Same thing happen to me . Alfredo Alfaro Painter from Santa…read morecruz made me work and do Electrical from 6am till 4:30 gave me a check that bounced. I called him and send him 100 messages and he never text me back. He didnt pay me at all. Still owes me money. Stay away from this guy. Somebody needs to teach him a lesson.

This business is operated by Alfredo Alfaro, based out of Santa Cruz, CA but takes jobs anywhere in…read moreCalifornia He has a crew of about 4 and sub-contracts woodwork, electrical to his friends and family Paintwork: - excellent prep work to cover all furniture, flooring, fixtures, electricals in plastic, paper, tape - great work on the painting and dry wall patching Recessed lights: - fast installation but 2 of the 10 recessed lights had a hold cut slightly bigger than needed so the light looked wobbly, had to point out to him to fix Pricing: - Initially he quoted for work items with a split amount for labor and materials - Negotiated a better reasonable price for each work item before work was started and he agreed to the prices before working on it Work schedule: - Horrible!!!! He keeps promising of finishing up the work and asks for money but the moment he gets a portion of the money, he starts ghosting you and will take his sweet time to come again and make a little more progress - It has been now over a month and work is not finished, which should have been completed in under 3 weeks - He keeps giving excuses about his truck, his crew, the home improvement stores - He wont pick up your calls unless he needs money from you There was no Yelp review for him, a person who says he has been in this business for 20+ yrs and that should have been a clear sign to me, yet I took a chance on him. I did get 1 reference from him who I reached out to, and that client had been happy with his work on multiple properties - that client was a realtor flipping properties - so I believed this guy should be good. Alas, it has not worked out for me and I am left reaching out to him repeatedly and at his mercy to finish off the work, cleanup the job place and return all the materials/tools that I paid for. I have not received 100% of the bills I paid for while trusting him, so I dont know at this point, if the purchases were genuine. And yes, he had me pay for tools, which should not have been the case - typically as a customer I should be paying only for materials. I DO NOT recommend this contractor for your job - please find someone who will complete the job first and take payment later, who sticks to the work schedule committed, and who is clear in his communications.

DO NOT HIRE! I do…read morenot recommend this company! I hired Travis, the GC, to do two projects since I had a flood in October and one in December. I will say his subcontractors showed professionalism while he showed none. There were several issues with him, and he later revealed he purposely stalled and delayed my project because he didn't like me which caused my kids and I undo duress and stress for months - since we were in a freezing home for 2 months and then displaced and he wasted the time we had in our rental - because he didn't like me. He is a negligent contractor. During this time I have had several health issues including having surgery- only for him to add to my medical problems due to stress of these projects that have lasted almost a year now- this is malicious. As a result of his delays, I had to hire another contractor and that contractor to 9k of my money and didn't do the work. I asked Travis if he would finish the work because I had to be out the rental and he later told me he felt I deserved to have my money taken. After also telling me he delayed me on purpose. This shows his character and it was disgusting. Issues include: Unprofessional communication. Cussing his customer and hurling personal insults. Not guaranteeing his work - my main closet rod was put in wrong and he failed to repair it after months and would not restore it to it's finished state. He admitted his team made the mistake, but practically made me beg him to repair it and ignored me for close to 2 months. It is still not fixed. He is horrible at providing estimates that will reflect any detail - and will throw in unspoken charges at the end of the work. He is not transparent in billing and will lump his estimate and later tell you he will not do all the areas the insurance is paying for, but still charge you the amount they are paying. He also will tell his workers to do less work than is in your estimate if you have an insurance claim but will charge you the full amount. I caught him taking short cuts on my paint and had to tell him to do all the work agreed upon. I had to bring several billing errors to his attention and by doing so - he felt it justified him delaying my work and personally insulting me. He will not get information you need to your insurance in a timely manner and has left me asking him for updates and info for weeks and months at a time. He has difficulty accepting accountability if he makes a mistake and will find a way to blame the customer first - then go back and forth before he will fix his work. He will cuss at and disrespect paying customers for following up with his delayed communication as though you are bothering him after him not responding for weeks and months on your project. He is highly unethical and unprofessional. I am an activist and advocate in my community against racism and he let me know he thinks I'm "bat sh*t crazy" for it and that people laugh at me which should have nothing to do with him completing work he was paid to do. He is obviously biased and took his bias out on my project. He could have refused the work if has such personal issues with me but he took my money and treated me horribly instead. I am stunned that anyone runs a business with such unprofessionalism. I paid him close to 32K, and was direct and professional with him; only to be treated like trash and have unfinished repairs. I will be posting our communication on yelp and google to back the experience I had. See photos below. Buyer beware! Do not hire this company.

We had Benz do a small facelift of our kitchen…read more We paid Travis ~$13,500 when most of the work was done and was told we'd pay the last $500 after the sink gets put in. Then during what became the last day of work, Travis texts me and says that he was no longer doing it because there was "too high of a risk to break the countertop". This was a high priority item for us that he initially said would be "no problem" during our walkthrough. He said "we could keep our $500 for plumbing work" --- Edit: After writing this review, Travis contacted me to get the sink finished. He sent over a granite fabricator who removed the sink in ~15 minutes. Because I had ordered a very deep sink as a replacement, the drain had to be dropped a few inches by cutting the sink cabinetry. Installation ended up costing another $750 on top of the original $500. The sink is now complete. --- While Benz has some great workers (particularly James B. who did an awesome job with carpentry and Irvin who did tile), we had a few large issues. Part of the crew who installed our range hood and did our electrical was having a hard time getting the range hood installed. At one point the installer decided to **stand on a $2000 range hood** (included in pictures) then kept dropping self-tapping screws onto the range hood, putting deep scratches into the hood. Travis apologized for this after I brought it up but offered no solution. --- Edit: Travis reached out after the review asking how he could make this right. He asked if there was a replacement part we could get (there isn't), then suggested "we could return [the range] saying there is a scratch on it and we can remove and reinstall a new one" I opted to not go this route. --- While Travis knows some fantastic crews, his scheduling and communication is terrible. The other companies we evaluated sent us detailed bids with pricing per job and item and had estimated timelines. I had to continue to pry information out of Travis after getting a half-baked Word document for our bid that didn't even have the correct portions of the job we agreed to on it and no timelines. I never knew what days people would show up or what work was getting done that day - the best I got from Travis were rough estimates of "X should be done Monday or Tuesday". Travis also did not communicate to his crews what work they'd be doing, at one point he let one of his guys know that he'd in fact be doing painting as well after fixing up some cabinetry, which he was not prepared for. He also told us his painter would be doing all the painting but later decided to have someone else do it (James, who thankfully did a good job - again James was the standout positive experience here). Since our job was smaller (on the order of ~$14,000 for some backsplash, range hood installation, under cabinet lighting and carpentry) I assume we were getting squeezed in where he had time in his calendar but Travis scheduled backsplash, range hood installation, paint, in that order. The range hood installation offered zero clearance from the cabinets it was between that had yet to be repainted. Because of this, when Travis' crew went back to paint the cabinets they ended up painting the range hood (and additionally the grout of the new backsplash, which was later fixed). There is also just a section of the cabinet between where it meets the hood that is unpainted and will need to be painted if I remove/change the hood. This could've been easily avoided if the cabinets were painted before tile and range hood installation. Overall, the carpentry and tile work was great. I'd hire James and Irvin directly in a heartbeat. On the flip side, I had a pretty negative experience with Benz Construction because of Travis' issues with scheduling, planning, and communication and because of this will not be using them in the future and cannot recommend them as your GC. While we ended up happy with our kitchen, the process was full of issues, delays, and a few unexpected costs.
