Potteryland - Butterfly

Listen... if you're trying to impress on a first date without doing the tired dinner-and-drinks…read moreroutine, this is the move. I booked Potteryland Studio for a 3:30 PM session, and while it was a little busy, it actually worked in our favor. The energy in the room helped ease those first-date nerves--because let's be honest, silence on a first date is not your friend. The selection of pottery pieces? Solid. Plenty of variety without being overwhelming. We landed on the 2-piece butterfly set (which felt very "cute but intentional"), and I added the balloon add-on to bring some extra life to the table. That little detail? Whew. It did exactly what it needed to do. She was impressed, and points were definitely earned. Once we chose our pieces, there was a bit of a wait before someone came over to walk us through the process. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. When he did come over (his name escaped me--I was focused on not fumbling the date), he was helpful and explained the painting process clearly, including the "3 coats for true color after firing" tip. From there, it was smooth sailing. We picked our colors, got to painting, and just... talked. And that's where this place shines. It creates space for real conversation without it feeling forced. You're doing something with your hands, you're laughing at each other's designs--it's low pressure but still intentional. The staff checked on us regularly, which I appreciated. My only critique? The cooler. I didn't even notice it until we were wrapping up, and I was definitely ready for some water by then. If that's for guests, just say that upfront. Don't have me discovering hydration like it's a hidden side quest. Overall? This was a great experience. Creative, interactive, and just the right amount of different. The date went well, the vibe was right, and honestly... I'd do it again.

She picked out two pieces to paint and said she had the best time. We felt totally welcome, the ambience was the perfect for our grandparent/granddaughter date. We brought a snack and a drink and she is looking forward to going back. I'm planning on taking my 6 yo granddaughter there tomorrow!

She loves school more than anything, to have your child beg to go to school, happy every morning is priceless. She grew to be a confident and kind girl and I am positive the school had an immense impact on this. I always felt heard, communication with leadership as well as teachers have been amazing. The performances always blow my mind and last years robotic show for first grade surpassed my expectations. Truly recommend.

Then, were so impressed with their handling of the pandemic in 2020 (we experienced no "covid learning loss"), it was an easy decision to stay on for the primary grades. And we have not been disappointed! We continue to have truly great teachers, that you can actually interact with every day at drop off and pickup and build relationships with them. I highly encourage anyone who is interested to schedule a tour or go to one of the open houses. Not only is it a charming environment, you will be amazed at how much more they manage to cover than just the basics. There is a focus on fine arts and performances, which are so great for confidence building. But they also get into robotics, go on cool field trips, and seem to have more fun events and activities than you might get in public school. The summer camp sessions are great, too! We'll be very sad to move on after 4th grade!

Classes are available for toddlers, children, and adults, and projects change regularly, ranging from crafts to sewing. Schedules change regularly so the website is the best way to find out what they're currently offering. I've been attending an evening adult calligraphy class here for a few weeks and have really enjoyed the process. The instructors are warm and friendly, coaching with clear directions to call out the artist in even extreme 'left-brainy folks' like me. The class is small, making for an intimate class setting where no one ever gets lost. All of the materials are provided, meaning all you have to do is show up with a sense of adventure and a creative spirit.

The nice thing is that they did actual real art not just some crafts that I could do at home with them. The instructors that they have are of course, great with kids. My boys came home every day from camp really excited to show me what they had done and even more excited to go back the next day. Just recently, we signed our 7 yo up for a 6 week (once per week) session. Once again, our experience has been great. We really like that they teach them are concepts. The first lesson they learned about perspective which is pretty cool considering the students and classes are only in first grade. If you're looking for a studio to take your kid who loves art and is ready to learn real art techniques this is the place to go.
