We had an absolutely wonderful experience at District Gelato! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome from Jim, who was incredibly sweet, patient, and helpful as we sampled flavors and made our choices. Our whole family found something to love -- Joseph and I couldn't get enough of the triple scoop with Biscoff cookie butter and chai (an unexpectedly perfect combo!), while the boys devoured their birthday cake double scoops with big smiles. Our oldest went with a single chai and declared it the best gelato they've had. The shop itself is beautifully decorated, and there's a generous selection of flavors to try (which Jim gladly walked us through). I really enjoy that Plant Riverside has something for everyone--you can have dinner, do some shopping, and then top it all off with a sweet treat at District Gelato. It's definitely more of a walk-in, walk-out kind of place. When we visited, there wasn't any seating available, but I believe they've added a few small tables inside now. One of the fun highlights was the quirky mirrors--they're perfect for snapping photos with your gelato and make the experience even more memorable. It seems this place is very popular because it was busy when we visited. I will never pass up gelato so it was worth the wait. The staff was nice and helpful in getting our order and although it was not a lot of options, they all looked delicious. I got the fudge brownie with hot caramel sauce and it must've been hot because it melted my gelato lol. Nonetheless the flavor was there and I loved the big chunks of brownie in the gelato. It was creamy, gave it a nice texture and balanced. I got the smallest size and I think it was the perfect amount. They have other delicious flavors. My bf got mint chip and they had big chunks of chocolate in it which gave it a nice crunch and chocolate flavor to the mint. It was perfect dessert to end our night. read more

A nice bright shop in the Riverside District, this is certainly a bit touristy, but you're getting tasty products & friendly service just the same. I'm cheap, so it's hard to spend $8 on a scoop in a bowl, even though a good product. After a sample or two, I finally talked myself into a $10 milkshake since I don't visit often. The surprise was, the friendly server proceeded to pile 3 scoops into the cup, + whipped cream, so that's the deal to get. Just tell them to barely mix it so it doesn't end up a tasty liquid. read more

We came during off hours for a little treat, 3 employees behind the counter very interested in their obviously personal conversation. No time to greet us and only after we engaged them were we acknowledged. Gelato looked like it was melting, I asked if cooling counter was ok if they had noticed anything-and they were fully aware that their equipment wasn't functional. Still would have sold us gelato. District Gelato is a very typical Plant Riverside District eatery. Over priced and over rated. I always expect any kind of "gelato" business to be priced higher than your average ice cream shop, but for me it's a treat and I love it so I don't mind spending $5.50 for a single scoop. However, I DO mind spending $12 for two single scoops when I did not enjoy it. I ordered the Cookie Dough flavor, and it was not until after I left and walked down River St that I noticed I received Cookies and Cream. The flavors were right next to each other, and both have "cookie" it in, so it's an easy and understandable mistake. Usually I like cookies and cream flavored things, however this was disgusting. I am not being dramatic, the flavor was truly terrible. The gelato part had no flavor, literally just tasted like ice and flavorless chocolate chunks. The "cream" part tasted like a cold, stale marshmallow. I forced my boyfriend to try it and he hated it as well. However, my boyfriend ordered the Snickerdoodle flavor and he loved it! I had a small bite and it was A LOT better than the Cookie and Cream. If you are an Oreo lover, the Cookies and Cream flavor is not even for you! The service was just fine. The girls working the counter were nice enough, but spoke very low and mumbled so I could barely understand what they were saying. This is a pretty good dessert place on River Street (right behind the Starbucks). My boyfriend and I stopped in to grab gelato. The prices were pretty high. It cost $7.50 for a double scoop and an additional $1.50 for a waffle cone. However, the portion size was pretty big. We shared and got the Irish coffee and the red velvet gelato with whipped cream. The gelato was pretty good. Nothing too special. It was less creamy and more stiff than I expected. However, it was good for a really hot day. read more

Overall, the atmosphere was not very welcoming but the cashier expected a tip, which I gave anyways. Order: The strawberry sorbet was icy and tasted artificial, but was mildly edible. The Georgia peach tasted weird. It was like peach flavored cough medicine. Sadly, it was the first time in my life I couldn't finish my gelato. A tourist trap for a location to combine with some of the worst ice cream/sorbets I have ever had anywhere! Has nothing to do with Italian gelato and I hope that jw marriott and Kessler swap out to a good one. The sorbets are all fake flavors (like a bad mango slushie for example) and the sorbets are not real either. A real pistachio would taste better and not be fake neon green. Save yourself and go to doki doki or any other place for good ice cream. read more

There was a line as soon as they flipped the sign to open. One of the staff was literally still putting the labels into each pan while another was scooping out the orders. The interior is super cute, the wall tiles have ice cream cone reliefs. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered the strawberry cheesecake and it was delicious. The ladies who served us were very friendly and courteous. It was on the expensive side, most likely because of it's location on the river front under a 4 star hotel. We have tried multiple times to give this place the benefit of the doubt and unfortunately every time we go it is an awful experience. The staff is so incredibly rude all of the time, you feel like you're inconveniencing them by patronizing their business. The gelato is delicious and they have this massive menu with fancy sundaes and cookie sandwiches... only you can never actually order anything off the menu. The first time was in January and they told us it was off season and they don't do the sundaes, which ok fair. However, they also couldn't serve us anything off of the menu in April or May and now June they say they don't have the supplies and are just focusing on only gelato. It's sad because obviously the riverside district is such a wonderful area and this business just continues to disappoint time and time again to the point that we are definitely done giving them our money. read more
