I have gone to this office for sometime and have always had a good experience. I had to bring a special-needs relative in for care and everyone was extremely kind and explained everything very well. Why do I even have to give 1 star. This is the worst GI I have ever dealt with. Besides the unprofessional attitudes of the office staff to the office manager they are terrible. The drs nurse is one of those who cannot have a conversation unless she is dominating it, is so brief and uncaring. Her reaction after I told her I cannot take the ppi's it makes me feel worse was of shock and disbelief. She stated that I have to take them. I replied I don't have to do anything that makes me feel terrible. To which she quickly left. Like seriously wtf do you think you are???? The dr was a nice young guy but not very helpful in suggestions anything other then the regular pills which did nothing but made me feel worse. Oh and try and get your results in a timely manner or an earlier appt to assess pain management is impossible. I have since found a great GI functional medicine dr who actually helped me heal my gastritis through herbs, supplements, diet changes I would never suggest this place to anyone suffering. They treat you like your issue is not important and like cattle. There is no care here. read more

Not only was it $372 for a consultation (with Dr.Umar) that consisted of me filing out paperwork to be told I need more tests. The billing lady, Lucy loves to be so damn rude! She literally talked over me and yelled at me because she thought I spelled my last name with a "V" when I said a "Z"...then when I explained why I was calling she wanted to keep on talking over me! I do not get it! I'd give them a 0 stars if I could on customer service. Dr Umar is great but it's been 10 years since I'd been to him and prices are out of control. There's zero regulations by the government on doctors & pharmaceuticals. So sad. Bottom line, I can't deal with rude & disrespectful people. You're only job is to be kind, and if you don't like your job, get a new one! Will need a new doc now, sadly. Not ever going to willingly deal with people like that read more

Unfortunately the other reviews that I have read here about the staff of this office is true. I have Crohn's disease and have been in and out of the hospital quite a bit with complications. While being a patient here, the office said they were going to drop me because my insurance changed. My insurance stated they would continue to pay to let me go here for continuity of care, however Management in the office wouldn't allow it and didn't care that my insurance agreed to pay for my visits, they refuse to let me go here anyway. Anytime I have been in the hospital and needed help, they're doctors that have privileges at the hospital that see patients admitted, refuse to see me, they continue to claim "it's a billing issue" even when I've been admitted at the hospital. this is untrue however, because they can see any patient they want in the hospital, whether they take insurance or not outside of the hospital for Continued Care is irrelevant when it comes to treating a patient inside a hospital and they've been admitted. It's become clear now that the office management is very rude and goes out of their way to blackball patients. My wife got a new job and insurance that their office took, she was going to be changing jobs and this insurance was lapsing at the end of the month, I had an appointment to see dr. Stein before the insurance defaulted out, and the manager took it upon herself to cancel my appointments and then call me and tell me she was canceling my appointment because my insurance is going to be no longer good after the end of the month. I told her that my insurance was good for the dates I had to see the doctor and I wanted to follow up with Doctor Stein, she didn't care and said she wouldn't let it happen and refused. I ran into Doctor Stein in the hospital when he walked by my room when I was there very ill, he himself told me he would be very much honored to take over my care, however his office staff has made it impossible to do any such thing. They have black balled me apparently as well as others here, and this continues to be an ongoing practice for this office. All I've ever done is been a patient asking for help who has been sick in the hospital and this office jerks people around and treats them like second-class citizens if they don't have first-rate surance that can be billed straight out. It's really unfortunate and sad to see an office getting in the way of doctor patient care simply because the office staff is lacking in professionalism and compassion. I picked this provider as they were close to my home. I have no problems with the doctors we have seen there, but you can NEVER get through at the office. Seriously, I have waited more than 15 minutes (my break time) on hold trying to get through to the office on multiple occasions. Then, when you do get through you need to speak with someone else (the MA, the procedure scheduler, etc), who is not available. I even just had a snotty response from the lady who answered the phone that "they have up to 48 hours to return a call". Really, I wish my job allowed that. Again, I have no complaints at this point with the care - other than they do not call you back with results - but the administrative side needs a lot of improvement. Also, the patient portal does not set up. I put in the info, input the code they gave me (and I checked it 4 times), and it will not activate. Not impressed - but I guess that is health care these days. read more

