Booked a cabin for 6. Did the job for the night. Basic facilities but in a good spot near the beach and an awesome playground.

Normally when it comes to bouncers I generally smile and move on simply because they seem to be…read moreimposing and intimidating (and that is probably what the job description entails). However it is incredibly rare that you encounter a bouncer that actually knows how to be polite, and it was when I was sitting in this pub that I discovered such a person. Sure, it is not the most enjoyable of jobs, but when one asks you to do something and is incredibly polite about it, then it is something that you tend to remember. Okay, the pub itself was nothing outstanding, but it was a decent pub at that. Actually, it is an Irish pub, though the name still confuses me a little (it sounds more Chinese than Irish). When I passed through here though it was fairly quite despite it being a Saturday night on the Easter Weekend. Still I quite liked the place because the service was simply excellent. However, if you are a smoker then unfortunately there are only a couple of tables for you out the front.

I don't enjoy writing reviews like this, but since my experience was so utterly awful I feel I need…read moreto share it as a warning to others. My entire friend-group and I decided we would head to Seanchai to dance and have a good time. Several of us were leaving in the following week, so one big night out together was going to be the best send-off. We all got ready to go out, I actually spent 3 hours getting ready for this as I wanted to make sure I was well-dressed for the occasion. Upon arriving at the establishment we stood outside and chatted for a bit while we waited for a few of our friends to catch up, the bouncers even spoke to us and could see that we were in a group together. When everyone had arrived we lined up with our ID to enter the bar, the bouncers admitted four of my friends and then stopped me, they told me that I could not enter the bar because of the shoes I was wearing. I was born with a condition that had left the bones in my feet poorly-structured and after surgery and therapy I had been given a pair of specialised sandals to wear as they fix my foot posture and allow my feet to heal correctly. They are not thongs, they are not flip flops. They are sandals with numerous straps wrapping all around my feet, protecting them. I explained my foot condition to the bouncers and they very abruptly cut me off and threatened harm to me. I am completely confused as to why my peaceful response warranted such an aggressive and inappropriate reaction. It was incredibly upsetting and it made me feel unsafe, which is something that security guards are meant to prevent. My female friends asked if their shoes were okay, they were wearing thongs with one or two extra straps. The bouncers said their shoes were fine and stuttered as they tried to justify it with some reason about the structural integrity of their shoes. It became clear to me that this was discrimination, me being Male and Gay and they being Female meant they would be allowed in and I wouldn't. I have never experienced true prejudice until I came to Australia, but it is alive and well. The bouncers kept referring to my female friends as "babe" which was very condescending. They told me I am probably a drinker and am an irresponsible jerk, I do not drink alcohol, nor have I done for over a year. All I wanted to do was dance and have a good time as I've heard that this bar is great. I also cannot understand the logic behind the shoes rule anyway, since this is a seaside town and a holiday destination. I had no issues with my therapeutic-sandals in Byron Bay or Mildura. To add insult to injury four of our friends had paid to enter and were already inside, they had to come out and be out of pocket. The bouncers knew we were all together but I suppose they just wanted to make the bar an extra 40 dollars. One of my friends who had paid came out to see what was happening and then re-entered, she was violently grabbed by a female member of staff who screamed at her demanding 10 dollars. You couldn't make this kind of mistreatment up, honestly. I made wonderful friends in this place, I planned to go out with them as a last goodbye. But all I got was discrimination on several levels, threatened with bodily harm and incredible upset and guilt as two narcissistic bouncers ruined our night out and scammed our friends out of cash in the process.
