Love this historic stone arch bridge…read more The Mainbrücke Marktheidenfeld is a historic stone arch bridge over the River Main. It first opened in 1846. It was the first stone bridge between Würzburg and Aschaffenburg. It replaced a ferry crossing. It is also known as Ludwigsbrücke since it was built as part of King Ludwig I's project to improve the roads linking Würzburg and Aschaffenburg. The bridge is an important part of Marktheidenfeld's history and identity. Its image appears in the town's coat of arms. It represents the the "lucky star" that its construction brought to the local community. A nice stop close to our river cruise.
