Since I gotta pay out of pocket for massage now, I thought I'd try Chinatown and see how it stands…read moreup against the rmt I've had over the years. I'm no expert but this was possibly shiatsu, although they told me this was Chinese massage, and it was different from the usual rmt in that they press on points as well as the usual moves. I was super happy with the service and value. Also the amount of effort she put into the job. I asked for 45 minutes which is $50 cash and seems a fairly standard price in Chinatown. The pace was much faster than I'm used to and it seemed that I almost got the usual 90 minutes worth in 45. Of course it's not the same, but quite impressive amount of work over the 45 minutes with no downtime or inefficiency. The room was small, clean and quiet, although I went in the evening when it wasn't busy. There was soft Chinese folk guitar twanging playing quietly in the room and the lighting was nice. The white disposable sheet on the table was great. I met two ladies when I went in, and it seemed like they were the only ones there. One was better at English. The one that massaged spoke only Chinese with rudimentary "ok" in English which was fine and I appreciated not wanting to talk. She ended up using the hot towels on my back which felt heavenly. I tipped $20 since that was all I had on my, but felt worth it compared to the usual $156 bill at the clinic with no tip. I'll be back and felt fantastic on the walk home and the next day.

The massage was so good, and Anton was very experienced and diligent. I checked in, and was treated to water or tea. After filling in a consent form, I was led to the massage quarter by Anton. It was a mattress on the ground with some pillows, with some see through curtains offering limited privacy. There were dimmed and colourful lights, with some groovy exotic background music. I was given a T-shirt and some loose drawstring pants to change, and then Anton walked me through the process. He told me to relax all my muscles - to not resist nor help him in my movements - and that he'd start from the bottom and move upwards. The massage lasted for an hour, and it was the right balance of intensity and comfort. Some parts were of stronger pressure, but when the massage ended, I was so relaxed that I was near asleep! I loved the experience, and will definitely return!

Some parts of the massage hurt like when she used her fingers and toes to lessen the tension in my back and neck but nothing was unbearable. She focused on my back, shoulders, and legs. The deep tissue massages through my sore muscles was very much needed! I particularly enjoyed when she'd distribute her body weight by stepping on my back and legs. If you've never had someone step on your back, here's a place you can try it! Sandy also used Thai oil and it made my skin feel and smell amazing. I love how comfortable the room was with great smells, a comfortable massage surface, and really relaxing music. In addition for massages, I prefer if there's minimal talking and we didn't speak at all which was a bonus. I was so relaxed I drooled and was drifting to sleep! Note: no registered massage therapists available here and you can get a discount if you pay with cash. I would certainly return.

But I do not mind it, because I focus on massage itself than luxurious embellishments which is not relevant for me as long as I have good, to-the-point deep tissue massage. I was here on a weekday few weeks ago, around 2pm. Getting appointment was easier than other reflexology places, as many places want advanced bookings. I asked for a package with body massage and reflexology here. It started with body massage - I expected deep tissue massage but it felt just gentle rubbing with slow kneading. So, I said to the masseur that I prefer more pressure - then in a few seconds, without any words, she started to apply pressures that were too strong to the point where I had to stop. I would say it was violent. I may be wrong, but I felt that she was upset by my asking for more pressure. It was too strong and later when I went home, I found bruise on the shoulder. I had to apply muscle pain relief ointment for a few days. And reflexology - I expected targeted pressure to specific points on the back of the feet, but the masseur kept rubbing my calf and instep. Again, I asked for pressure to the sole of my feet. She did not target pressure to the points - just rubbed harder on my sole a few minutes. Then she was back to gentle rubbing on my calf and instep. After the massage, she brought hot towel to wrap my feet to finish up, which was VERY hot. After this process, she threw the towels onto the floor, and left, that was it. I felt harmed rather than relaxed. And felt miserable. Probably, I had a bad luck, because many people review this place positively. But I just wanted to leave this review as there may be a gap between like-minded customers' expectations and what they can actually offer.

When a RMT is done right for myself, I notice that I feel stuffed up like I'm getting a cold, which is not what happens with Shiatsu massage, but it's still an incredibly valuable therapy. Turning the corner going north a half a block on Huron, I found Lemon Holistic, in this little out-of-the-way strip of businesses off the main drag, along with a couple interesting restaurants. Lemon Holistic is at 75 Huron, which is on the east side of the street and down in the basement. Walking in and getting greeted, this spot seems to be super casual. I was led around the corner for the reflexology therapy and the chair was a basic low back recliner, nothing special. But omg, the woman, named Ella, was super talented at reflexology and I was glad that I opted, for the first time, to get the 60 minutes. It was pure heaven. The body massage after that was of high quality as well and, even though I didn't look at the clock, it seemed like I received plenty of time for my money, which was $90 plus tip. Great spot that's slightly hidden away, if you want somewhere a little more peaceful, and don't we all!

I was looking for a last minute place to have a massage to use up the rest of my benefits this year and stumbled upon Amaze Wellness. After reading the reviews I decided to give them a try. Appointments can be booked online and you will need a credit card to confirm your reservation. I opted for a 75min deep tissue massage. Day of massage, I was a bit skeptical at first due to the storefront of the massage place. They are located on the 2nd floor where you do have to take off your shoes upon entering. Never judge a book by its cover because as soon as I entered I was greeted by Nitchapatr who ushered me into a massage room. She gave me some hand sanitizer to use and left me alone to change out of my clothes. During the full body deep tissue massage Nitchapatr worked on some deep knots I had in my shoulder the most. She made sure that I was comfortable with the pressure throughout but knew that I was feeling some pain from my shoulder knots. She even offered to put Tiger Balm on me to make sure I was more comfortable. After the massage I quickly put back on my clothes and went out to pay. I was offered some Thai tea. Nitchapatr and I made small talk and she commented that I should likely come back for more treatments as my shoulder knots were quite deep. My body definitely felt the effects of the deep tissue massage. I felt tired afterwards but did feel great and had a good night of rest. Overall, great massage place, they definitely know their stuff and will treat whatever pain you are experiencing. Service was friendly and I did see that before and after my massage there were other people receiving services as well.

There weren't enough signs outside to show where to go so I got a little confused getting into the plaza. Once I arrived, the person at the front desk was nice and I signed the waiver/form since it was my first time going in for the service. Five minutes later, a massage therapist came out to greet me. The entire massage was good but not really relaxing as the massage therapist, Veronica, was a bit rough on my shoulders and back. But I guess I was just really stiff that day. I am really glad that she didn't talk to me at all throughout the massage as other places would continually ask me questions and I would have to stop her from asking. Overall, it was a good experience. It is quite expensive in my opinion ($95+tax). They do provide RMT receipts so it would be great if you want to claim some of the benefits.
