Before my review of Redemption Hill's Uptown campus, let me share some background...
I first started attending back in 2009 when the church was called Whittier Hills Baptist Church and there was only one campus in Whittier Hills. This was the first church I had ever attended and I was loved so much by the church's college group. I made many friends, started to learn about the bible and Jesus, and came to faith and was baptized in 2010. As I transitioned out of college group into the adult community, I continued to find new friends who helped me to grow in my faith. A year and a half ago, I made my way to Redemption Hill's second campus in Uptown Whittier (third is in La Habra), and here is my review!
Redemption Hill Church in Uptown Whittier is located off Bright Ave and Bailey St, just west of Painter Ave. It is also just a block east of Greenleaf Ave, so it is conveniently located near a lot of the community in Uptown Whittier. The worship service goes from 10 AM to about 11:30 AM on Sunday mornings, with a children's ministry going on at the same time for children, ages ranging from nursery to elementary (5th grade). Junior High and High School ages are welcome in the worship service. There is a growing worship team led by Isaiah Barker. The main pastor is Joaquin Garcia, who has pastored at this campus since it started almost six years ago. He, the other overseers, and a couple others will be found preaching on a Sunday. A lot of people on a Sunday morning will hang out after service for about a half hour catching up and getting to know new people. There are multiple young families attending the Uptown campus with quite a few young adults as well. We love multigenerational groups so there are quite a few people older in age as well. The other main ministry outside a Sunday morning are life groups (~8-12 people meeting once a week) and everyone is encouraged to be a part of one. There are also bible studies during the week worth attending.
Redemption Hill in Uptown has been another great community of Christians where I have found so many new friends who have helped me grow in my faith. This year's focus for the campus is reaching one with the gospel and raising one to be a disciple of Christ. We hope to see you on a Sunday, and please feel free to send me a note if you have any questions! read more
