This particular shop is pretty big for a retail space in Europe and delightfully had a bench where I could park myself while he browsed. It is clean, well-organized and has lots of available record players for listening to albums. The staff was helpful and friendly. My only complaint was that the music in the store was SUPER loud and made it hard to talk. Shout out to Nigel, who was super friendly and helpful.

It's a super small place, but they have a good stock! Remember your gameboy? Old Nintendo? Still a fan? They have it there!! This is a second-hand store (buy & sell), but they don't only sell old games. They also sell consoles, computers, toys, music, porters and movies. You can also bring your old stuff to sell to them! I could get joysticks and games for it, and although they are expensive (the games, more than the console), they are in great condition, and they have popular and even rare games. The store is super packed with games (well stored), music lps, cds and dvds, consoles on display, and so much more... It's like you don't know where to focus your eyes! I highly recommend their service (I don't like buying these things online), because of their fair prices, the dedication to good quality and awesomeness, of course.

This one was high on his list. We wandered over to try to find it right at sunset, so we got the added benefit of seeing the Red Light District come alive for the evening. We were super confused upon arriving at the stated address because there was no record shop there - just a place called Red Light Radio Studio. He was terribly disappointed and said maybe they closed or something. Later in our visit, we were back over in the same area and I noted that there was an alley next to the radio station (the alley helpfully had "No sex" written across the top of it, lol). I wondered out loud if the record store was down the alley and indeed it was. He was delighted. The actual store is pretty tiny but has a really interesting and good selection. It's definitely worth checking out if you like to dig through bins. He bought a few things and was very pleased.

Fame Megastore caught my attention as it seemed to be the Dutch version of Best Buy but with vinyls and I was sort of right. Fame Megastore is in the basement level of the electronics market (I don't remember the official name), but it's across the street from the Sea Palace. The Megastore has DVDs, CDs, and vinyl records along with other random items like cups and t shirts as well. I was impressed with the selection of items. All the items were new, this was not going to be a rummage sale of any kind which I honestly did appreciate. I was able to score some deals there which I was happy about, but the customer service was kind of lacking. Two associates worked that area and neither spoke to me. They spoke to each other, but not me. When paying you take your items to the main level and check out there. You're not going to find any hidden gems there. You might if you're American, but I'm glad I stopped by to check it out. For sure there are other vinyl shops in Amsterdam with amazing selections to check out first.

I am a big fan of this store. I usually go to pick up a package, mail a package or go to the ATM…read more But they have books, magazines, cards, office supplies and games. It's a larger post office-type store (compared to others I have been to), it's bright with move to walk around. There are multiple registers and sometimes people form one line and sometime two...just depends on the day. The staff has always been friendly and now that I have encountered the same woman a few times, she recognizes me. She's happy to speak English to me, or Dutch if I prefer. Yes, some things are pricey, but it's not a discount store. It's just one of those neighborhood stores where people know people and they know how to be helpful. My advice for here is to always bring an ID (Dutch ID or a Passport) to pick up packages.
