Not impressed. Had an electrical issue with a truck that I'd communicated specifics about in advance to them and they scheduled me with their oil change tech instead of one a journey-level mechanic and had no near-term appt I could get in to to see one of their experienced mechanics. They did address a minor other issue (removing a front hitch) I'd told them about at no charge and I want to acknowledge that but it was a distant second to the priority work. The next week I had a subsequent appointment to have an issue on a separate car fixed and they hadn't been able to track down the part that entire day. I'd been specific about what it needed in advance. All in all. I didn't feel listened to when I described what I needed, and two days were wasted. I did find the staff there to be courteous and professional in all instances. However, I wanted to try this place out just in case I needed something fixed and my longtime preferred mechanic wasn't available, and I won't be going back. read more

Came in for brake repair and two days later they had replaced one sensor which didn't fix ANYTHING, but cost almost $450.00. Three days after that they hadn't even started the brake repair I initially asked for. Stay away from these guys!!! read more

Brought in my truck to have it checked over. No problems but always keep my truck in good running order. Well they claimed it needed a new gasket. So had them do work. I paid and left. Within 5 miles the engine started smoking. Opened hood and saw a hugh crack where they had put new gasket. They torked...the cover so tight it broke the metal cover. Called and was told to bring back as they didn't believe the cover was cracked where the bolts had been torked..to much. Even had to send pictures before I left to drive back. Turns out the kid who fixed my truck had ruined other vehicles as the head employee told me. Got it fixed and wasn't charged anything. BUT then I started to have other major problems within a few days. So it seems my perfectly running truck was fine until I brought it to DJs. Will never go back there. Inexperienced young help is what they now hire. read more

First review. I am happy with my overall experience with DJ's automotive. They replaced a new fuel pump and fuel filter in my 2002 Chevy S10 truck. Update: This is the 3rd time within roughly 2 months since Sept 2022, DJ's automotive had to replace and fix a part. Started off with breaking down on the highway, no start and only crank, with no check engine light. I have it towed to there shop and wait a couple days later, they tell me it needs a new fuel pump and fuel filter. I told them I had one installed in July 2018. I get that it's possible the fuel pump died. They said the fuel pressure was not where it should be at and was to low. This bill was just over $1000. A couple days pass of driving and my truck stalls on the same road. So I waited a few minutes and then it started up. I drove it back to DJ's the same day to have it looked at. I waited a couple of days with my truck at DJ's. They call and tell me it's the ignition coil and found some tampered wiring that needed to be repaired. This part being the original when the truck was new. They fixed it for around $260. Seems odd at this point as to why they didn't recognize the ignition coil and wiring was bad. I question if I really needed the fuel pump and fuel filter replaced in the first place. Then this week of Oct. 2022 I leave work and my truck runs fine. I stop at Safeway and come back out to my truck to start and no power, nothing on the dash, no crank, and the needles on the guages dropped lower than the normal position. Couldn't lock my truck at this point. So another tow to DJ's and 3 days later as of Oct 22nd I get a bill for $241.50 for a faulty distributor. DJ's found a loose negative battery terminal they tightened and cleaned. They checked the ignition timing and found it set at -14 degrees. Adjusted and would only go to -11. Pulled distributor and set is 1 tooth over. Set ignition timing to -6 and should be at 0 and couldn't get it to zero is what DJ's told me. Distributor be to worn for proper adjustment. The guy at DJ's said hope it didn't stretch the timing chain. That if I had any issues to bring it in. There was no call to tell me if I wanted the distributor replaced. Nope just rigged the original one and charged labor of $241.50. Mind you this 2002 Chevy S10 truck has just over 80k original miles. I understand and am ok with paying a business for there work, but a new distributor is around $150 on avg at any part store, plus labor would have been a better deal overall than to just tinker with the original distributor and not get the timing right. So if you want to dump lots of money at guessing what part needs to be fixed, DJ's automotive is the place to go! I was patient and nice to this business the whole time. Why I took it to them a 3rd time was thinking a part was faulty or installed incorrectly. Lesson learned on my part. My future business will be taken elsewhere.​ read more

Took car in for broken AC. Found out DJ over charges for parts. Quoted me for $490 for an AC compressor for 2009 Aveo. Brand name Murray for the part. Checking O'reilly in town, O'reilly quoted $200-300 for the same Murray AC compressor, price range difference was due to 3 or 4 tabs on compressor. After confronting DJ's with these prices from O'Reilly, DJ's still would not bring the part down to a reasonable price. (DJ's did offer to lower the part for $475 instead of $490). Calling to a different auto shop blocks away from DJ...The other auto shop said the part would be around $300 for the exact same Murray brand ! I decided to take the car back from DJ's without having Dj's fix anything. To make matters worse, the car battery was completely dead. Not just low battery, but completely dead. DJ's said "You need to replace the battery because the battery is 7 years old". Batteries DO NOT go completely dead if the batter is old, batteries do not provide as much amps from getting old...NOT getting dead all the sudden as in a black and white situation. DJ's did something wrong (such as leaving keys in car for 24 hours, or they intentionally drained the battery) Not a respectable auto shop. Would not recommend DJ's for any service. read more

Mixed feelings about my recent repair. Had a radiator hose leak on the way in to work. Temps were -15 and I was in desperate need of a quick fix. Had car towed to DJ's. They were very accommodating and did get it working that day... however the labor charged worked out to about $150 per hour. It looked like I was double billed for something so I called and they refused to make it right. So if you don't mind pay double for your auto repairs at least they are nice to deal with. read more

Kudos to DJ's Automotive in Helena! My husband was in meetings in Helena today. He was heading up McDonald Pass driving home to the Flathead when his engine light came on and the engine started sputtering. He called me and I called DJ's in Helena because I took my Honda Civic there a few years ago when it overheated going up McDonald Pass. I called at 4:10 p.m. Not only were the folks at DJ's willing to look at his Subaru today, they immediately diagnosed and fixed the problem and got him back on the road by 5:30 p.m. (and it didn't cost much either!). What a relief. My husband had to be back in the Flathead for a very early meeting tomorrow morning. DJ's saved the day. Thank you! read more

These guys are great! When I found out my "new to me" Outback needed a head gasket replacement, I was bummed- especially because I had brought it to a different shop in town for a full tune up just a month before and they didn't mention any problems at all, big or small. DJs' staff was honest about what needed to be done and the price + wait time (dealership quoted the same), and they're obviously very knowledgeable about Subarus. They called the day after I picked it up to see how it was doing, and encouraged me to come back in or call them if anything seemed off. I wish I'd saved myself the $120 tune up and brought my car to DJs in the first place, but I'm happy I went to them the second time and trusted them with a pretty serious repair. read more

I began going to DJs when the garage was on a little dirt road off Last Chance Gulch way back when. These folks are honest and will tell you up front if your vehicle needs work or it doesn't; what the work will cost approximately; they'll explain what's going on in words you can understand without talking down 'because you're female and wouldn't understand'; and you can trust their judgment. Because I'm on the road a lot they always, always check the vehicle everywhere when it's in for an oil change and let me know of potential problems or if everything is ok. I know a garage is supposed to do that, but they really do. Bottom line, actually, is they do everything they say they will do and not charge you an exorbitant amount for it. I went to this shop for about 20 years. You could count good work, a fair price, and honesty. Now they are like most of everyone else. Charge as much as possible to do as little as possible. I would not recommend. read more
