There is now a wonderful atmosphere at Discovery Dental from the front office to the hygienists to Dr. Khayyat himself. Claudia at the front desk is very helpful, friendly & professional, as is the new office mgr. I believe her name is Michelle, and Ed the hygienist. My son, husband & I have been seen by Dr. Khayyat since he took over the practice of Dr. Leads, who retired, and found that we are very comfortable with him taking care of our dental needs. Happy to say I've found my new dental office after moving up to North County. Honestly the most relaxed and pain-free cleaning I've ever had. I came in for my bi-annual cleaning as a new patient this past Tuesday, and can say my experience was top-notch, from the first call to schedule my appointment, to the last tooth cleaned. As I walked into the office, the receptionists were nothing but kind, warm and welcoming. I forget the other assistants name, but her and Nancy were an overall pleasure to do business with, as professional as they were friendly. The office was clean and polished, and the technology they used in the dental was looked more modern then other dental offices I've been to. The treatment I got from Dr. Khayyat felt thorough and well-thought out, and it's obvious that a lot of heart goes into his work. As a new patient, he made sure to shake my hand, introduce himself thoroughly, and get to know me, which reflects the level of care he puts into his practice. You can tell when a doctor has a genuine desire to take care of his patients, and this was the case here. I've had some painful cleaning experiences in my day, to the point where getting my teeth cleaned was something I dreaded. However, this cleaning was thorough and, for the most part, pain free, from the polishing and flossing by the hygienists, and the actual cleaning by Dr. Khayyat. When I got home, my teeth were noticeably smoother and cleaner, so they definitely did the job right, just with steady hands. Since coming here, I learned that I've been grinding my teeth, and was given approximate measurements as to the average lengths of a tooth and the length of my own. While I always kind of knew I did this, this had never been brought to my attention in a clinical setting before, and I had never been recommended a mouthguard to protect against further wear on my teeth until my visit here. There is obviously a strong attention to detail at this practice. I impulsively requested a Zoom Max cleaning, because why not, but was turned off by the price. Instead of trying to sell me a whitening I didn't really need, Nancy gave me logic and facts, and recommended a more cost-effective alternative that more than satisfied my needs. Never once was I pressured to buy something I didn't need, or pushed to schedule more then two cleanings in a year (not covered), as was the case at two other practices I'd been to before. This place has earned my trust and regular business, and I look forward to taking care of my dental health at this office. read more

They lost our entire family as clients due to the condescending and unprofessional behavior of their front desk receptionist, Nancy. After being gaslighted by her for no fault of mine, I checked Yelp and was amazed to find multiple other negative reviews about her. Last week, I called to cancel my appointment on the day of, as it was raining heavily and I wasn't comfortable driving. I spoke with Claudia (the other receptionist) and also asked her to cancel my appointment for the following day. She was completely understanding and said, "No problem at all. I'll go ahead and cancel both appointments, and you can call back to reschedule." However, when I called today to make a new appointment, I had the worst experience with Nancy. She spoke to me in an incredibly rude and condescending tone, claiming that the doctor was uncomfortable scheduling me again since I "didn't show up" and that there was usually a cancellation fee. When I explained that Claudia had assured me it was fine and never mentioned a cancellation fee, Nancy dismissed me and said Claudia "needs more training," essentially throwing her colleague under the bus. When I expressed discomfort with the way she was speaking to me, her response was, "I'll gladly deactivate your account!" How is this my fault when I followed proper procedure and canceled my appointments? If I had been informed of a cancellation fee, I would have gladly paid it or made the effort to attend. Nancy's attitude is not only rude but also dismissive of clients. She clearly doesn't care if they lose business--probably assuming "if not them, then someone else." With that mindset, I'm not sure how long this practice will last. read more

I used to go to the dentist at this office for over 10 years. After the previous dentist retired, this new dentist bought the practice. I had pleasant experience in the beginning with the front desk receptionist Fatima. She was very helpful with explaining procedures and costs. Since the new receptionist Nancy started working there, every interaction has been very unpleasant! She has a very bad attitude and very rude. She is also very condescending towards her patients. We have left the practice because of her! Stop asking your patients for 5 star reviews! You don't even deserve half of a star! Also the dentist recommended laser procedure for my gums which I found out I don't even need. Save yourself the trouble, don't go there! Let me start with how my last conversation ended with the office manager Nancy, " I am done talking to you, bye bye". Please save yourself the headache and avoid going to this place. The staff is horrible and all they are interested in is billing you for everything they can whether it was actually done or not. My mother who