But if you still want to, by all means read on. The physicians are concerned for you yet hurried and therefore get you in and out of the office in ten minutes. They strike an unusual and slightly unnerving balance between making you feel as if you're just another blip on the radar of the appointment day and as if you're a real person with potentially real medical problems. The front-office staff work efficiently. Since the office is in a primarily student-populated area, the waiting room is full of pamphlets that run the gamut from warnings against chlamydia (you whore) to instructions on how to cook healthily for yourself to stave off the obesity epidemic (booga booga). It's also full of students and the odd pensioner. Conveniently, the office runs walk-in clinics every day for those people who seem to be personally opposed to setting doctor's appointments. Although, if this applies to you, be prepared to wait for a long time. And then to use the toilet during your wait because of the four cups of coffee you had before arriving. And then promptly cut the flesh of your hand open and rip your fingernail off on the toilet lock because it's fidgety and gets stuck while you're trying to lock it whilst fidgeting yourself. And then need to book yourself in to go see the nurse on top of seeing the doctor to get your wound cleaned and bandaged. This is all hypothetical, of course. I can't say I've ever got a same-day appointment like another reviewer, but the option of going to the walk-in clinic is always there. The nurse also conducts walk-in clinic hours for the prescription of contraceptives and the performance of smear tests. But of course the one time I went specifically to get my cervix swabbed she was too busy and made me set an appointment for the following week. I'm not gonna lie; I was pretty pissed about that. Not only did I reserve time in my day to make a special trip to get my vagina probed, but I was turned away-- My vagina, rebuffed; its pride, wounded.

The receptionists are warm and friendly and somehow this is the only doctors I have ever been to where I have not had to wait past my appointment time magic.

They cannot do enough to help you and really work there hardest to accommodate you and see you if it's emergency. All of the doctors are approachable and can help you through a range of problems. The inside atmosphere of the practice is clean, hygienic and colourful just as a doctors surgery should be. Everything about the surgery is good in almost every way, the doctors, receptionists and the nurses are all inviting and are kind in everything they say and do. Addison Road Medical Practice is just around the corner from Walthamstow Village...it is quite a residential area, and there aren't many sign posts nearby, so take a map the first time you attempt to get there! I called ahead to find out the best time to come in and register. I had to fill in quite a few forms...and then needed to set an appointment with a nurse to finish the registration. The Brilliant bits: * I have never been kept waiting for a long time here. There is a sign in screen at the side of the reception. This morning I signed in, and was called to the doctor within 2 minutes...then I was out with a prescription within 10 minutes. * They always keep some appointments free each morning. If you call at 8:30, you can get one pretty easily. The downside of this is that you might need to wait for a non-urgent appointment. * The building seems new-ish and clean * The reception staff are friendly, although have little time to help as they are so busy. * It's NHS, so fixes you up for free (^^) The less-brilliant bits: * You aaaaalways need to hold as the phone line is always busy. * The place seems pretty big, and can be daunting the first time you go here. No-one bothers to instruct you how to get to rooms...so I just wandered around looking at signs until I spot the right consultation room. * There is a board that tells people the doctor is ready to see them...but no announcement. The first time I went there I was not told to sign in/watch the board, so I nearly missed my appointment. * I found my doctor quite unapproachable...He did give me antibiotics for my chesty cough, but his brisk manner made me unwilling to ask him other questions. *sigh*
