Discount Blinds (DB) was a pleasure to work with until a problem with one of the installed shutters arose. The shutter was very difficult to open and close (it required two hands and some shoving). On installation day we brought the problem to the attention of the installer and were told the window frame was not square and that was the source of the issue. Fast forward three weeks and DB were back to install the last 2 shutters in the garage. We told DB that we were not satisfied with the shutter in question, that it was too large for the window. We felt that correct measuring should ensure a shutter would open & close without jamming it into the frame. (We knew that was the problem because the room had 2 windows-DB had ordered the same size shutter for both windows even though the window with the problem shutter had slightly smaller dimensions.) DB insisted the window was not square, hence the problem. We asked DB to take the shutter out of the window because it was the wrong size. DB uninstalled the shutter, commented that with 16 years of experience they knew what they were doing. The installer then left, insisting they were the ones with the experience and the window was not square. Just left. DB never tried to back up their claims of the window not being square, did not remeasure the window or offer a solution. (We confirmed that the window casing was perfectly square after the installer removed the shutter.) We feel DB knew they had installed the incorrect size shutter but forced it to fit, which lead to the operational issues. We went to the DB office a few days later to get a status update. We were told that DB was not going to do anything about the last shutter, would give us a credit for the shutter and as far as they were concerned the matter was closed. DB walked away from their contractual obligation because DB didn't want to correct the problem DB created. Totally unprofessional. We would not recommend this installer. We would recommend to anyone considering shutters-from any company- that they watch the measuring of every single window being shuttered and question if or not any windows are out of square. read more

Recently hired Discount Blinds to install shades in our home. I was extremely disappointed. I had used Discount Blinds many years ago when Jack and Bobbi owned the company and had been so pleased I had recommended them to others. Decided to go with Discount Blinds again since they are local to Chesapeake. Big mistake! Matt had been to the house to measure and Mary Anne had been nice about coming out a couple of times to help with selection. Told them both I wanted to use the custom made curtain toppers I had over the shades and they still ordered ones with toppers which cost more and made the shades stick out further. About the only thing I like about the shades is the color blue of the ones in the kitchen and den. None of the shades fit well, some still don't go up and down properly and I have had to tape several of them to the walls. Ordered room darkening shades for the bedrooms to help me sleep. What a joke! There is so much light coming in that I have taped to the walls to help keep out all the light that comes in. Another issue with the bedroom shades is that they are just plain ugly. Might be okay for garage, but do not order for your home. Of course, Matt and Mary Anne think they turned out great. I am out thousands of dollars and cant wait until I can afford to tear them down and replace. read more

High quality, custom blinds at a reasonable price. They came out very quickly, had prices for me quickly and we closed the deal. I have a fair number of windows and I wanted a price for the whole house. When i asked about splitting the job up and doing certain rooms, they were more than accommodating to get the new figures with just the rooms I wanted to do at this time. It did take a little longer than I hoped for the blinds to actually come in, but when I told them my house was open they had temporary paper blinds for me that I could put up for no extra cost. Installation was professional and quick and I am thrilled with the way the blinds turned out. There was a confusion about the billing that I think was on my end. Either way, they never got pushy or nasty about the bill, just a courtesy reminder that it was still outstanding, so I stopped by the office and took care of the bill. I will definitely use them again when I'm ready to complete the house. read more

Poorly run company. No follow up. You have to keep on them to get anything done. Had a Hunter Douglas Blind motor go bad while under warranty and the owner acted like she didn't know what to do about it. After A MONTH of trying to work with them to get the blind repaired I called another company they took it the same day received a call from them that evening as to what to expect, how much it would cost, and how long it would take. AMAZING! No run around. I cannot recommend a business that has more excuses than answers. I did purchase a blind from them that did go well other than having to call after 6 weeks to find out that it was in (no call) and schedule an install appointment, which also went well. read more

We used this company 15 years ago when they were different owners. I've been trying this time for over a month of playing phone tag back and forth with the company, my final straw was when I talked to them last and was told they were going out to the model site and measure the windows and get back with me. Still haven't heard back so we're going with another company. This is a poor way to do business, the only reason I'm thinking they're still in business is because Great Bridge has a tendency to stick with companies wether the customer service is bad or not. It's a shame because we're the very first houses going into this new development in Moyock and we would have easily brought them in more business by letting our neighbors know as they moved in how great they did instead we're going to tell them to stay far away from this company read more

This represents an addendum to my earlier review of late July (below). Last month, we discovered that one of the Graber cordless blinds that Matt and Mary Anne had installed was defective, i.e., we could not raise the blinds once it was lowered. So Matt came by and tested EVERY ONE OF OUR BLINDS throughout the house to ensure it wasn't just the one we had called him and Mary Anne about -- and it turns-out that it was not one but SIX (6) of our blinds that didn't operate properly! (We have a number of windows where we keep the blinds lowered all the time, so we didn't realize that they, in fact, did not work.) So Matt REORDERED six new sets of blinds from the manufacturer (we found out that our issue was a recently-discovered manufacturing defect from Graber) -- and he stopped-by again today and replaced all of them at no charge. It's been our long experience as homeowners (this is the 5th house that my wife and I have owned over 37 years) that prompt, responsive, and all-around excellent customer service is oft-promised but not always delivered. So we again wish to give "two enthusiastic thumbs-up" to Matt and Mary Anne and Discount Blinds -- not only for a great-looking, quality product at an exceptional price, but also for standing behind both their product and their installation -- and being wonderful to work with as well! My company's blind strings came off of the hinge at the bottom of our floor to ceiling windows and it took Discount Blinds six months to come out. When they finally arrived to fix it, the man looked at the string and said that he didn't have the parts on him to fix it... It's been a month and they haven't fixed it yet. I don't understand why he would come out to fix a part that we told him that was broken, and not bring the part. Not only is the product faulty, but the customer service is terrible. This is a business and having broken pieces of our blinds at the front of our office looks very unprofessional. read more
