I cannot say enough great things about Marina and her teachers at Discovery Land! Our infant daughter started at the daycare in the middle of the pandemic and the team was extremely accommodating and made us feel very comfortable with the steps they were taking to keep everyone safe. The facilities are kept very neat and clean. Our baby was always well-fed, happy and with a dry diaper and clean clothes at pick up each afternoon. They handled bottle feeding great and then helped transition her fully to solids. At 18 months she graduated from the infant classroom into the 'big kids classroom' and has been happy as ever there! The teachers provide such a loving and fun atmosphere; lots of outdoor playtime in the safe backyard, lots of music, singing and dancing, lots of coloring and arts & crafts, and Spanish lessons. They go out the way to celebrate holidays and birthdays for each of the kids. Homemade healthy food and snacks every day (all meals are provided). They also recently helped potty train our daughter, which was such a huge help! Marina is great at sending photos throughout the day so we can feel part of all the fun our daughter is having, and she has always been easy to communicate with. Our kiddo absolutely loves Discoveryland, her friends there, and all the teachers. We are truly lucky to have this gem of a daycare in our neighborhood! read more

We loved our time with Marina and her team at Discoveryland. Our son was all smiles at drop off and sometimes didn't even want to leave! Marina is extremely friendly and welcoming and the families and community at Discoveryland are too. Our son started at 7 months old and he was always well taken care of and we never had to worry. Discoveryland was the best place to send our son and I would highly recommend Marina and team to anyone considering daycare. read more

My daughter went to Discovery Land from 18 months to 3 years old. She attended both the little kids daycare and the preschool and she absolutely loved it. Marina, the owner, is very easy to communicate and sends pictures throughout the day to keep us posted. My daughter came home with very clean clothes every day. She always wanted to go back to school the next day without hesitation. Most importantly, she made new friends at Discovery Land and we built a community. read more

Highly recommend this amazing home based daycare. My son started on the toddler side at 18 months old, and had the best experience. They sing songs, have Spanish class, do awesome art projects, and spend tons of time outdoors in the huge yard. The owner Marina is a great communicator, and we get cute picture updates throughout the week. All the food is provided as well. 10/10! Go check it out - you won't regret it! read more

Marina and her team took in my son in the early stages of the pandemic, and cared for him from four months until he was 3.25. I was initially drawn to Marina's warmth, dedication, and the lovely space, complete with an ocean-view outdoor play area. It's a special feature that there are side by side infant and toddler/little kid programs, so both babies and kids get age-appropriate support and activities. From my son's earliest days, I knew that he was loved and cared for - and Marina's long experience meant that she knew tricks for tummy time and nap time that made her feel as much like a parenting mentor as a daycare provider. As my son grew, he built confidence and skills - at 2, he was singing his ABCs, counting to 20, and recognizing his letters. At 2.5, he was singing songs in Spanish thanks to the wonderful Spanish teacher who comes in to play games and practice Spanish daily. Marina takes so much pride in her program, keeping immaculately clean facilities, cooking healthy food for the kids, and organizing celebrations for birthdays and holidays, such as a Christmas party complete with "Santa" distributing gifts. She treats her teachers with love and support, so the whole team works closely together and with minimal turnover. She and the other teachers work with you to address any needs that arise, and communicate kindly and discreetly when there are challenging behaviors. Finally, the program is small, warm, and fosters community connections. Parents stay and chat with each other and Marina at pick up; people have been warm, open, and fun to see outside of school. Being at Marina's has truly made us feel a part of the parent community in the neighborhood, and I am as grateful for that as the excellent care they have provided. We loved our time at Discoveryland and highly recommend it! read more

I cannot say enough about how great our time was with Marina and her team. We experienced both the younger and older kids group, and our boys were shown nothing but love and happiness for 4 years. Marina was fully invested in their wellbeing and shared in the joy of watching our kids develop and grow up. Marina helped us navigate allergy issues in real time and accommodated our son's needs. Our kids loved the variety of activities they participated in, with Spanish class always a highlight for them. Our fridge is covered in artwork that our kids proudly took home every day from discoveryland. I'd recommend discoveryland to anyone. read more

