Fair Manager, But Corporate Pricing and Communication Were Disappointing…read more I brought my 2018 F-150 to this Firestone for a misfire and some basic maintenance. The technician and manager were polite, and the manager genuinely tried to help -- he removed the diagnostic fee and gave me another $50 off when I questioned the pricing. I don't blame him personally; he was working within the constraints of a corporate system. However, the overall experience made it clear that Firestone's corporate pricing and processes are simply not in line with what I consider reasonable. They charged $35 per spark plug for OEM plugs that typically cost around $10-15 each. The ignition coil was also significantly marked up compared to retail prices. Even after the manager applied discounts, the total was still over $600 for spark plugs, one coil, and an oil change. I also asked them to replace the coil boots while doing the spark plugs. They didn't do it and didn't let me know they weren't doing it. I only found out afterward. Not the end of the world, but it would have been nice to be notified, especially when the job requires taking everything apart anyway. The diagnostic process felt inconsistent as well -- at one point, I had to clarify the direction of the misfire diagnosis and ask them to test it under proper load conditions. While they did fix the misfire, the path to get there didn't inspire much confidence. Ultimately, while the manager was respectful and did what he could, the combination of inflated corporate pricing, incomplete communication, and the need for me to guide parts of the process makes it hard for me to recommend this location. I won't be returning, but I appreciate the manager's effort to help within the limits he had.

Got it back after a few short days and will be getting some further work done as time goes on. This truck had belonged to my former landlord whereupon his daughter sold it to me as the old boy had gone to a retirement facility. In his later years maintenance and repairs had been let go but being sturdy and strong running, I bought it and am slowly bringing it up to snuff and it is good in the event I should need to do any long distance traveling with it. . Attended the new shop opening, located just off I-25 and Colorado route 66, where I met Mr. Maggio's family and some of the other customers who call Hands On Autotech their home for vehicle repair and servicing. I first went there based on the recommendation of the Martino troubleshooter show on 630 KHOW AM radio; 10 AM - 2PM, M-F. My opinion is that Tom's shop takes something of a scientific approach to vehicle repair and will go more in depth with an analyses than another shop I had been to for an issue with my '99 Tahoe. As an EV owner himself I gather that Tom is up on the current tech, perhaps more than some other places who would have men of my age (68) from the "dinosaur era" of automotive tech working at their shops.

There was a problem with the communication surrounding the tow transfer so I started my experience with Hands on Auto Tech with some trepidation. Tom handled the situation and we moved onto the real problem with my truck. The diagnosis was the clutch so I approved the repair and waited a few days for the parts to arrive and the repair to proceed. After the clutch was replaced another problem with the operation of the clutch was discovered so I agreed to the additional repair and another day for repair. After a week I was reunited with my truck. The repair was costly, lengthy and unexpected but coming out the other side of this experience I learned a couple of lessons. 1. If you have your vehicle towed to a shop follow the tow truck to the shop and verify the transfer. 2. Communication and follow up throughout the repair are key Tom was great to deal with and I feel that he was honest with me about the repairs needed and the cost of those repairs. Having recently moved to the area I feel my vehicle maintenance and repair needs can be checked off the list. I can recommend Hands on Auto Tech to anyone needing an honest repair facility and Tom as a good guy to deal with.
