This liquor store is new but is wonderful! I was a little timid at first because the location wasn't ideal but it was so clean and very nice inside! The staff offered to help me find what I was looking for. They didn't have local wines, which is what I went for, but they did say they would order some. The staff here is incredibly helpful. I went in looking for a wine gift for someone and was able to purchase two bottles from a selection they thought the recipient would like and they were right! She loved them! I also love the lay out of the store. There's so much to look at, lots of variety that you don't get in a typical liquor store. I would not recommend this place. After my family owning a liquor store I come to believe I know what it takes and if you don't compare with prices you have to at least make the people building your dream to at least feel appreciated for being loyal customers. In the last month I've spent an un godly amount learning to become a local Sommelier. After giving him multiple chances the owner is not very friendly and there are better stores out there. read more

I went in here today while on the phone. I wasn't talking, just had it to my ear. I walked in and spoke to the large bearded guy behind the counter, "hey how's it going?" I didn't wait for a reply and walked straight to the beer case. I grabbed my 12 pack of Coors Light and went to the front to check out - mind you, still holding the phone to my ear. The guy rang me up, I handed him my card, and he asked if I wanted a receipt. My reply, "nope." At this point, all is good. Then he looks at me and says loudly, "SORRY TO INTERRUPT YOUR CALL." As if he was saying it loud enough for the other person to hear. I turned around and looked at him perplexed. I said, "You didn't, have a nice day." He gives me this look as to say, "really?" and goes "Pssshhhhh." Please, large bearded man take this as an apology. I'm sorry that it bothered you so much that I was on the phone. I'm sorry I didn't immediately recognize your neediness and drive to have an emotional connection to me during the 2 minutes I was in your store. I'm sorry that you felt you had to be a complete ass to me after spending money in your store. If I ever return (which is going to be a pretty cold day in Hell) I will make sure to ask you a thousand questions and engage you in such a deep personal way that you are going to fall in love in with me. We drove from Liberty, MO to pickup a case of Not Your Fathers' Rootbeer, as Roeland Park Liquors is one of many locations in Kansas that carries this product. Walked in the door, and there were several cases in the front by the registers. We grabbed a full case, and got in a short line to the register. The clerk behind the register informed us that they were limiting purchases to 2 six packs/person. No sign, no indication from anything that we saw that there would be a limit. Since it was my wife and I together, we said fine, we'll buy two six packs each. The clerk then said, "come on, be fair...". So exactly what does that mean? I have money in hand, ready to buy product that you have for sale, and you choose to hedge that enough people will come in to buy this product? If it is that popular, why wouldn't you use the fact that you are selling out to leverage the distributor for more supply? Keep in mind, there are MANY other stores that sell the product, this just happened to be the closest to where we were at that moment. We were dumbfounded that we couldn't buy what we wanted, and at that point, I would not have spent my money there regardless of the circumstances. I told the clerk that was fine, we would just go to Rimann Liquors which was about 3.5 miles from this store. He said go ahead, you'll pay more. So congratulations for limiting the revenue of the store due to some need to control the supply and demand of product made readily available to the public. Just as an FYI to the store clerk, we did not pay one cent more than the price that you had posted, and have found a location in Kansas that we would happily frequent to spend the money that you apparently did not want. We can guarantee that we will NEVER spend one thin dime in this establishment, and would encourage others to do the same. As you can see from other reviews, if you are looking for exemplary customer service and a great place to frequent, stay away from this place and do yourself a favor and drive to Rimann Liquors over off of 71st and Mission Rd. read more

The parking lot is enough to make me want to stab someone. In the eye. People are rude and pushy. It is in that back part of the same parent lot the dreaded Wal Mart parking lot is located. You get backed into a corner. Literally. And I have had more than one car bump me. While I was not moving. IN a spot. And I don't come here that often. My visits to liquor stores are pretty much exclusively for wine, which, they have a decent selection of, but their prices are a little higher than other KS stores. I'd say $2 higher a bottle, even, than another store down the way. I understand supporting the little guy. Perhaps if they expanded their lot or added another exit, I might just be inclined to do so more frequently. read more

