    Good luck getting in touch with the agent if you need to cancel your policy. American National…read morerequires the Agent to do cancelations, but the agent never gets back to you when you request it. Calling and getting through is nearly impossible. Because there was no way to cancel, I was double-paying for insurance, which is fine because I'll eventually get that money back, but the automatic payments that were tightly budgeted in to a separate account, that I require due to a managed but federal protected disability, ended up creating a cascading effect that resulted in a missed mortgage payment due to insufficient funds (not having the 'complete' amount in the account). Obviously this has now created even more issues because due to the disability I experience severe panic attacks at typically mundane things. However, having tried to cancel the policy for weeks, I did not anticipate it would have this affect. Sometimes customer service is vitally important for reasons that the agent would not normally consider. One should not have to fight for weeks to cancel, and it should be as simple as a phone call, email, or even the archaic fax machine.
