Would give zero stars if possible. I only had Direct Auto for 6 months after my policy with Esurance couldn't be renewed in CA. I see I'm not the only one whose policy was continually cancelled regardless of payment being on time and in full. My policy was due to renew on Friday and I woke up to an email saying my insurance had been cancelled due to non payment. I called and asked why and without my knowledge, my payment date had been changed. I took the opportunity to not reinstate and went elsewhere. What kind of company cancels policies like that and keeps a business afloat? If they are like that with me paying them on time, I don't want to find out how they would handle a claim. Got a letter AT MY RESIDENCE saying I had to PROVE RESIDENCE. Called and found out acceptable ways to do so. Turned in the document. Then received email April 29th 2025 saying that wasn't acceptable. I only carried the insurance through Direct Auto for 6 months. The company is very deceitful in their practices. I was charged $20.00 a month more than the price I was quoted. My payments were automatically deducted each month with no issues then they charged me $15.00 for a late fee due to their neglecting to withdraw the last payment and refused to reverse the fee even when I argued it was their fault and that I know for a fact they could reverse it. This insurance is a joke. I had them for years because I thought they were affordable but they are sketchy and not honest. Hadn't filed a claim in six years and my windshield has a crack due to a pebble that hit it from a dumpster vehicle in front of me. The crack was small but started to get larger. I called and was asked literally more questions than my bank or the damn IRS. Anyhow customer service/claims suck. The glass repair company informed me this was the worst insurance company. According to the Florida law the insurance has to cover up to two times a year. I have full coverage as my car is financed and pay a lot because I have three under 25 on my policy and I got a quote at Progressive for cheaper and all the insurance required. I will not be renewing with Direct Auto. My policy expires next week and I was going to renew like I have previously. Customer service is a joke here. I read some of these postings and feel badly for these people Hopefully they sue this company and/or report their issue with their state insurance commissioner. I consider myself lucky since I dropped them after 2 months and signed up with Progressive. I had been with e-surance which is owned by Allstate and they sent notification that they were not continuing policies in California and recommended Direct Auto (which is also owned by Allstate). I should have spent more time looking for other car insurers but enrolled with them for $2,400 for 6 months for my wife's Prius and my Infinity. We had been paying $1,800 with e-surance so I decided I would spend more time looking for better rates before the end of this policy. Then 2 months later they sent a bill for an additional $1,550 since we did not give them proof of our miles driven in the past year. This would mean that we would have to pay almost $4,000 for 6 months of coverage which is INSANE. How in the hell am I going to know the odometer readings from 1 year ago? I have never been asked to prove my mileage over the prior year by any other auto insurer before so I concluded that this was a scam. I signed up with Progressive and cancelled this policy after 2 months. We got better coverage with Progressive for 2 cars for $1.700. DIRECT AUTO IS A JOKE. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER AUTO INSURERS THAT WILL PROVIDE BETTER COVERAGE AT MUCH LOWER PRICES WITH BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. read more
