Dick's Sporting Goods used to be the go to spot for all your sporting good needs, especially shoes and Local Team Apparel (which is a lot of UCF and Orlando City Lions stuff). Lately, their prices have just seemed to be way higher than usual. Maybe it's a perception thing. You may find some OK deals in the clearance aisle that runs down the center of the store, but even some discounted items are OMG really? They do have a decent golf area (with the practice swing area closed) and a small bicycle area where they'll do a tune up if you purchase a bike (make sure you ask before just taking a bike to the checkout). They have lots of shoes, boots, hiking, camping, football, baseball, tennis, fitness, and other miscellaneous gear. This used to be a first stop for us, but lately we've been going to Academy Sports and having better luck and seeing better prices, so Dick's may be my Last Resort for my activity needs. read more

Four stars for the great selection, fifth star for the great customer service! I came here for a fishing license and a rod and reel set. I saw some on the website, but didn't know what would be a good choice. I got the license from the front of the store- a quick and painless process with a friendly cashier. I went to the fishing section and was helped by Johnny. I told him what kind of fishing I wanted to do, and he asked all the pertinent questions (type of water, type of fish, plants in the area). Then he brought me an affordable set that he highly recommended with the type of line and bait I'd need. He even had the reel strung up for me with the line he recommended. Meanwhile, my wife was taking advantage of a killer sale they were having on swimwear. Johnny's help paid off. I landed a big fish my first day out with this set. This will be my spot when I need fishing advice. read more

I found some Mens Brooks Glycerine running shoes online; but, I could not tell what size I needed from my old shoes. I ducked in one day to try on a pair; and, found that this location doesn't carry the Glycerine line. The salesperson was exceptionally helpful, offered to let me try on a similar pair to get the proper size. Then, at Dick'a Sporting Goods online store (they have the best prices), I found the line and style that I liked; and, ordered two pairs over the next two weeks... one all black... black sole, black body. This place is pretty rad! After leaving Sports Authority, because of lack of merchandise, since they are closing, we decided to come here to buy a bat. Yes, a bat! Don't worry, haven't gone crazy yet. The thing is Juan and I want to get an autograph from Carlos Correa who is scheduled to be here this weekend... So we decided to buy a bat and a couple of balls. Prices were fair! Normal wooden bat was around $20, and it was a "black metal" bat since it is black (lol, don't mind me, just being silly) and the balls where official Rawllings ball for about $4-5. So when I saw that they were building a Dick's on Alafaya, I said why, there is a Sports Authority right next door. Well a friend told me about a program that they offered in the store that finds the "perfect" sneaker for you. I came in around noon and the store was pretty quiet, but headed back to the sneaker department. I was asked if I needed help, and explained that i wanted to try this program. The salesman was more than happy to help. he asked me about my running style, etc, then had me stand on a gel filled square that measures the arch in your foot. the next step was to run on the treadmill for 2 minutes while he recorded my foot movement with his iPad. Pretty sweet. based on my arch and "over pronation" he recommended the type of shoe I should buy. he did not recommend brand, style, etc, Which was really nice. I already liked the Brooks brand, so went with a pair of the Adrenaline GTS 13. So far so good. i have taken 30 seconds off my each mile. The other good thing to note is that they do have a return policy within 30 days if the shoes do not look as if they have been to worn. #Yelp100 read more

I have had good experiences shopping at other locations and online. This location sucks. They only have 2 employees at the registers and no others in the store to help customers. I needed someone with a key to unlock their higher end fishing reels, Asked one of the employees at the register to call someone to help. Waited by the locked cabinet 5 min and left. On the way out a 3rd employee asked me if I needed help and then proceeded to explain that she didn't have a key and was not allowed to. Half of their items do not have prices either. Heading over to Academy Sports 1 mile away. Will continue to shop online at Dick's but will never come to this store again. read more