DiscoveryLand - Graduation - Preschools Near Me - San Francisco, California

Marina and her whole team of teachers are truly amazing. Both of my kids went to Discoveryland. Marina's was the second daycare for my first son and it was far better. So much better we automatically had the second one attend and stayed with Marina for like 5 years. Marina cared for them like they were her own children and was always so sweet and supportive of them. She also took care of us parents and I felt supported with her looking after my kids. My kids were happy to see the teachers every day and come home with their projects. The other families are super great and always talk outside during pick up time, while the kids often run around and play. When both of my children moved on from DiscoveryLand, they were happy to have some friends from Marina's at their new preschool. Marina builds a very supportive community among the parents and teachers. I am very lucky I found her! :) read more

From the moment I spoke to Discoverland's owner Marina, I knew my son would be in good hands! She is a proud mother and an experienced social worker. The daycare was clean and provided plenty of in and outdoor activities. This was the perfect fit for our family as we lived 3 blocks down and have a very energetic child. Our son began attending Discoverytown when he was 15 months old and eventually transitioned to Discoveryland when he turned 2. He was enrolled up until his 3rd birthday. The only reason we left Discoveryland was that we moved away from San Francisco. We already miss Discoveryland so much! My family couldn't have been happier with our experience! Our son would run to the door every morning out of pure excitement to see Marina, Dora, and Zoya. Marina provides two healthy meals (organic breakfast and lunch), plenty of snacks, a playful environment, and great opportunities to learn and grow. There are volunteer Spanish, French, Art, and Music teachers who routinely visit. My son was always so proud of the artwork he did or the new words he learned at "school". During the holidays Marina has Santa visit and gives the children presents, which I think is above and beyond any daycare experience. We are so grateful to have discovered Discoveryland. Marina felt like an extension to our family while we lived in San Francisco. She was caring not just to our son but extended her love, prayers, and support to both my husband and me. read more

My two daughters loved Discoveryland!! They took such good care of both girls from aged six months through three years. The owner has decades of experience and loves the kids as her own grandkids. It ended up being more of a community than just a daycare. read more

Marina and her staff are real Earth Angels who took my step-daughter in with open arms and hearts. My husband and I were looking for quality daycare in the Sunset neighborhood mid-school year since our 4 year old started living with us full-time. When I scheduled the tour with Marina, my husband and I fell in love not only with the facility and school itself, but with Marina's charisma. Her passion for care-taking is visible in every detail in the school. Thanks to Marina and her fabulous teachers, Olivia is now speaking English fluently (when she started she only spoke Portuguese), Spanish, developed interest in song and dance, and improved her motor skills through drawings. I highly recommend Marina's daycare Discoveryland as your friendly neighborhood daycare! read more

We had our daughter at Discoveryland through 18 months and it was such a great experience! Marina and all the caretakers were lovely, and our daughter was so excited to be dropped off at school everyday. They felt like family which was great. We would highly recommend Discoveryland, and have to many of our friends! read more

We absolutely loved sending our daughter here. They welcomed us with open arms and were able to accommodate us for temporary child care. All the teachers are warm, caring and genuinely love the kids. The children are also very well behaved and seem happy. The teachers are very experienced and learned my daughter's temperament and personality quickly. The daycare is beautiful and very clean. The photos depict an accurate picture of the facility on a daily basis. The backyard/deck looks like a fun place for the children. Spanish and music teachers come weekly. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided by the daycare. My daughter enjoyed her short time at Discovery Land Child Care. We only left because she had a spot open for her at a Chinese immersion preschool. Thank you SO much, Teacher Lina, Marina and Catalina! We love you! read more

Our daughter attended daycare here from 5 months of age until transitioning recently to preschool. Marina and her staff were wonderful- we feel fortunate to have found them during the pandemic when securing childcare was difficult. Our daughter's transition at first was challenging (as it often can be) with bottle feeding and napping, but with their experience, care, and creativity things quickly worked themselves out. Marina creates a strong community/ family feel and we would recommend her daycare wholeheartedly. read more

