In this review I'd like to cover 3 things:…read more Where Dad was when he entered Lemay Where he is now Why you may not want believe me The Past Dad was admitted to McKee hospital in Loveland on the last day of June this year with a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia and a very angry gallbladder that needed removing. Three weeks later he was ready for discharge but he could not stand without a lift, attend to his own toilet or other needs nor move without significant assistance. He was sleeping almost continuously, and as we were to soon find out, was deeply depressed and was considering taking his own life, just short of his 89th birthday. He just didn't see a way through. Given his condition, his inability to care for himself and the fact that Mom is also in her upper 80s, Kaiser authorized 3 weeks at a skilled nursing facility, which was later extended. Lemay was on the list of approved facilities and had a bed, but more on that process later. The Present This past weekend, here in mid October, Mom, Dad, my sister Sharon and myself headed up to my parent's cabin in the mountains to enjoy the last of the season and I'm happy to report Dad is doing great. He still needs a walker to get around and we have caregivers coming in a few hours a day but Dad is getting his independence back, and is bright and hopeful for the future. On Saturday we were sitting around talking and Dad volunteered that he "100% credited Lemay" for his recovery. The hospital saved his life, he said, but Lemay, and particularly the PT team, (looking at you Anne), brought him back from the brink. Why You May Not Want to Believe Me This is, by all accounts, a great success story, so why shouldn't you believe me? After all, I've done my best to give as honest an account as I can and Dad is proof of it. Because my sister, "Lorraine G" (see below), gives a very different account and to this day asserts that Lemay is a terrible place full of terrible people. So who do you believe? Maybe neither of us. Sites like this are very useful, but have their limits. Maybe the reviewer is having a bad day. Maybe the reviewer happened across an outlier day one way or the other. Maybe the reviewer has a preconceived notion that all facilities like this are places where families put old folks to die. This is why Mom made her decision to place Dad in Lemay not on a Yelp or Google review but on ratings at Medicare.gov which provides verified information about inspections, staffing, substantiated complaints and investigations from the agency that regulates them. Lemay enjoys 5 out of 5 stars there. So by all means, read the reviews here, including Lorraine's, but I'd recommend taking anything here for what it is: an anecdotal account from a source that you have no way of verifying. This ain't a taco you're buying, after all.

If I could give this place "0" stars, I would…read more This facility is shockingly understaffed and I would NOT under ANY circumstances, recommend ANYBODY using this facility. I have a family member there and when visiting them after check-in, could NOT, get an orderly, nurse or any staff member to check on him! I was told 'we are too busy with other patients!" I am still in disbelief at the treatment he and I received.

From the outside, I wasn't expecting much from this facility, but it has something special that is not easy to find in the way of long term care. There is a heart here - you see/feel it in the residents and in the staff. The smaller size helps, but it is more than that. The organization promotes an environment of caring for and about one another. People actually smile here and they care. If you have an elderly parent or loved one who is in need of services, from Independent living to nursing home, I would recommend that you check out this facility. If you are in need of rehab, you would be lucky to be able to get into the 6 bed unit here. It is very quaint, warm and healing. Don't be like me and make assumptions based on the outside of this building. It's worth a walk on the inside!

My husband has been in numerous facilites in the last 10 months and we were blessed to get the opportunity to stay at The Suites Ft. Collins. This different concept in caring for those of us that are the aging Baby Boomers offered a sense of independence while staying in an upscale hotel instead of a depressed environment of a typical Skilled Nursing or Rehab. They are on the newer side, and there are always glitches and staffing issues to consider in newer facilities but the staff went out of their way to welcome us and try to help in anyway possible. Communication is always a key. The rehab center is the best I have ever seen in a facility, the food was good and my hubby put on lots of the weight he lost in the hospital, and the CNA's are caring and helpful. Just communicate your needs and concerns and they will go out of their way to try to help.

My Dad died at this facility. He had open heart surgery two weeks earlier in Denver and had…read morerecently been released from ICU. After a few days, he was discharged from the hospital and moved to the Suites Fort Collins for rehab. It is likely that he was discharged too earlier, but I don't think this was the right kind of facility for someone with heart disease like my Dad. Firstly, he needed to be monitored at all times and a lot of the time he was left unattended, like he was just on vacation. There is no permanent doctor at this facility, but my Dad was still in a very weakened state. The physical therapists and occupational therapist pushed him too hard and weren't listening to what he was saying. They were most concerned with the incision where the surgery took place, but didn't have much experience with a more complex elderly person with serious cardiological issues. On Friday, he was very frustrated that his concerns were being ignored and he complained that his condition had worsened since he left the hospital, where he had been making progress. He was already able to walk with a walker and assistance. The following day, we went to see him. When we arrived the staff was running around frantically. We approached my Dad's room and he was lying on the floor. Apparently, the staff had just discovered him. We heard them say, "Call 911," and they were trying to revive him, but it was too late. We don't even know how long he was there before they found him. Someone in my Dad's state needed to be monitored at all times. I blame the hospital partly for releasing him to soon and to the wrong type of facility, but the staff at The Suites, Fort Collins was simply too negligent and inexperienced.

He had been in his home for over 30 years and just couldn't wrap his head around the idea of moving. I called Rigden Farm and spoke to Kathy. She was extremely informative and answered all of my questions. She made me feel so comfortable about scheduling a tour. Kathy explained that she is off on Mondays and that Dad and I would be touring with Kirstyn. Dad and I arrived a little early and Kirstyn was just finishing with someone else. The receptionist was so friendly, showed us to the sitting room and offered a beverage. Kirstyn built a great rapport with Dad, she wasn't afraid to laugh and smile. The community is absolutely beautiful. The 2 bedroom apartment my Dad chose is large, bright, and more than enough space. Dad particularly liked the gym and the ability to walk down the hall for fitness classes. Everyone we've met along this journey has been fantastic. Angie took the time to answer all of Dads question during lease signing. She knew residents by name and shared many smiles. Since moving in Dad seems to be more himself.
