Reading is On. The. Map! Just opened in the Oracle Shopping Centre, we have our own Apple Store. No more trundling all the way in to London, you can fight the crowds and worship right here in Reading. Not nearly as fancy as Regent Street or Covent Garden, this shop is simply twice as wide as the shops next door. It still has all the usual stuff you find everywhere else - tables of iMacs and iPads and iPhones and iPods, plus a Genius Bar and One-on-One training and everything else. The shop folks dress the same here as in every other Apple Store - blue tshirts. I swear, they specifically pick folks that are inked up or have, uh, unique, hairstyles. But hey, they know Apple and that's what truly counts. Welcome to Reading, Apple!

Even though I went in on a busy Saturday afternoon, I received fast and friendly service. Thanks!

The staff are a friendly bunch, but they were unable to assist with my damaged iPhone and insist it is likely to need replacing.

San Bei - San Bei in "Smelly Alley"

San Bei

A little expensive, but good work. *A friend* brought San Bei *someone's* iPhone to have it SIM…read moreunlocked from the AT&T network. Leaving the phone overnight was a litle worrying, not knowing this rather back-alley hole-in-the-wall from anything, but the next day I returned... I mean... my friend returned... and picked up a working and unlocked iPhone. [I would never do such a thing, but my friend seems to have a lower set of ethical standards, even though technically he purchased the phone from AT&T and paid an outrageous early termination fee and they still wouldn't let it go.] Ummm... moving on. Popping in an O2 SIM, the iPhone immediately registered on the network and was fully operational! For the low, low price of £20, San Bei did excellent work and weeks later, the phone continues to operate fine on the O2 network and syncs to iTunes on the laptop without issue. (I didn't think to haggle over the price, but you may want to. £20 seems high.) San Bei also has a major selection of phone accessories and other accouterments. If you're needing some work done on an iPhone, or you simply want to bling it up, bring it here!

GAME

A chain of shops selling computer games and accessories. Bascially any computer games console you…read morecan think of and this shop will sell the games for them. It's recognisable by it's silver front with GAME in big purple letters across the front. Generally the shops within this chain are never that big (as is with this one) but they still have a wide selection of games. This one is located within the oracle centre, but I can't tell you where abouts (sorry!). The games for each console are really easily labelled by huge headers that hang over each drop. I find the prices however are never really that good in game - they tend to be a little over priced. They have most games in stock and a pre ordering system if you want to get your hands on a game thats shortly to be released. In the middle are several islands which sell preowned games for quite cheap prices. These have been brought to game as part of their trade in service. By this it means you can bring old console games back and trade them in for cash or towards another game. It's quite a good scheme. There are plenty of offers usually on such as 2 DS games for £30 though the games tend to be slightly older games though you will something find yourself with a bargain. Game also sells consoles as well such as Wii fit, PS3 etc and the equipment to go with them. If you wish to try out the consoles, the major consoles with the biggest games are stored around the shop. They also have a points scheme where you can collect points on your purchases to buy games with in the future. Make sure you check here in the sales as there are some good offers to be had. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask the staff as they're really helpful and knowledgeable.