Dr. Stein SAVED MY LIFE!! I had a "routine" colonoscopy at the VA on 2-16-18. The next day I started to literally bleed out through my butt. :( Dr. Stein and his team built an Emergency OR in Baywood's ER and at 3 am Sunday morning ,went in and fixed what had gone terribly wrong.His office staff have truly tried to work with me to submit and have the VA pay his bill,and though It is still in process I feel that they have tried to accommodate my circumstance . read more

Website says they accept both of my insurances yet when I called Reina decided she needed to tell me they don't accept my secondary insurance nor will they even see me because I have it, even though they take my primary insurance. Ridiculous! Rude! She even called all there East valley locations to let them know not to schedule me if I called them. Never have I felt so frustrated with an office. read more

Very nice staff and super efficient, Went in to schedule a colonoscopy, they have to have you come in for a consultation first. The Nurse Practitioner was very helpful and they got me scheduled for the procedure next week before they get overrun with the Snowbirds! The only reason I removed one star is because they forgot about me in the last room for a while. read more

Had a referral to this office for a routine colonoscopy. I was screened via telephone initially and was offered a nurse-only visit. I was fine with that as I wasn't having any problems. The person screening did say I could have an appointment with the doctor first if I preferred, but this would save a copay and I didn't really feel I needed to see him, so I went the nurse route. She was very thorough and spent quit a bit of time reviewing the colonoscopy prep with me. The financial person also explained my benefits at length (anesthesiology is not contracted with BCBS, FYI). I was scheduled for my procedure 1 week later. Another nurse called several days prior to the procedure to go over the information again and ask if I had any questions. I was expected to arrive at 2pm for my procedure, which was scheduled at 3pm. I guess they were early and I was quick, because I was done with my procedure and in recovery by 245pm. I met both the doc and the nurse anesthetist prior to the procedure and both were very nice and appeared caring. The nurses were very thorough and pleasant. I especially liked the reindeer antlers one was wearing ;) Overall, a great experience. Will not hesitate to return there in the future for any problems or routine testing. read more

Do not go here and Please Please don't see Dr Ramsey Kumar. I went to him after another bad GI completely missed my appendix so after an ER trip in a great hospital in Fort Collins Colorado I had it taken out but developed problems after. I have MS and get terrible abdominal pain which I saw him for after losing 40lbs. Kumar said that he could do "NOTHING" or wouldn't do anything for me. Just what you want to hear when you have pain 24/7 I was shattered. I guess I'll drive to Colorado again they were so nice and smart. Dr. Stein seriously saved my life. I had a horrific experience at another GI doc down in Gilbert and that doctor had decided nothing was wrong with me because he could not find what was wrong. Dr. Stein was kind and patient and made time for me. Ultimately I had my gallbladder removed via emergency surgery but only after Dr. Stein had me tested revealing the presence of gallstones and then a HIDA scan to reveal my incredibly low functioning gallbladder. He is incredibly competent and such an amazing doctor. I am so glad he was there as he literally saved my life. He never made me feel stupid and was willing to keep running tests and trying things until he found what was wrong with me. Thank you for saving my life, I recommend this place to everyone I know looking for a GI doctor! read more

Had a great experience as a new patient exam with my son. Got in same day appointment! Prompt appt start time was appreciated and wasnt rushed threw anything. Office was clean and well kept. PA payed attention and showed caring and kind additude. MA's were helpful and everyone was professional. Good job, thank you. Dr. Stein is personable. But neither Dr. Stein nor his staff followed up with me. I went in with stomach pain and 103 temperature, etc. They seemed highly concerned and even thought of me going to the hospital. They had me go get a CT and blood work. Four days latter their office assistant calls and states all labs and CT came back normal. No further follow up or asking how I was doing. How can you be so concerned one day and were even thinking of sending me to the hospital and then the next day do not even call to see how I am doing. No explanation of what might be wrong or recommendation of the next steps to figure out what is happening. Just dropped me with no further help. read more

