Just had my tires rotated and balanced. They said they torqued tuem to 130 foot lbs. When I got home, I double-checked them. The last time they performed this, some of the lugs were just hand tightened. When I checked today, they were not 130lbs again SAFETY CONCERN. Next, when I was checking the torque, I noticed one of the lugs did not match the others. It was a 13/16 and not a 7/8 like all of the other ones. Just great, it had I gotten a flat tire in my truck, I would not have the appropriate socket to get the tire off and put the spare on. I called the store and talked to Joe, he said that they replace the lugs when they are rusty. Not a single one of my lugs has rust on it. I don't know why they would've switched it out. I hope the thread patterns are the same and not cross threaded now. Joe told me to come back into the store and he'll get me the correct size lug. Unfortunately, I can't do it today because that would be another hour round-trip. Had I had a flat tire, I would not have been able to get that tire off because I did not have that socket in my truck. I would've been stuck calling a tow truck. Staff are friendly and they always get me in right away. They need to work on their attention to detail. Peoples lives are at stake. read more

I had to buy new tires while I was on vacation, long story. My spare donut was dry rotted. I had to buy one new tire just prior to leaving home. Asking for 3 new tires, I was advised to just buy 4 because the tire place had a special. They put the forth tire in my trunk, but it had no rim. When I returned home to Wilmington, I tried to locate a rim and was having difficulty. One day I noticed discount tire when on my way to Costco, I called them, they had the correct size rim in stock, for a great price and was able to work me in and I got it put on the tire the same day. So grateful for this place! First of all I knew I needed tires. Got up one morning for work to find I had a flat tire and Gheesh I was devastated. Called AAA they came plugged it and told me to get tires. I did just that when I got off from work. I came here to Discount Tires. They went over the tire selections for my vehicle and we discussed each one and the benefits of having particular tires. Afterwards, I made my choice and I waited for a bit due to the fact I didn't have an appointment. They have an app that will tell you where they are with your car and even let you know it's ready. I hug out in Olive Garden had a few drinks while waiting and before long I got a message they had completed. The prices are very reasonable and I'm pretty glad I came here. Plan on spending your whole day in the waiting room if you want to get new tires from this place. They even have a window to watch the technicians constantly taking breaks talking it up and doing their job at the slowest possible rate. Prices are ok. I wouldn't call them tires at a discount what so ever. But the reason I'm giving 2 stars in the wait time and customer service. All I needed was 2 new tires for my truck. Got there as a walk in at 2:30pm. Bought the new tires (2) for $400ish after tax. Was told 4ish would be completion time And then... 2 hours later it's now 4:45 and My truck is still sitting in the parking lot because of why?? Because you need to make an APPOINTMENT to cut the line. This is a tire shop not a restaurant, it takes 10-15 mins max to change two tires but no, instead they choose "company policy" over common sense. If you have a customer waiting in your lobby for 2+ hours (with a quick 15min tire change) don't you think you would just put that customer at the next bay instead of waiting for appointments to show up? I don't know maybe I'm just spoiled from my old tire shop where waiting more than 20 mins for a tire change would be a long time. But 2+ HOURS!?!? Outrageous & there goes my whole day just to get my rear tires changed! Wow just wow. And a customer in the waiting room with me had an appointment himself and has been waiting over an hour for 1 tire replacement. He said the same thing as me. NEVER using discount tires again. Very unhappy with my decision to use this company. I have been without my vehicle for 3 weeks do to there inexperience. Please understand no one at this location is a mechanic. It is a lot of young no experience employees that have less than a year at this location. I tried to save 200 dollars and after them blowing my PCM I have 2 tow bills and 3200 dollars of repairs. They pulled my truck in and then pushed it out of their bay. Green valley automotive contacted the 3rd party insurance company and told them that it was there fault with the proper diagnostic equipment and they said the vehicle has more than 200000 miles on it so we aren't going to cover it. Alex the manager at this location told me we arent mechanics. Well I am I have owned Salty Dog repairs here in town for 32 years. So you have two different mechanics telling you what has happened and you choose to go with it's over 200000 miles so we are not going to cover it. Karma is a real thing. I hope that what you have done to me and my wife and children comes back on you 10 fold!!!! i would be ashamed to be you Alex but I guess you don't care it doesn't effect you and you still get a paycheck. It's not very sexy, but occasionally you need to do something for your car. This prompted my decision to buy a set of tires. To this end, I got a quote for 4 at DiscountTires, and though it seemed reasonable, decided to get another quote at a tire store near me. SMH To my astonishment, the back tires appeared to be dry rotting - news to me. Never