We had Benz do a small facelift of our kitchen.
We paid Travis ~$13,500 when most of the work was done and was told we'd pay the last $500 after the sink gets put in. Then during what became the last day of work, Travis texts me and says that he was no longer doing it because there was "too high of a risk to break the countertop".
This was a high priority item for us that he initially said would be "no problem" during our walkthrough.
He said "we could keep our $500 for plumbing work"

Edit: After writing this review, Travis contacted me to get the sink finished. He sent over a granite fabricator who removed the sink in ~15 minutes.
Because I had ordered a very deep sink as a replacement, the drain had to be dropped a few inches by cutting the sink cabinetry. Installation ended up costing another $750 on top of the original $500.
The sink is now complete.

While Benz has some great workers (particularly James B. who did an awesome job with carpentry and Irvin who did tile), we had a few large issues.
Part of the crew who installed our range hood and did our electrical was having a hard time getting the range hood installed. At one point the installer decided to **stand on a $2000 range hood** (included in pictures) then kept dropping self-tapping screws onto the range hood, putting deep scratches into the hood. Travis apologized for this after I brought it up but offered no solution.

Edit: Travis reached out after the review asking how he could make this right. He asked if there was a replacement part we could get (there isn't), then suggested "we could return [the range] saying there is a scratch on it and we can remove and reinstall a new one"
I opted to not go this route.

While Travis knows some fantastic crews, his scheduling and communication is terrible. The other companies we evaluated sent us detailed bids with pricing per job and item and had estimated timelines. I had to continue to pry information out of Travis after getting a half-baked Word document for our bid that didn't even have the correct portions of the job we agreed to on it and no timelines.
I never knew what days people would show up or what work was getting done that day - the best I got from Travis were rough estimates of "X should be done Monday or Tuesday". Travis also did not communicate to his crews what work they'd be doing, at one point he let one of his guys know that he'd in fact be doing painting as well after fixing up some cabinetry, which he was not prepared for.
He also told us his painter would be doing all the painting but later decided to have someone else do it (James, who thankfully did a good job - again James was the standout positive experience here).
Since our job was smaller (on the order of ~$14,000 for some backsplash, range hood installation, under cabinet lighting and carpentry) I assume we were getting squeezed in where he had time in his calendar but Travis scheduled backsplash, range hood installation, paint, in that order.
The range hood installation offered zero clearance from the cabinets it was between that had yet to be repainted. Because of this, when Travis' crew went back to paint the cabinets they ended up painting the range hood (and additionally the grout of the new backsplash, which was later fixed). There is also just a section of the cabinet between where it meets the hood that is unpainted and will need to be painted if I remove/change the hood. This could've been easily avoided if the cabinets were painted before tile and range hood installation.
Overall, the carpentry and tile work was great. I'd hire James and Irvin directly in a heartbeat.
On the flip side, I had a pretty negative experience with Benz Construction because of Travis' issues with scheduling, planning, and communication and because of this will not be using them in the future and cannot recommend them as your GC. While we ended up happy with our kitchen, the process was full of issues, delays, and a few unexpected costs. read more
