    We went to the "An Sibin" (Gaelic for "illegal drinking place" and pronounced "an shebeen") for the…read morefirst time during the 2007 Rugby World Cup for the live TV coverage. In spite of enough fans and two screens it wasn't really a successful evening. It's not just the size of the place (one large room, not several smaller, more cozy areas as I've seen in other Irish pub/sports' bars), but mainly the fact that there was a live band at the other end of the room. For neither party - sports or music interested - was this arrangment in any way satisifying. The sound of the sports' commentator was drowned out by listlessly played life music. The Guinness draught was delicious (what else?!) but the burger was pretty tasteless accompanied by homemade, uneven chips. Well, we didn't go there for the food anyway, nevertheless...

I had a shameful record for going there every night for 3 months straight, and helped out at the door on busy weekends and stayed late after hours. I probably dont know any of the bartenders or cooks there anymore, but you still get 5 stars for letting me go there when all other US soldiers were banned due to fighting. Great bands, great drinks and great people. Thanks for the memories. BTW, I dont blame you for me meeting my ex wife there that fateful Wednesday night.
