Finding out how much costume places charge was like a smack in the face!…read more This was my first time renting a costume and for some reason I had no clue what to expect. The staff here helpful enough. They had a wide range of stock that we were welcomed to look through and there were also a few items that you could purchase. There is also a variety shop right next door where you can find cheap accessories for your outfit and the man who works there is super friendly and helpful. Overall, the costume we rented was a hit! Personally if you are looking for something specific I would recommend Jesters. However, if you are only dressing up for a theme like the 80's or 70's I would suggest any Vinnies or Salvos would probably get the job done just the same.

Halloween is one of my all time favorite holidays. I realize I'm "not in Kansas anymore," but…read moredespite this, come 31 Oct, I will most definitely be costume-clad. But, where do I begin? Sydney doesn't seem to have many costume shops in sight. Where can I source that ever-important witch wig or Frankenstein mask? Walking through Wynyard station today, I found my place. Overflowing with outrageous glasses, packaged costumes, separates and more, I would be SHOCKED if you couldn't find what you need in here. Going to a Hen's party? What about a theme party at a mate's house? There's more than enough in here. What if you've always yearned to be a zombie Michael Jackson with Elvis shoes, mouse ears and a Rainbow Bright wand? Not a problem. This party store will cover your dress-up bases, and oh so much more.

Pop in to Everything Party Shop before you jump on the train at Wynyard and get your party fix with the crazy and the colourful. Whether you're after a piñata, some party gags, paper lanterns, catering cups or serviettes, you'll find it all here. (You might have to shift through the piles of products to get to it, but trust me, it'll be here!) This shop seems to get a little overexcited when special holidays roll around, so at Halloween, Valentine's Day and Christmas things can get a little crazy. There's also a pretty good range of party costumes, so if you need a full-on outfit or just some novelty accessories, hop in, pop your party hat on and get festive.

If you're in the area, and want to waste some time and take some funny photo's, hop in there and try on heaps of things! Sure to make a day of it! I went to get a Mexican costume, and although I didn't buy/rent it, as it was a bit out of my price range, I was very impressed by the customer service. The ladies there were incredibly helpful when it came to picking something for a party, and weren't pushy at all when it came to the sale. The level of costume even included some rustic leather boots, which were amazing on their own, but unfortunately I couldn't commit myself to spent up to $80 for 1 night's rental. They seem to be very strict on the return conditions, and condition of the clothes, so have a chat, and don't rush the paperwork if you're unsure. It is about $15 per extra day you hire, so check when they're open, and ask if they have a pick up service in your area.

I mean, you'd be pretty disappointed if you got Prince Harry, because so many reasons. Or it could reference the fad of toad-licking, which was popular for a short period of time in an episode of Family Guy that starred way too much Meg. The effect of stepping into this emporium of wonder and delight is like a good toad lick such is the myriad and dizzying array of costumes the likes of which you can scarcely imagine exist. Gorilla suits with caged Kermit the frogs inside, latex Indiana Jones masks, Kronos from The Simpsons. They're super helpful and have just a metric @$$-ton of fun stuff, go and try. I got stuck in a sea monster costume here and had to be cut out of it. True story. But that led me to King Neptune, which I rocked at Yelp's 10th Birthday Maritime Mixer. I looked a little girly without the beard though.

No 3 days after ordering they SMS me at 3:45pm to tell me that half the items are out of stock (so much for their website's inventory system 'only 3 left' etc.) and they can replace with similar items but don't say what. I respond immediately saying replacements are fine but it's almost 4pm 3 days later, will the order get out today so that it will arrive on time (I think 5 business days is perfectly reasonable for an Express order when Amazon can deliver you a kidney in 16 hours if you pay $10 extra) to which they finally come back and say 'no our postage has already gone out today' and it won't arrive in time... no apology, no 'we should have been onto this sooner' 'we appreciate you as a customer' 'we could send X items today if you are ok waiting for the rest' none of that. Asked for an immediate refund notice (not the actual money just the notice) so that I can have the replacement items funded in the mean time and no response. Had to call (and pretty sure they declined) and was only when a different staff member had the phone and didn't recognise my number to ignore it then they answered. Again no apology or acknowledgement that this is pretty crumby business practise when it's supposed to be a recession and they all whinge that Australian businesses are being destroyed by big corporations. Well those corporations are held to the contractual arrangements they make, and wear the cost of fixing it when they screw up. not just leave people out of pocket and screwed over cause they stupid tried to buy local rather than just ordering all from Amazon and having it cheaper and actually show up. Never again, and will be telling all the events people I know who need to do up venues and rooms for parties to look elsewhere

It is huge. Aisles upon aisles of useless junk, stacked so high you need a ladder to retrieve it, bargain bins with cheap bric-a-brac, idle knick-knacks and useless odds and sods. Christmas comes but once a year, as does Halloween and if there's one place you can go to for all your obligatory decorations it's the Base Warehouse. Santa hats for $1 a pop! Better grab some of them. Scary masks, I'll take two! And ornaments, ornaments, ornaments. You can never have enough ornaments! I haven't been to many dress up parties and at first was bit daunted by the rows and rows of costumes hanging up. Rather than asking for help straight away I wondered up and down the isles. I spotted some black fairy wings, then a giant long tutu. I tried them on and liked my makeshift costume. I did ask for help in the end from the inspiration queens to make it a more complete outfit. They pointed showed me the vial (as potion holding) necklace, the lace cloves and the black pixie style hat. Nice - a co-created outfit. But if you can't be bothered thinking about it then it needn't be an hours and hours dress up affair. They have rows and rows of ready to wear outfits in all shapes and sizes. Snow white, furry bear, Victorian ball, vampire, Alice In Wonderland, American Indian, Arabian, Hook, drag, geisha, 40's style, mermaid, gangster, Moulin Rouge. They have loads of bits and bobs to make your outfit complete - some of which are for sale. Fake eyelashes, black angel wings, masks, scarfs, feather bowers, shoes. It was fun just trawling though place. Take mates - you'll be in histerics.

The large space houses hundreds of costumes and accessories from historical periods to modern day fairytales. Everything is dry cleaned after use and can be found in order. They have an inspiration board showcasing satisfied customers wearing their costumes. Costumes can be booked well in advance, but a deposit must be made in order for the costume to be held. While their costumes are in abundance, one drawback is the smell. The place smells very moldy. Perhaps this is difficult to avoid given the thousands of costumes tightly bunched together. When browsing and riffling through costumes, it can be a little difficult to pull out costumes. They are on metal coat hangers which makes them a little difficult to get out. On the upside, the store has a look book which customers can flick through if they are time poor. The costumes are very reasonably priced. While not all costumes are of the highest quality, there's plenty to do and see at The Wardrobe. Hopefully they will soon invest in a changing room. Currently you have to change in front of customers which is very off-putting. Otherwise, The Wardrobe is the best costume shop I have ever rented from!
