I hired this electrician to service my home twice. Given the extent of the issues I discovered after purchasing my home, I specifically made sure to hire a licensed electrician.
After the initial service, I asked whether his work was covered by a warranty, and he told me it was covered for one year. I initially had no issues with his service.
That changed when I brought an issue to his attention that he himself said could potentially create a fire hazard. Rather than addressing the concern promptly, he told me I would need to pay an additional travel fee because it was after hours and he was no longer in his work clothes. I understood that he had a schedule and declined the after-hours visit, then made an appointment for the following day.
When he came out the next day, I again asked about the warranty on his work, and he again stated that it was one year.
Within approximately two months, I experienced a relatively minor issue related to the prior service that had a reasonable fix. When I contacted him about it, however, he denied ever agreeing to a one-year warranty and would not honor what I had previously been told.
That was extremely disappointing. My concern is not simply the cost of addressing the issue; it is that I relied on his representation that his work was covered for one year, only to have that position change when I actually needed the warranty.
Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting the terms of any warranty in writing before allowing work to begin, including exactly what is covered and for how long. I would also recommend getting any additional fees and service terms in writing.
One additional note: much of our communication was through text, including messages that appeared to be generated or assisted by ChatGPT. Regardless of how the messages are produced, make sure the important terms of your agreement--including any warranty--are clearly documented in writing.
My experience was that the warranty I was verbally promised was not honored when I needed it. read more