is in her 60's went for a cleaning and walked out with a bill of a few hundred dollars. When she called to inquire about all of the amounts billed she was basically brushed off and told to go to her insurance. Claudette ( office worker) stated, "well if your insurance is so good then why did t they pay?" The reason for the questions were due to things being billed that were not presented at the time of cleaning. If a conversation was had and things agreed upon then I understand we are due to pay but it's the snakiness nature of just surprising someone and saying it's to late and it's done so now pay for it. That's just not good business. My mother was left in tears as to how she was treated and it's not right. The bill is only one part but it's the treatment and lack of care from the staff that is the major issue and if Nancy who is the office manager has this type of attitude then it's no surprise Claudette and other have the same attitude. This office is newly owned by an amazing doctor.Dr. Khayyat is great his office is nice and clean, he is very professional, and his staff is well organized and ready every time I come in for my dental appointment. The staff is caring and gentle to all your needs. They have an in-house plan that gets me 2 cleaning a year, and a discount on my treatment for a small fee per year beats all those expensive monthly deductions from my check. So opposite, in fact, that I *strongly* doubt the authenticity of the reviews. Let me start by saying the dentist's wife (receptionist) is quite nice. Her husband, however, told me I needed several thousands of dollars of dental work. As I had been to the dentist faithfully 3 times a year for teeth cleaning & checkups as an adult, I was shocked. My dentist, who had just retired, never ad mentioned any problem. Based on this I got a second opinion. The other dentist (top rated in Vista, Dr. Coleman), told me there was NOTHING wrong and that I needed nothing. I typically don't post such negative reviews. Alright let's be totally honest, many of us feel some level of anxiety when going to the dentist. It's not our go-to fun spot, for many of us, it's not a chore we enjoy as adults. Long gone are the days when we would go to the dentist as kids, receive bubblegum flavored toothpaste and then round out the experience with a special treat from the treasure chest. You remember those? They had the best prizes- bouncy balls, slap bracelets, rulers, maybe a cool eraser...I swear the treasure chest at the dentist office had better prizes than Chuck-e-Cheese. As an adult, (and I can only speak for myself here) I find myself constantly rescheduling/canceling my appointments until my husband realizes what I'm doing...at which point he sneakily schedules my appointment on my behalf and tricks me into going. That's how I ended up here today and I gotta say, I had a wonderful experience! The staff were so warm and friendly (shout out to Fatima and Laura) and Dr. K was kind and understanding. I left my appointment feeling like I had been listened to and taken care of. This is truly a five star place, especially if you feel apprehensive when going to the dentist. In fact, I would go so far as to say I would give them a 6th star if they considered my new idea for a treasure chest for adults. Think about it, items catered towards things that adults love- like a travel pack of Tums, hand sanitizer, tooth shaped stress balls, rulers (we all need a travel ruler for those impromptu trips to homegoods where we measure the mirror covered lion statue that we swear will look good in our living room), maybe a slap bracket or two...but I digress. When someone buys a business and takes over their clients/customers/patients, they are expected to make good on any previous transactions done at that business. You don't only get the benefits of a business you buy, you get any problems that come with it. I know because I have bought and sold several businesses, and courts will always rule with the customer. Hence the saying, "you bought it". The Dr should have simply repaired the problem fillings done by his predecessor, which would have been rewarded by my staying with them for future dental work. Instead he denied he was responsible and tried to sell me much more expensive work. He cannot say it's not the same business as he has all of the med records, as well as the same address and phone number. Changing the name of a practice did not absolve the Doctor of responsibility for the practices previous work. I will explain in detail below. About a year ago my dentist of many years retired and I was referred to Dr Leads who filled two teeth and provided a cleaning ($800). During the cleaning, a small piece of one of the fillings came off. Eventually, after some months another piece came off and I noticed the other filling was also failing. I called to make an appointment with Dr Leads to repair his work, only to find he had retired and sold his practice. It seemed to me that since this new dentist had taken over the practice that he should make good on the work apparently botched by Dr Leads. And I did have another filling that was needed so I called. The receptionist seemed confident that there was something they could do. However, this new dentist said that since he didn't do it, they could not repair the previous work, and proceeded to recommend a huge amount of dental work, recommending implants for the two teeth with failing fillings and crowns on several old fillings. Nothing like what my previous dentist had said. I allowed him to fill the recently required filling which costs $230. This means that I had spent over $1000 for 3 fillings, two of which need replaced and a 20 min cleaning. And I still need to get the original two repaired!