Was in the store last night, was gonna purchase a few items. I saw a girl maybe late 20's trying to return a pair of shoes she had bought the previous day that she tried to wear not long at all but they were so uncomfortable or didn't fit great when she tried to wear them. They refused to let her and I noticed at first the manager came to look at them shook his head and walked away and wasn't even gonna say anything to the girl. The girl working the counter was also very rude, she giggled at the girl returning the shoes and I felt bad for her. The manager came back over and refused to help. She may have gotten frustrated but she was nicer than I would have been for sure. Put my items down and won't be returning. The young workers seem to not even care about their jobs and all have sour faces and the manager... surprised that's the manager when he came up. Seemed like another employee just walking around the store without a care in the world. Will not be returning. I feel terrible for that girl, I'm glad she had some back up with a friend with her. We found good buys on Slazenger golf balls at Dick's Sporting Goods grand opening, as well as a golf range finder. They have a membership program that helps you earn money. We've been very happy with the Slazenger golf balls--they play really well. They have lots of other golf supplies. We also shopped here this past Christmas when we were looking for travel supplies--insect repellent, rain gear but they, like all the other sporting stores in town didn't have what we needed. They did have lots of sports clothing and I managed to find two swimsuits that I really liked. They have a good general selection of fishing, camping, and general use items. Both times we visited, the registers were well-staffed but one item I bought had a tag that they didn't know how to remove. After calling around, they eventually found a package in back without the tag so we were allowed to finish our buy. Some of the winter gear seemed more suited for the northern states, which can be handy for those just visiting or with relatives. This is one of those general purpose sporting good stores that you need to check and find who has the best quality at the best price. There parking lot is large and easy to park in. Came her just now to use gift card I had from Sports Authority, yes Dicks took over the company and they had told me couple months back that I can use the gift card at their store. When I reaches there one of the gentleman working said they don't take that gift card, then the lady working at the cashier at that moment said yes we can issue gift certificate if we know the balance. Great how would I know the balance? She said to call the number on the card, did that and it was a invalid number. Called dicks company they cannot use the number, so I asked the gentleman again what can I do and explained the situation, and informed him that person who gave me this gift card said it would be $25. He said I need a confirmation number to prove that. Ok so is there any other number I can call, he goes no... really so you want me to give you confirmation number but you don't know who I shall contact to get that number!! He goes we are just trying to help you by taking this card we are not supposed to(oh thank you so much) I asked if I can speak with the manager, he talks to her on the pager and told me that they will give me 20% off of first purchase. You can keep your 20% Just tell the customer you cannot take the gift card for sports authority .. it's OK!!.. rather then wasting their time on finding freaking confirmation number. You know, you see a big place like Dicks open near waterford lakes and you think finally some big box place to shop that is near home. I really like Bass pro shop, and Gander Mountain. Anyway finally had a chance to go to Dicks, what a disappointment, first it looks bigger on the outside then inside, they sell a lot of clothes. Almost reminds me of Sports Authority in size, even though the building would suggest otherwise. So I go there to check out some pistol BB guns and other BB gun supplies. They had only two guns to choose from. They didnt have a good selection of CO2 cartridges, and other supplies, like ammo cartridges, scopes etc... I had also been to Walmart, and they had about 8 guns to choose from, had the accessories I wanted and prices were lower. Even Gander Mountain had a good selection, and a lot of accessories. I can not recommend Dicks, its still not as close to home as I would like, and was a wasted trip. I am sticking with Walmart, Gander Mountain, and Base Pro read more

Buyer beware - there is a 60 day expiration date on merchandise returns even with receipts and products never being worn or used . Its nice to see a competitor to SA in the area...but its pretty much the same stuff. they do have a better selection of left hand golf equipment than most places (its a curse sometimes). they have a massive golf shoe selection as well as a big golf section in general. Its also really cool that you can get an analysis on your feet and running style to help you choose the right shoe. Their baseball/softball section is puny; especially their slow pitch softball equipment. This is a bad idea given the location. Overall I do like the layout of the store and the staff is friendly. read more

I stopped by this location today to buy a kayak that I had been thinking about for a while. They had a nice selection, and I was able to get about $50 taken off the total cost as one of the bungie hooks was broken. As it was nothing major and I can fix this for super cheap, it didn't bother me. So why might you ask did I only give them three stars? Customer service. The young man who helped me reminded me of my brother. He was cocky and stuck up, and when I would ask questions he would respond in a way to make it seem as though I was stupid. This doesn't bother me personally, but when spending $300+ I would expect a little bit more. And no help would be given to me getting it to my vehicle. All in all, the service was subpar, and I would most likely only return to this location for something small or out of convenience. read more

Was in there last night and the "manager" was the most rude women EVER! Started off with there was 50% off of men's bathing suits and rash guards. We were purchasing one of each from the racks that had the signs. Upon checking out she tells us that these are not on the sale, when there were many of the same that we were purchasing on those racks. She was extremely rude when we explained it and was not even going to go and check, just told us it wasn't going to happen. So we decided not to purchase them. We paid for the rest and she gave us the receipt and my husband said thank you and she said nothing. My husband said most people say your welcome. She responded with a if you don't like it then don't shop here! She must clearly be the reason why the store is usually empty! read more

They said they were busy ringing up customers. I went there to buy a golf club by trading in my new hardly used driver, since i knew they had a much advertised trade in policy. The employee tried in vain to get the trade in value but the software wouldn't load, which happens often I was told. If Dick's advertises it, they should improve the process or have a backup plan. I really like the fact Dick's offers higher level versions of products. Soccer cleats have multiple levels which offer more features and design at each level. So it's nice to be able to find the higher level offerings. read more

The tennis rackets for sale were all for mass sales. There were no top grade rackets. There was no section for tennis shoes and a very limited choice was spread out. They only offer BMX and mountain bikes. They do not have a single road bike. The offer an adequate choice of freeze dried food entrees, but only one freeze dried dessert. read more

I have never had a positive interaction w the young man and this is disappointing considering all of the others in the store that have been awesome.
