Two hot soups, two salads, one main entree, and three sweet offerings. Thought the options were solid. The consommé was delicious. Shared WiFi with the entire airport - no need password - aka very spotty at times. Also could get super hot and stuffy in there. Not bad of a lounge to grab a quick bite and rest for a sec.

Bottom Line: If you're in B/C or D gates, you'll have to exit a (the?) security zone to enter the…read morePlaza area to access this lounge. The Plaza area where this is (between B/C and D gates) seems to be airside, but when you leave it to go to any of the gates, you'll have to re-screen through security. It's a little weird, but maybe it's actually ground side? We were transiting the airport, so we didn't go outside of the Plaza area, so I don't actually know. As far as the lounge itself, I'd call it average. It was pretty quiet when we were there, but that's always dependent on the flight schedules. We caught the tail end of the breakfast spread, so it was basically breads, spreads, cheeses, and cold cuts. It looked like there might have been a small selection of hot snack for lunchtime, but we had to leave before they came out so YMMV. If you have to use the bathroom, use the ones next to the main food area, don't follow the signs behind the checkin desk, those were sub-par.

Since Austrian Airlines does not have a first class cabin from Vienna to Frankfurt, I thought we would have access to the Austrian Senator Lounge. Upon entering the HON Circle & Lufthansa First Class Lounge, there is a refrigerator full of drinks. Located in the corner, was a self-serve liquor section along with an espresso machine. Next to that was the food section, which included crudité, bread, and appetizers in single servings. There was a section of hot food, fruit and desserts as well. Catering is done by CO & DO. The food was good, but was probably untouched throughout most of the day, as it did not appear that many passengers passed through the lounge on a daily basis. On each table, there were also martini glasses full of almonds, and other snacks. The lounge itself is somewhat small, with several tables in the middle of the lounge. There was also a small, walled off section facing a TV, and two chairs along the far wall. We were the only people in the lounge for about 30 minutes, before several other passengers arrived. Unfortunately, the lounge was mostly unstaffed throughout the visit. One lounge attendant came in several times, but only to bring out new food. All in all, the HON Circle & Lufthansa First Class Lounge was very underwhelming based on this visit.

Arrival was a quick transition after landing to picking up our luggage since we were flying from another Schengen country. Departures was a little more work since LHR was non-Schengen and Austrian's website would not let us do online check-in. It was quite fortuitous that we spent the night before at the NH Collection Vienna hotel which was right next to the terminal. We were able to head over and talk to the Austrian Airlines desk and she was able to fix the hiccup in our reservation and got our boarding passes printed! She would've even allowed us to check our luggage if we didn't need it. We only tried one restaurant in VIE which was at Wolfgang Puck's (reviewed on Yelp separately). It was located outside of baggage claim, quite large and can't be missed if you want a meal/drink before or after your flight. As a Star Alliance Gold, I was able to get the fasttrak security but ended up falling in the regular line since my SO didn't get the same benefit with her Star Alliance Silver status. There were a lot of lines open that early AM but very chaotic since some passengers just couldn't follow instructions. Then they ran out of trays......so we had to wait.....and wait some more. Immigration was a lot better with faster processing compared to our earlier EU trip in January. Hopefully this meant the EES system was getting more of the bugs out. With our extra time on our hands, we arrived well before the Austrian Airlines lounge opened so sat out in front. We were one of the first ones inside and ate a decent hot breakfast before our flight. We stayed here until it was time to board so we did not get to see much else in the terminal. Besides the chaos at security, VIE was one of the better EU airports to transit through and find what we needed.

It is the hub for Austrian so if you're a fan you will love it here as many services are available to Austrian flyers. The processing for international connections could improve. I was on the Shengen side so I went through passport control right after landing, trekking through a maze of narrow hallways that felt like I was going to end up in an interrogation chamber. Sure enough, my security officer was as serious and microscopic with her questions :). Im good tho' mam, just passing through. Bye. At the boarding gates are two long rows of not so comfy chairs. So, SRO when boarding began. To kill time, I walk down a bit and come upon a comfy yet pyramid sofas where you can lie down for a bit, recharge you and your tech. I loved this part of the airport. Otherwise if youre passing through be aware the vibe can be claustrophobic during boarding: breathe, think kindness and love, your final destination awaits. Sure enough Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Split welcomed me with history, culture, food and Art, the likes of which I did not expect. Yelp is not in Croatia :(. I did enjoy the Austrian's business smallish lounge (also available to Star Alliance members) -- lots of Austrian pastries and savories served by a barely welcoming and staid support staff. End of Yelp
