Was told to bring Mac in for repair by Apple Support. Asked Apple Support if it would actually be repaired since the computer is, "obsolete," (therefore would not be repaired). Was reassured 3 times that yes the computer would be repaired. Lugged the computer over to the Apple Store. Met with the Apple Genius who told me no, the computer would not be repaired - because it is obsolete..!. Amazing. Case was set up for this.
Got the computer home, stored it and took it to 3rd party: CAD in Saunderton. Upon finally unboxing it I was shocked to see a crack on the screen that had emanated from a chip. Asked 3rd party if they were responsible for the crack, they said no - the damage was in the case notes. After some back and forth I was offered a free refurbished, replacement, screen. After mentioning that i thought that the Apple Store Reading may have also had something to do with it - the Genius unboxed it and I specifically remember a panicked look he gave me I tried to get in contact with somebody at Apple.
The only option available was Apple Support again. I tried several times to speak to somebody which proved to be a complete waste of time and got absolutely nowhere. So I opted to try contacting Tim Cook himself. I was put in contact with somebody in the UK head office. He contacted the manager at the Apple Store who said the damage was there when it came in and, at any rate, the computer is, 'obsolete,' so they would not do anything. I was furious. I have tried contacting this character to follow up and to ask to speak to somebody more senior - he has completely ignored me. I was really looking for somebody t the Apple Store to speak to the Apple Genius. I was maybe naively expecting some frank honesty - but all I got was manger guff.
I ended up going back to the The Oracle Apple Store myself and ended up speaking to the manager and he showed me the photo. Effetively w have this photo so tough luck pal) I left however upon walking away, I realised that the damage must have occurred when unpacked, the photo did not prove what he was asserting at all. I saw the genius earlier so went back to the Apple Store Reading.
The genius was with a customer, so I sat nearby and waited. He asked me if I wanted something but i said its fine, I could see he was with an appointment, I was happy to wait.
Shortly after that, he just asked me what i wanted. I had a conversation with him, in front of this other customer. He went to get the manager and came back afterward telling me the manager was refusing to come over because he had already spoken to me.
Ultimately I asked him, "did you crack my screen?" He said that he could have done, it was possible.. maybe. I mentioned his panicked look when unpacking and he said there would be no CCTV footage anymore.
I have now emailed head office again, and am not anticipating a response. I think this whole affair has been dealt with in the worst possible way. I have tried to reference the Apple Support communication but I suspect the hed office person hs no real interested in looking into any of this in great, or any, detail.
That fact that I was sent in this place by Apple Support unnecessarily and the manager's attitude along with Apple head office ignoring me is just disgusting.
Having used Apple products for over 20 years, I don't think I will ever use an Apple product again. I certainly will never enter an Apple Store again. read more
