If you like fossils, gems, or sculptures, this is a must-visit in Santa Fe. This was one of the coolest stores I've ever been in, and the man working there was lovely. He told us all about working there and how he prospects most of the fossils and minerals himself. Very cool guy, and also super reasonable pricing for the artifacts and artwork being sold! If you simply enjoy viewing stones and fossils, this place is like a mini museum and also worth a visit. I spoke with the proprietor who is a wealth of knowledge and very helpful. I read some reviews about the owner being a bit rude... They were spot on and I should have taken heed. I did not just stumble upon this shop. I researched it, made a special stop, and planned to buy a few specimens. After the 3rd time the shop owner rolled his eyes at me while we were discussing meteorites, I walked right out. He is very self-important. The shop is also very hazardous with valuable specimens all over the floor. read more

This is an excellent rock and fossil shop. There are two proprietors, one a mineralogist and the other a fossil hunter. The shop is equally divided between rocks and fossils. There are also some miscellaneous artistic items, like framed butterflies and Indian chotchkies. The mineral specimens are of every variety, from loose garnets and quartz for a dollar up to labradorite monoliths costing thousands. I bought a very nice provenanced wulfenite specimen. The proprietor is heavy into meteorites and there are quite a lot of nice specimens, including an absolutely superb pallasite for $15,000 that has to be seen. The prices are very fair and not much more than you would pay on eBay. If you want rocks for rocks, this is the place to go in Santa Fe. The other shops in town (Mama's Minerals and the Mineral & Fossil Gallery) push overpiced "healing stones" and "artistic" minerals. The fossil collection in the shop is quite good also. Like the rock inventory, the products are aimed at serious collectors with a genuine interest, not casual flybys looking for their next lawn ornament. You can find a range of fossils from small fishes for a few dollars up to full skeletons that cost more than a Lexus. The proprietor has been dabbling in sculpture. Be sure to check out his "fossil chess set", it's pretty cool. Both proprietors are very knowledgeable and friendly, so if you are looking for experts who can answer technical questions or point you in the direction of good collecting locations this is the place to go. The other shops in town just have clerks whose knowledge is limited to understanding how to operate the cash register. If you want to talk to a savant who has spent so much time in the field that he has been struck by lightning multiple times, Dinosaurs and More is the place to go. read more

I had walked into this store and was immediately amazed by all the beautiful artifacts and stones. I asked the owner about how he got into this type of business and he told me this life changing event that happened him and how that lead to him opening his store (I will let him tell you the story). This place is awesome if you want to check out cool rocks, minerals, meteorites, and fossils! The rocks are set up alphabetical order an the fossils in chronological order in displays. I wouldn't recommend bringing small children you can't control in here as there are beautiful and extremely expensive rocks and fossils set out on the floor to view. The man who runs it is very cool- he chatted with us about how he got into this line of business and told us all about meteorite hunting, various rocks, and fossils. It was a very educational experience and it was cool to have the option to purchase something if we wanted, but there was 0 pressure. The man just wants to share his knowledge! While there are extremely expensive pieces in there, there are also rocks and fossils and jewelry that are $5-$50. read more

wow and educational! When I first walked in I was so overwhelmed by everything there was to see, that I stood unsure what direction to take. I was greeted by the shop owner and found him to be very knowledgeable and open to discussing everything I had questions about. The next thing you know, we are in a compelling discussion about life with a capital L and I didn't want it to end. It is rare to communicate about such things with someone who actually has a vast and deep knowledge of his topic. There were many people who came into the shop when I was there and I could see the look of excitement on faces when they saw the abundance of interesting fossils, meteorites and other cool 'stuff' he has available. Have no doubt, I will return next time I am in town and consider this a definite stop if you want to be engaged and educated by someone who really does know what he is talking about. I found this place by chance my first time visiting Santa Fe this past winter break. Charlie is very passionate about his trade and has a vast knowledge things extracted from the ground. Great selection of rocks, fossils, and minerals and a great educational display setup. Prices are a bit higher than some other rock and mineral places but you get what you pay for and I was very happy with my purchase. I was so happy with what I paid for that after returning home to Minnesota, I contacted him again to make an additional, "long distance" purchase.