On Friday, May 17, 2019 I had a colonoscopy at Digestive Disease Consultants, performed by Dr. Collins and the staff, including a wonderful nurse anesthetist. I was informed of everything the procedure entailed from the outset of my visits, two in number, to the facility. I received patient's bill of rights information, talked with the nurse anesthetist and three separate nurses or nurse practitioners. Everyone I talked with was cordial, respectful, competent, pleasant, willing to go the extra mile to make sure I understood what was happening at all times. I could not be more pleased with the staff, with the nurses, with the doctor. A colonoscopy is not exactly a fun trip, but if I had to do it with any regularity I would have no hesitance to go back to these wonderful people. They are great! I have no reluctance at all to do a review, to rate them as an outstanding group. One could say well done, but that would not be EMPHATIC ENOUGH read more

This office is terrible with customer service from front desk to billing. I especially want to point out how poorly I was treated by Theresa (Dr Cho's billing office) she was extremely rude and argumentative instead of being helpful. She attempted to argue with me and did not seem to care that I was going to write a review on her. The issue was an insurance discrepancy of 60.00 that she sent me to collections over. Keep in mind they already have been paid but the 60.00 still showed outstanding. I told her I would verify through my insurance company. She instead took it upon herself to send me to collections then argue with me after I questioned why. My advice is to make sure you stay clear of this woman. She has a bad attitude and acts like she hates her job and takes it out on patients. My entire family has had procedures done there and when I told Theresa because of her attitude none of us will be returning. She could care less and said ok that's your decision and hung up on me. read more

Very disappointed with how my bill was handled. I was never told they would bill more than my coPay. When I saw the bill from them I realized I couldn't afford the procedure for sure. I'll stay sick til I turn 65 and hope Medicare is around to help people on a small income that need medical help. Guess they are turning the bill over to collection. I have, over the last 10 years, seen three doctors in this collective. I have found them to be universally unfeeling, cold, condescending and generally not desiring to work with you to find solutions to your digestive issues TEN YEARS AND THREE DOCTORS with this collective. A few months back, I was referred to Dr. Joseph David's office by a friend. His office told me that Dr. David would have to 'decide if he wanted to take me on as a patient' as I had seen a colleague of his. At our appointment - after he finally 'graced' me with his presence - , he spent WAY more time talking to me about why I wanted to change from another G.I. doc's office to his than he did assessing my symptoms. He was condescending when I asked him questions (like could I have SIBO like my sister was treated for) and told me I had should probably have a colonoscopy as my colonoscopy 3 years ago was murky. I agreed. I told him that the previous doctor had 'cleared' an EGD with my insurance company and it was not. actually - it cost me thousands out of pocket. I told him I could not afford that again and if his office used an anesthesiologist and Propofol they would not pay for it. He winked at me and told me they'd find a way. I told him if his office wouldn't be able to bend the rules, I'd have to do it elsewhere and follow up with him. Long story short - his billing office would not pay for it and so I had the colonoscopy with a colo-rectal surgeon and had the reports sent to Dr. David. Today I get a call from Dr. David's office that the doctor is now deciding if he 'wants' to continue seeing me because I had the colonoscopy done elsewhere. I'm SO sick of this office.... In 2005 - I had horrifying abdominal pains. I saw Dr. Stein. I had a colonsoccopy and did not even hear back from the office except to have them say, "Dr. Stein says to eat more fiber." I had my gallbladder out weeks later. In 2010, I was sent to Dr. Yalam for a pill endoscopy because I had had diarrhea for over a year - he suspected Crohn's. It was not and then he told me he didn't know what it was. I was soon tested for foods at my allergist's office and found my allergy to wheat was off the charts and following my elimination of wheat from my diet, the diarrhea cleared up. Who hires these doctors? I have never been so disgusted in my life. read more

If you don't mind or are used to being treated like you really don't matter or just another patient, this is certainly the place to go to. I don't know if she was just having a bad day, but the woman in scrubs at check in this afternoon 10/21/2014 was very smug and had a scowled look on her face. I was going to use Dr. Stein to perform a preventive screening colonoscopy and was told I would not be meeting him until right before the procedure. Seems to me that if you are going into the doctors office to set up the procedure and paying the specialist insurance copay you would at least meet the doctor before. I really felt like they cared less about me personally and also my business. Guess they have enough business looking at the parking lot and waiting room. I decided not to use them and opted to use someone a little more personable and caring. This place looks like it is run like a production line, herd em in and herd em out. read more