Our son has attended Discoveryland for about 8 months and he loves it! He has been attending the home for older kids (usually 2-4 year olds) and felt at home there almost immediately. Discoveryland was his first experience with a daycare/preschool and we wanted him to go somewhere with a loving, safe, comfortable environment where he could meet and play with other kids and be exposed to a wide range of activities. Discoveryland has definitely provided all of this - Marina and the other teachers are so loving that they feel like family. Our son loves telling us about his friends at school and the various classes he has each week, from music to Spanish. Discoveryland always provides home cooked, healthy meals for the kids and celebrates all the various events, holidays and birthdays with fun activities for the kids. When our son was ready to potty train they helped him along at school and were always great when he had occasional accidents. We can't recommend it enough! read more

We started sending our son to DiscoveryLand on his one year old birthday in July 2019 and he loved it... and we loved it!! Very nice neighborhood daycare with kind care providers. Huge outdoor space. Extremely clean. Marina and Dora are like family. We plan to send our daughter soon. Couldn't say enough about DiscoveryLand, truly felt like they loved our son as their own. Our son was always happy coming and going and proud to show us his art work and anything else he did during the day. They fed him delicious food and helped get him on a nap schedule. I will forever remember our special time at DiscoveryLand! Only reason why we left is because my husband got laid off during COVID, hoping to be back soon!! read more

Our son attended Discovery Land for one year. He started at 14 months with the infants group (Discovery Town) and then transitioned to the preschool. Marina and her team are exceptionally caring and nurturing. As parents, we had the peace of mind knowing that our son is loved and well cared for. Dora (infant groups) and Zoya (preschool) took care of our son with the outmost kindness and thoughtfulness. Our son loved the different activities the daycare provides and came home every day proudly caring a new art project. When attending the preschool, he learned his ABCs and numbers, and also enjoyed Spanish and music classes. Marina and the team also provide healthy and delicious food that my son LOVED and still talks about. This is a truly wonderful place and we were very happy with the care there! read more

We started bringing out daughter to DiscoveryLand when she was just 5 months old. The staff are an extremely caring and loving group of people. Our daughter formed strong attachments and bonds with several of the caregivers/teachers. She loved going there and we never had any concerns that she was being well cared for and that she was safe. They also keep the site very clean. We were sad when she had to leave! read more

I can't say enough great things about Discovery Land. First off, my daughter attended home with smaller children with Marina and Dora and Una. When we started, my daughter was a little over 2 years old and very anxious about leaving me. I had not worked in 4 months and she was used to being with me full time, and before that she had a one on one nanny (group childcare was a new thing for her). She cried profusely when I left her the first time which made me feel anxious and unsettled. Marina sent me pictures and text updates all day letting me know that my daughter was doing well and having fun. Marina also gave us a lot of practical suggestions to help my daughter adjust to being there, and kept reassuring us that it would get better. Within a week, my daughter was excited about "preschool" and asking to go to Marina's. In general, I loved the family feel of Discovery land. I always felt that I was leaving my daughter with people who loved and nurtured her and felt like family. I loved that Marina cooked healthy meals for my child and taught her to like new things she hadn't tried before. I loved that they brought in other teachers for lessons (and that my daughter would come home with a new French or Spanish word she'd learned). I loved that my daughter was taught manners, sharing, and things like sneezing into her elbow. From a practical standpoint, the caregiver to child ratio is excellent, and the center meets all of the american academy of pediatrics recommendations for a quality childcare facility. It is very hard to find a facility that meets all of these! We left when we were offered a spot at my employer's daycare (which is highly coveted), but it was an extremely hard decision to leave. I ended up deciding to leave because my employer's daycare offered earlier hours and I could see my daughter at lunch. I labored and stressed over the decision because I have been so happy with Marina and her staff (and I cried our last day). If you are considering Discoveryland, don't hesitate, you'll be very happy with the care there. read more

Both my daughters attended Discoveryland daycare. The older one went from 6 months to 2.5 and the younger one started at 3 months. We loved Marina, Dora, Zoya and all the helpers. The only reason that we left this place was because we moved out of the city. It was so nice having both girls next door to each other. One drop off but had age appropriate activities! The ladies at DiscoveryLand became extended family. Would highly recommend this place for your young kids. They will be loved and taken care of. My daughter always ran to the door to go in and the baby was always smiling at the teacher when I dropped her off! read more

