As a long standing happy customer of Disking for the past 15 years, I would like to defend Disking from that previous review from Sue. M of Farnham. Very often, customers believe that the laptop which they purchased 10 years ago for £2500 from PC world or similar is worth repairing. The fact is, they are not. Laptops and notebooks now cost from as little as £150, and they run at light speed by comparison, therefore, to spend £80 on labour and then attempt to find a part for a ten year old machine which works reliably, and hope that nothing else fails on the laptop afterwards, is uneconomical and any person suggesting it is worth repairing a laptop of that age would be giving wrong advice. The best thing that Disking could offer her is to sell her a new laptop (cheapest there being around £250) and do a data transfer for her, so that all her old data would then be on her new, warrantied, guaranteed and reliable, very fast laptop. I feel this review by Sue was somewhat unfair, because the complexities and technicalities entailed in what she was asking for (a repair to a very old machine) was inadvisable from a professional standpoint - and after all, if someone takes their machine to a company to be repaired, it is because they do not have the knowledge to know what to do for themselves. That is what professionals are for - and I am in no doubt that Disking have always offered me the best possible service and honesty when it comes to my own computing needs over the years. I am a techie and I still ask them for advice sometimes - they're good, please give them the benefit of the doubt and visit them. Suzanne at Disking (the manager in the shop), is very friendly, down to earth, and human - she does and says what is professionally and morally right, and stands by her statements. I support her and Disking wholeheartedly.
They are a family business which was started in 1987!

They now have 8 shops, and started with only one. Now, that says something about a family run business - it says that they're good at what they do and that on the whole, customers are very happy, hence their expansion from 1 to 8 shops, and not selling out the business to a corporation. They are a highly ethical business and I would recommend them to anyone. read more
