The shop failed the brake pads but changed their mind when I made them remove a wheel instead of looking through with a flashlight. State law requires that they remove a wheel To inspect the brakes. A friend who is a lifetime mechanic took a look at the engine and determined that the faulty repair caused the engine's destruction. They wouldn't work with me in taking responsibility, leaving me without a working vehicle and without the several hundred dollars I paid them. It seems that finding quality (no pun intended) repair work in this town is increasingly difficult, what with all the charlatans who have no idea what they're doing and seem to prey on unsuspecting customers.