Our daughter went to DiscoveryTown with Marina and Dora and we all loved our time there. Marina creates a very loving and fostering environment with plenty of meals and activities to stimulate the kids. Our daughter loved music class and Spanish class and she had some kind of project to share every day when we picked her up. You have to remember that DiscoveryTown is a family daycare, run from a newly renovated space below a home. (Typical of a lot of family daycares in the Sunset.) We prefer the smaller environment versus the daycare centers because it feels like you get more personalized care. We have 2 other older children who attended family daycares and DiscoveryTown is among the best because of Marina and her teachers, the cleanliness of the space, the qualities of activities offered and overall happiness that we see with the kids. I would easily recommend DiscoveryTown to anyone looking. read more

Let's start with the positive points about Discoveryland younger section [under 2 years old]: - Marina and her helper are caring. - Good capability to communicate during the day or debrief at the end of the day. - Flexibility in the pick-up hours within reasons which can matter when both parents aren't working 9-5. - Outside deck with toys which means a daily routine around outside playtime. Even if the Sunset with less sun, still a good habit. - 2 meals a day are included (breakfast & lunch) and yet the price is lower compared to more centrally located daycares that only serve 1 meal (about 15% less). But, as often, there is a "price" to be under market prices: - Marina's helper doesn't speak English. Both my wife and I have accents but in this case, it's only a few words at best which means she can't read to the kids (in English) for example. - No real curriculum (for younger ones / under 2 years old) compared to other daycares who have a daily plan of activities and a progression. - And the real sore point is the lack of a real "parent community" or parent day leading to situations where, as a parent, you don't know if you can trust that a communication about a sensitive topic was really shared to all the others parents (we needed all the kids to take an anti-pinworm medicine at once). Again, this is not a review for the older section run by Lina where my friends had their kid for 2 years and were very happy with it. Now, we are at LadyBugs and very happy with it. read more

Wow. I can't believe our son only has two weeks left with DiscoveryLand. He started there around 20 months of age and he's now 4 1/2, starting TK in the fall. He has grown so much there and has been genuinely loved by Marina and her staff. It's hard to convey our gratitude for someone who has been so intimately involved in the raising of our child. Everyday I drop him off I feel completely confident in his care. Marina is easy to communicate with and adaptable to the children's needs. As some of the kids are getting older, Marina and team are working to teach them basic writing skills and more complex songs and games. A guest Spanish teacher comes in a few times a week and he now sings "head, shoulder, knees and toes" in espanol. It's so fun to see him talk about the fun times he has with his friends at school. The mix of ages may not be everyone's preference, but I think it's been really good for our son to interact with kids of different developmental stages. The facilities are impeccably clean and organized and the outdoor space is really cute, with an ocean view for the kiddos! Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack (all meals) are provided. Our son eats so well there he occasionally skips dinner at home! While there are no organized parent days/evenings, we've found most of the other parents to be quite friendly and open. We've been able to organize our own playdates with his friends and love the community there. read more

This is a wonderful pre-k daycare school! Discovery Land is for young children under age 5. This is a home-based school with a small group of children so the teacher:child ratio is generous. The head teacher/owner, Lina, is a extremely loving, caring and thoughtful person, but she enforces a well-planned curriculum and likes structure. She has 1 other full-time teacher and 3 part-time teachers throughout the week. Because it's also a preschool, there is a daily schedule with multiple activities planned ahead of time, as well as certain classes throughout the week. The schedule includes age-appropriate activities such as singing, dancing, art projects, reading time, nap time, snack/lunch time, play time in the backyard or indoors, as well as holiday projects/activities. The tuition is on the higher side, but food is included, the center is cleaned daily, and there are 5 staff members. The only thing parents provide are diapers & wipes, if your child isn't potty-trained. Lina works with parents to potty-train each child, around 2.5 or the age at which the child is ready. For a home-based center, it is extremely well-organized and kept tidy/clean to high standards. Lina also provides daily updates to parents at pick-up time and will openly discuss any issues a child may have with his/her parents. Enrollment is usually through word-of-mouth from attending families, but you may get lucky and stumble upon this or other great reviews of Discovery Land on a few childcare websites. My daughter has been attending this school since right before she turned 2 years old and she really loves her teachers and friends. I highly recommend Discovery Land if you are looking for a small, home-based, caring environment that will provide structure and prepare your child for kindergarten, as well as put you in good company with other parents who are of the same mind-set. read more

