitas but I had no time to drive out there, but going here saved me about 10 bucks than what I usually pay for !! I hate to give bad reviews to places that aren't really bad, but after being on the fence as to adjusting the rating downward, I finally moved it to three stars. For a really simple, by-the-numbers cut, this place is a 4-star. For anyone who requires more of a style, then it's a 3-star. It's like the difference between hair salons and barbers: one gives you a simple cut while the other gives you a fancy style. (That's the way it's *supposed* to be, anyway.) After looking at my 2-year-old's hair for a couple of days, I realize that it just got hacked. It's like three different haircuts, and they don't work together. My little kid really needs a stylist for his kind of hair. The other kids can use the by-the-numbers cuts. Now, I am judging the place one the one person that cut his hair, too. Astounded.. my hair cut was done by Jenny.. and it was quite amazing compared to the million other haircuts i have gotten in my lifetime. Highlights: 1. she finished me off with a razor.. I don't know what the girls name is that cut my hair but I'm not happy. The cut itself was average. Definitely not a $18 hair cut, which is how much it costs for a women's hair cut here. When she was done with my cut she asked me if I wanted her to curl my hair. Sure why not? When I gave her my debit, I saw that I was charged $25.50. I was pretty pissed. I asked he why I was charged so much. She said the cut is $18, cut and curl is $25. I guess 50¢ charge for debit/credit? She didn't tell me it was an extra charge for the curl. LOVE DK SALON. My hair is really hard to tame (anyone can vouch for this). Thank goodness for someone to keep my weave under control! I've had such different experiences every time I come to this salon, some good and some bad so it averages out to about three stars. My first experience was highlights. I'm not sure what happened, but the color that came out was not the color I chose. I wanted a deep burgundy kind of red, but it turned out candy apple little mermaid red. Came back the next day to fix it and they couldn't admit that it was their fault. They ended up dyeing my hair a brown color to drown out the red which resulted in a good brunette which red undertones. I was happy with it so I couldn't complain too much, except everything ended up costing me around $220...that's an arm and a leg! I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so I came back a second time for a trim and another color. This time, I chose an auburn copper tone which turned out beautifully. The cut was fine and the lady who did my hair was really nice. This was a good redeeming experience for me. The only thing is that I think I get overcharged. I feel like this salon doesn't have a set price for services, the owner kind of makes up a number for how much she wants to charge and you either agree or you don't. I have been coming here since 2007. It doesn't matter where I am in the BayArea I will always make the drive to visit my friends at DK Salon in the East of San Jose. The owner usually cuts my hair or her station neighbor, they have cut my hair in so many different styles from my top knot days to my high and low fades, i mean its been a ten year relationship I don't plan to end anytime soon. This is 100% my favorite place to get my hair cut because prices is $8 for men and they always get it right! They offer waxing, dye, manicures and an awesome quick neck massage after every hair cut. Definitely recommend this place even if you have to make the drive like I do, 30 minutes now a days but its worth it! They have Vietnamese novelas on sometimes or music and they are really friendly and talkative ladies. Oh and they sell hair related products as well. So many reasons to visit DK Salon in San Jose! I love this place. And it's not because my friend's mother owns this store either. I've came here for multiple occasions. The first, was to highlight my hair. And even though my hair wasn't naturally black, the stylist tried her best to get it to platinum . It's difficult to pull platinum out of straight black hair. And she came pretty close. It didn't matter though, it still looked nice. Second time was prom, It was a simple HALF-DO, but it was reallllyy cute. It's stayed up alll day. Third, i took my sister here for a haircut, and it turned out better than our old hair stylist! So when i needed a haircut, i tried here also. Not to mention, this store comes with a good price. We've both had several cuts and also the Japanese Straight Perms. He used to cut celebrity stylists hair in Vietnam. The only thing I was disappointed in is that I still had quite a lot of split ends after the cut. I am happy with my hair-cut, it was cut a little too short, but I will return for future trims. I just have to be persistent about what I want and watch carefully. A good decent price for the job done, she gave me fresh layers which was nice, although I didn't ask for it. She also gave me advice on how to maintain the health of my hair when using heating products. One down-side is that out of the two times I've been here they do try to push other products or services on you, but for the prices and quality it's something I can overlook.