mentioned by the guys who detail my car. After lunch, I decided to return to Discount and start the process. Well, imagine my surprise when after checking, the young man asked me if there was any particular reason I wanted a full set. It seems the BACK ONES had enough tread for another few thousand miles. No mention of the dreaded dry rot. Since I only needed 2, I decided to have them replace my limping windshield wipers. I CAN SEE WHEN IT'S RAINING! GLORIOSKY! Can you say, "New car?" On my drive to coffee this morning I had a tire seperate from the wheel on my Porsche 911. My first call was to discount tire to make arrangements to have it towed in. The first person I spoke with asked how he can help me and I explained my situation. I went to discount tire because my father had recommended it because he is a frequent customer in Raleigh. I went because I had a pretty severe leak in my passenger wheel, I also had another tire with tread that was very low. I had called the day before to get a quote for a single tire. When I arrived the guy helping me was very pushy with selling me and up charging me on things. I am a young girl which I honestly don't know much about cars I felt like I was being taken advantage of with pushing expensive unnecessary things being added. I finally ended up buying two tires. When I went to pay I realized the price I was told before was 50 dollars more than what I had been told on the phone the day prior. After I asked about it come to find out it an extra charge to some tire subscription that I had never agreed to had been added to my final amout. Had I not called the day before or asked about it I would've never known that it was a surcharge. I asked about the time and I was told an hour wait time. I waited about two hours in the store and my car still had not been in the shop I decided that I would just go home and wait for them to call me. I went home and after two more hours I still hadn't gotten a call. I figured I would call and see what was going on. When I called I was told my car was done half an hour ago. I understand that estimated times are incorrect sometimes, but it very upsetting that I had to be the one to call to be aware my car was ready. Believe it or not it gets better. I wake up the next morning I have a flat tire now on my drivers side. I hadn't even drove 30 miles on the new tires. I take it back in and I'm told that I have a cracked rim and that I need a new rim. I feel extremely taken advantage of I bought a new tire for no reason because of the leak. I will say that they covered my labor costs for the installation of the rim but still unbelievable. I could've saved a couple hundred dollars going to actual mechanic and most likely saved time. Terrible service! Took my car to get new tires and I was charged $300 more than the price I was quoted over the phone. They said too bad. So, I was stuck. They are not convenient so at the price they charged me, I would have gone closer to home. Then, I scheduled an online appointment for the first rotation. The screen confirmed the appointment. When I got to the store, they said they had no record of any appointment so I could wait for four hours and they would try to work me in. The staff during these two visits have been very rude. Made an appointment a week ago for today at 10:30 and my wife arrived and was told THEY had the appointment in their system for yesterday. And now she'd have to wait until 1:00 to get 2 tires put on. At 1 the car wasn't even being worked on, didn't get done until 2:00. Asked for the new tires to be put on the front, nope they put them on the back. Called to the counter to check out, customer service rep walks away, different rep jumps on cash register and actually tells me to get out of the way for "his" customer. I've been a loyal Discount tire customer for more than 10 years using them when I lived in Raleigh and also in Jacksonville when I moved east. I was happy to see a store opening in Wilmington and when I need a new set of tires, gave them a call. They ordered a set of Pirellis for me. After checking back with them twice and waiting over a week, they finally told me the tires were discontinued and they could it get them. They then tried to sell me what I thought and based on the reviews were a less good set of tires for about the same cost. Honestly, this place is pretty terrible. After being in here for over an hour and seeing the percentage of customers who walk out unsatisfied compared to satisfied is pretty crazy. I was personally a little disappointed with my service for a few reasons; one of the main ones is the front desk personnel completely blew off a military discount that I guess is only offered online. When I came in for my appointment a few days later, I did see one front desk worker order a customer's tires online and give him the discount opposed to how I was served. So I guess good on that guy, bad on mine. At the end of the day, not a huge deal, only about $130 I would have saved. Another thing, I was told at the very latest my truck would be done at 3 pm, well that also didn't happen. I am now sitting here over 10 minutes past the drop dead time they gave me actually writing this. At the end of the day, wish I would have went somewhere else. Great customer service. I called ahead and spoke with Clayton first explaining how I found a screw in one of my tires and was expecting to purchase a whole new tire. Instead of selling me on something I may not need, he told me upfront that they would be happy to plug it for free if needed. I came in and then had Tyler help me out.