My daughter went to Discovery Land for the three years leading up to Kindergarten and she was as prepared as possible. We were just sad that she could not be with Lina, the teachers and her friends anymore :( Lina provided the love and care that my daughter needed but also yummy homemade, wholesome food and age appropriate activities from which she learned so much. I recommend Discover Land to anyone looking for a special place for their little one. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Marina and her team at DiscoveryLand. Our son Miles started there at 5 months old when I had to return to work and Marina made it such an easy transition. Meals and snacks were handled and we got frequent updates throughout the day. She's also very willing to work with any specific needs your child might have. Miles was what they called a "happy spitter" and required additional steps during bottle feeding. We were confident he was in good hands. The best feeling was when we would pick him up and he would eagerly want to stay and play. We recently made the move to Oakland when miles was 1.5yrs, we were very sad and wish we could have figured out a way for him to stay. If you're looking for a daycare in San Francisco, Marina and DiscoveryLand are the best! read more

We loved this daycare! Our daughter started at Discoveryland when she was 18 months, and attended from October 2014 - January 2015. We moved overseas in January, which is the only reason that we stopped attending. Our daughter loved Discoveryland from her first day and was immediately comfortable. When we picked her up, she didn't want to leave. Lina, Marina, and Catalina are very warm and loving caregivers, and the other children who attended were very sweet. Our daughter formed great relationships and would talk about her friends and caregivers all the time. Her vocabulary expanded once she started attending, and it was wonderful to watch her develop and see her be so excited every time we dropped her off. They celebrate all major holidays at Discoveryland, and decorate accordingly which was very festive and I was happy our daughter could learn about the different holidays. Lina even dressed up as Santa for Christmas, which was so much fun! It's also very clean and spacious, with a great sized backyard. Almost two months later, our daughter still talks about the people she met at Discoveryland. It was a great experience for us, and we miss everyone there. Thank you, Discoveryland! read more

Lina does a wonderful job taking care of my son and making him feels at home in Discovery Land. He loves his friends and teachers there. He enjoys going to classes and doing his projects. He looks forward to going to school every day and doesn't want to go home when we pick him up. As for the staffs, Lina is always caring and reassuring. She has lots of experience with children. We feel safe leaving our son with her. She is great at communicating and always quick to respond to our concerns. Catalina and Marina are also wonderful and my son just adores them. As for the overall review, Lina's place is spotless and very organized. Her backyard is beautiful, well maintained and safe for children to play. She cooks healthy, organic food for the children. Lina and the staffs go extra miles for the children, for instance, they spoon feed the little ones to make sure they eat enough. It's a rarity that you find people that truly care about your kid and we're lucky that we find it everyday in Discovery Land. read more

Both of our daughters attended Discovery Land before starting preschool and we were so pleased with our experience. What I love most about the Discovery Land staff is that its clear how much they genuinely care for the children. They have a great outdoor space and their indoor space is clean and organized. They offer the right amount of structure and activities for the kids: working on letters and numbers, celebrating holidays and regular Spanish class and music class. And Marina always shares pictures with us during the day. When you're sending your child to daycare for the first time its important to feel confident in your child care choice. It was obvious that our girls were so happy during the day which was most important to us. We're incredibly grateful for our three years at Discovery Land. read more