Careful...you could get locked in. To start, the worst part about this store is the parking lot. Its located by a Wal-Mart and I only go there if its on my way. I dread that cursed lot. They usually have bargains and some gift packages right when you walk in. Unfortunately the way they set it up it kind of looks like left over stock that wasn't put away. They don't have a large variety of beers, mostly just domestics. There liquor and wine selection isn't great and their prices are moderate. The party store in front has cigars (in a worthless humidor), mixers, and other accessories. I highly recommend staying away from the cigars! I've got a couple from there and they were terrible. They were dry and disintegrated in my hands. I should have known better, buying one from a plexiglass humidor, but I had a couple of late night cravings. As for service. I don't know what their policy is, but leaving and locking someone inside is probably not one of them. My wife came home one day and said she had been locked in. I asked her what happened and she told me that she was just looking around, went up to pay, and no one was there. She stood around at the counter for a few minutes and decided to leave. When she pushed on the door she was surprised to find it was locked! Luckily, she could unlock it from the inside. Personally, I would have just walked out with what I wanted. But my wife being the good samaritan and all, just put the liquor on the counter and left. read more

This is our local liquor store. I normally wouldn't review a liquor store but I feel like some of the other reviews have been unfair. Yes, the parking is terrible, but the store doesn't have anything to do with that; it is the people who own the shopping center issue. The selection has always been decent given the size limitations of the store. Yes they do limit some special buys but that is because they have loyal clientele who they want to also give an opportunity to. I've never had trouble getting any special release items from them. Finally, the staff have always been friendly and helpful to me. They often will make suggestions or ask if they can help in any way; maybe because I don't come in there with an attitude? Regardless, it is a good store and I will continue to support them since they are in my neighborhood! read more

I like this place. A lot. I agree their wine prices for the good stuff are a little high, but their selection of craft beer is excellent for such a small shop and their prices on most everything except wine are quite good. Better than most even. At least for what I regularly buy. Plus because the parking lot is so terrible, they never seem to be busy. And the guys working there are knowledgeable and not rude. If I ask a question they always know the answer and help me as much as they can. They're nice to my kids too when I can't avoid bringing them with me. We have been going to this liquor store since moving to RP a little over 3 years ago. They have expanded their selection of craft brews since then and seem to be open when other liquor stores are closed, i.e. Labor Day, and will special-order (Canadian macro for the in-laws) without paying ahead of time. Are the employees idiosyncratic? Yes. Do they care if you buy their stuff? Not especially. They are a great place for introverts to browse and not be bothered. Yes, the location in the strip mall leaves something, ok many things, to be desired. Just park a little farther away and you'll be fine. read more

Absolutely, unbelievably over the top rude owner and management. Had been going in there for years because of the location and have had enough. The beer is ALWAYS luke warm, stale and skunky. Even in a bottle, no matter the brand! It is getting hot and coolers are not cold. So recap; paying for crap parking, limited selection in a small store, awful beer with a side of elitist, crap attitude as these guys make the transaction. These people truly don't deserve your business... Or mine. I will drive a few minutes out of the way. If there were negative stars, I'd give a -5! The other reviews are right about this not being a place for the claustrophobic. But aside from that, I went in with my wife to buy a 6 pack. She didn't touch or carry anything, but the cashier asked for both of our IDs. She had to go back out to the car to get hers, and the guy wouldn't even take my card until she came back with hers. Just for a 6 pack... I'm sure the ABC appreciates it, but this has never happened to me before. I look young for my age, but seriously. I have been going to this store since I moved to Roeland Park, which was 7 years ago. They have always been extremely friendly and always make sure they have my favorite wine in stock. In fact, when my husband or I walk into the store they know us by name and automatically go to get my wine. Great service, great people and great price. read more