When my wife and I began looking for a daycare for our 1.5 year old twins, we were very quickly overwhelmed. That all changed the first time I spoke to Marina. We spoke for well over an hour and spoke not only about our girls, her philosophy on childcare, and the meals she home cooks for them every day, but even our own pasts. It felt like I had known her my whole life. From one conversation, there was no doubt that I would feel comfortable with our children being under her care. After two years, I know without a doubt that we brought them to a place filled with love and care. Our children have grown tremendously in their time there and look forward to going every single day so that they can have Marina's soup and play with their friends. I strongly recommend Discovery Land to any parent who is looking for exceptional care and a much more personal learning environment than larger preschools! Lina took care of both my two daughters from the time they were 3 months old until they went to Kindergarten. They are now 16 and 10, but we still keep in touch with Lina as she was like a second mother to them. Lina and her staff genuinely love the children under their care and they work very hard to provide a nurturing, safe, and CLEAN environment where children can learn and play. They provide delicious meals, stimulating activities, provide preschool lessons daily, and a weekly music program. It's worth your time to schedule a visit and talk to other parents at Discovery Land. P.S. I don't know why Yelp has all the 5-star reviews filtered out, but there are over 20 reviews from current and past parents whose posts should be shown! read more

Mariana has been super helpful right from the beginning with my son. Because of family issues we were suddenly looking for new daycare for my 6 months old. On my first visit the day care is extremely well maintained and clean but there was no opening. Marina did a quick followup with us in couple of weeks as soon as the spot opened up and this was the best decision we took. - Fun and relaxing atmosphere with a big backyard with toys on deck - Meal provided - Helpful and experienced Discovery Land Daycare is a popular and well recognized day care in the sunset area. Its run by two sisters Marina and Lina who have two different houses next to each other. Marina normally handles infant kids till age of around 2 and Lina older than that. This assures you that the kids are playing with similar age group kids. Both the houses have are interconnected in backyard so it provides a larger play area for kids. Also its a great place to start your small one with Marina and then transition next door to Lina. Dora is a rockstar who works with Marina and infants. She has taken good care of my kid right from beginning. My son had some weight issues in beginning and after starting with Discovery our first concern was if he would loose weight, but they fed him correctly and we never noticed his weight going down afterwards. Marina focuses on organic food. I would recommend this day care to parents, your little one is in good hands here. read more

Discovery Land is Great! Lina and her staff are wonderful! They are very caring and focused on child development in a fun, welcoming, nurturing and safe atmosphere.. Our daughter Amber has attended Discovery Land for over a year now and we absolutely love it so much so that when the school we had been on a waiting list for came up with an opening we decided to pass on it and keep her in Discovery Land. I love that they serve nutritional food that Amber actually eats and loves. Sometimes Lina will pack us a togo box of our daughters favorite meal. We've even run into Lina at the local Farmers Markets on Saturdays. And we've even gotten together with all the parents and kids for group play dates at local parks. Highly recommend. Marina has high professional standards, and her team provides a warm, caring, and clean environment for children to explore, play, and learn. This is a very healthy environment, complete with organic home-cooked meals and a firm sick-child policy that helps to mitigate outbreaks. By comparison with other daycares that we have attended, the frequency of illness is much lower at Discoveryland. Three of my children have attended Discoveryland since 2016: - My oldest graduated from Discoveryland last year. Her current teachers regularly applaud her aptitude and social skills, and I have no doubt that her time at Discoveryland was well spent. - Discoveryland has been equally good for my son who has a chronic medical issue. Marina and her team were willing to learn about his condition and were more than happy to provide the extra care and attention that he required. Marina feeds him well, which is extremely helpful for parents of picky-eaters. My son often retells stories about lessons and activities and playtime, which indicates to me that he is actively engaged in this environment. He is graduating soon, and I have complete confidence that he will be prepared for the next year. - My youngest is still attending the infant section at Discoveryland. Pick-ups and drop-offs are a breeze and are always accompanied by a smile. In addition to her high professional standards, Marina is a valuable personal resource and support for new parents. She is open and communicative and is fully invested in your child's development, both inside and outside of Discoveryland. read more

Discoveryland is such a great example of what a day care center should be. Lina and Marina are so professional and take the time to insure each child has individualized attention and care. The meals they serve are organic and healthy! I never have to worry or ask what they will be preparing, and have come to trust them fully! The rooms are always tidy and the toys and materials are always replaced. The children are always excited about a new project or theme, and we never have a hard time getting them to go to school.
